If then will it support more memory? 24 or32?Agreed. I don't need all the pomp and circumstance. Just let me order the M2 Mini. They can could have easily done the same with this year's iPhone refresh.
I agree, very unlikely to see speed bumps on 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pro‘s. Since there’s kind of no such thing anymore as a megahertz bump, I think an M2 chip is more than a speed bump and way quicker than Apple has updated in recent years.I don’t buy this, especially since the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips will be completely new. However, I agree with Mark that it would be weird to have an event full of products whose only difference is a spec bump.
That is why I believe Apple will preview the Mac Pro at this event, even if it’s not ready for launch until 2023. It will mean they could meet their Intel transition deadline of “about two years” from 2020, and would make the teasing of the Mac Pro earlier this year make sense.
An M2 Mini should offer the same max RAM as an M2 Air—24 GB—unless higher-density modules become available. If then will it support more memory? 24 or32?
Agree. Apple would still have an event. The M2 Pro and M2 Max will deserve their own presentation by Srouji. And the main focus will be the Mac Pro, with the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro being the fillers at the beginning.I don’t buy this, especially since the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips will be completely new. Yeah the next 12.9 iPad seems to be an “S” upgrade with M2, Mac-like MagSafe charging, plus camera and battery improvement. Hopefully the 11” moves from liquid retina to full XDR display.I really want to upgrade my 2018 12.9” iPad Pro. the M1 out now is plenty, but was hoping to hold out for a decent hardware redesign.
we’ll see.
Even when it is an overhaul year.. no one needs to update if they have last years model.Keep your older models everyone. Lol. This is just a minor spec bump.
14/16 MBP users, don’t do it. Your laptop is still powerful.
Agreed. And it seems to me that any variant of M2 as we now know it is just not enough. After all this time the new MP news to be special. My guess is that it must involve a chip on the new 3nm process.Looks like we won't see a Mac Pro until next year if we're lucky.
They'll be sticking the very best M2 chip in that thing and so far we've only seen M2. Need to wait for the M2 Max/Ultra or even the "M2 Super Duper Ultra Max Pro" or perhaps they are holding off for M3 Max/Ultra.
Those kind of chips aren't something they're going to announce in a press release. They'll make a song and dance about it.
You ask "why have they taken so long to update the Mac Mini, especially the higher-end Intel one?" Well, Apple gave us a spectacular new product called the Studio which redefines the desktop product placement hierarchy. The Mini now even more clearly is defined as entry level. It will be interesting to see how the various desktop products rearrange. Do not look for an upgraded all-powerful Mini that would step on the Studio's new space.I don't care much about the MBP upgrade and I certainly won't be selling my M1 Max MBP for M2 (a.k.a. M1.5), that said, why have they taken so long to update the Mac Mini, especially the higher-end Intel one? Mac Mini needs that M2 Pro (maybe the Pro/Max versions weren't ready until now and they wanted to wait to update all Mac Mini models?)
Disappointing no rumors for the 24" iMac. I guess they're skipping M2 with that and will update it with M3 in the spring.
Hard for you to believe, I’m sure, but not everything is about you. No one is asking you to watch an over the top produced and edited video. Maybe Apple should be more like you. They should just be satisfied with mediocracy, and doing things half a$$. And instead of telling us something like we think you’ll love it, they could say this is a piece of sh|t, buy it if you want to, bugger off if you don’t. What exactly are you expecting out of them?no problemo.
just let me know when i can buy an M2 Mac Mini. don't need a fancy over the top produced and edited video with "we think you'll love it 🙏" every 2 seconds.
No way. Mini is the bottom of the desktop line, and we now have (superb) Studios available.M2 Mini supporting 4 monitors please!

Imo the remaining Intel Mac mini is just basically there for specific developers and certain enterprise markets that still need Intel based model. It's really not intended for general purchase as the price point is certainly unattractive for the typical consumer. But if the Studio is the replacement for the high-end Intel Mac Mini, why are they still selling it? They discontinued the 27” iMac the moment the Studio came out, so it’s clear that the Studio is a replacement for the 27” iMac, but the Intel Mac Mini remains available. Which makes me think it hasn’t really been replaced yet.
Yeah if there is an event in October I expect it will be before the launch of the iPhone 14 Plus as they will likely drop that in the keynote… so I expect an online only event on either 4th or 5th October.I'm guessing that if Apple doesn't send out invites by next Tuesday, then we can expect a press release. I have been hesitant on the new M2 MBPs, since the regular M2s have been somewhat disappointing in performance from the older M1s.

The Studio is not the replacement for the Mini but the Studio does redefine the lineup of headless desktop products. Apple was wise not to release an M2 Mini until after the more pricey Studio had its initial run at sales. But if the Studio is the replacement for the high-end Intel Mac Mini, why are they still selling it?
