Wait, what?

“It’s obviously not going to be as sharp as a 5K or even my 6K Pro Display XDR… it’s just not as sharp as some of those other higher end monitors.”
  • 4480x2520 @23.5” = 218ppi
  • 5120x2880 @27” = 218ppi
  • 6016x3384 @31.6” = 218ppi
All three have the same pixel density of 218ppi, so is there something else about the iMac that makes it look blurrier than the 5K iMac or the XDR Display?

I think it's too bad it doesn't look like the render MacRumors has been using for iMac related articles up until its reveal.
That rendering is just an iPad on a stick and doesn't look great.

Not upgradable in anyway shape or form no way to recover from the hard drive failure no way to self repair basically threw a unit.
This is why I will grab a 2019 iMac 5K or two at some point: totally upgradeable.

this soldered thing: iMac in iPhone form

No, there isn't.

Maybe the author means brightness — the Pro Display XDR has a lot more nits.

But in terms of sharpness, Apple tries to hit consistent pixel densities for their Retina (1x, 2x, 3x) approach, within similar device sizes — a MacBook Pro has a slightly 221ppi, and LCD iPhones have 326ppi, because you're more likely to hold smaller devices more closely.

Looks GREAT from behind.... I guess that's why all marketing and other images use that as the hero shot. Shame they couldn't continue the bold colours on the rest of the body and accessories instead of the pastel shade. :/

Raw pics taken on my phone 12 pro look better on my new iMac than my iPad Pro or iPhone pro.

the screen is really nice. But I’d expect the pro $6000 monitor has some advantage

Returning mine. Why? Because I absolutely hate the white bezel! It’s so distracting. And it looks busy. I will get the next model which will hopefully go back to the black bezel frame. For now going with the mini/external monitor combo. PS. I also don’t like the squarish form factor of the 24”.

Received my green iMac today. I don't understand all the complaints about the bezel and chin. It looks great. The chin is a great place to put sticky notes.

I upgraded from a Late 2015 iMac and recently started editing video. This new iMac is blazing fast with Final Cut!!

I'm in love. All you haters don't hate!
Chin is fine, it’s the white bezel that is the step back in design. So hard not to be distracted by it!

I don't ike the pastels either. Home Depot sells spray paints in a wide range of colors. Inexpensive too.

maybe you can hide that brick in a drywall, somehow, unless it won’t set the whole house on fire...
And there is still the problem that it doesn’t run Win 10 natively... it just can do less than it’s predecessor, and the old I Mac was a wonderful machine with its glorious aluminum unibody and black bezel... this pastel nightmare is the former CFOs personal taste... and it is tasteless

I really love the colours, thats one wish I didn't imagine Apple would even think about bringing back. I really like that the colour covers everything including accessories even the OS, didn't imagine Apple would put in this much effort. I don't have a use for an iMac but I wish I did so I can buy one. These would be great in schools and small businesses.

Its confusing why they have different colour tones, why is the bezel white not same colour? Why the chin shade is different from the back? Why not all white front? They chose the most confusing choice for colour choice.
