are you serious? it's a multi-million dollar fulfillment system, one small mod they made to mask how many they have sold would not have thrown it into a tizzy.

It didn't throw it into a tizzy, it's still working as designed, processing orders by order number. Except that this time around, order numbers are random and not sequential.

I cannot find another explanation why a person who ordered model A at 1 am is still waiting while someone who ordered the exact same model 45 minutes later is already tracking its delivery.

Do I think that this is correct? Maybe. It's a theory that someone else threw out there earlier today and it's starting to grow on me.

After calling 5 times, mine finally changed to prepared for shipment (I doubt those two events are related)

My guess is that after so many people just got fed up with it, like myself, they just changed all of them to prepared for shipment. That still doesn't change the fact that people like me who ordered earlier are not getting theirs, while others with the same exact ones are already enjoying theirs at home... Thanks Apple...

You are not the only one stuck in "NYS" land. I ordered a 32 GB white 3G @ 1:03 Pacific and nothing has changed yet. I did, however, receive my Smart Cover today. Just like a year ago with the 1st IPad.

I called Apple after reading all of the posts about getting the cost of covers refunded and asked for the same thing. The 1st guy would not admit to knowing anything about it but for some reason the call was disconnected after sitting on hold for a few minutes. I called back and got a different guy who did did agree to refund my leather cover "no problem". He said I was the 5th person who has called asking for the same thing in the last hour.

Now .... Back to refreshing my order page .....

Finally after waiting it seems like forever, just checked my status and it says prepared for shipment now. So with any luck it'll be shipped out tomorrow and get it probably Monday or Tuesday.

halfway there...

I placed 2 identical orders 1 at 1:40 am PDT, the 2nd at 2:36 am PDT (64 GB White Wi Fi iPad 2s and 2 navy leather covers). The first order has flipped to Prepared For Shipment while the other remains NYS. Both smart covers were shipped Saturday (actually picked up Monday) and now one has cleared customs in Alaska while the other is stuck in Anchorage. I fully expect it to arrive a day after the other smart cover. The shipping system (which actually is FedEx and not Apple) is convoluted and weird but at least it's showing movement. Finally!!

Both iPad 2s are now prepared for shipment, based on business days they're both going out either today or tomorrow which would make their delivery on Tuesday or Wednesday. smart covers are in Newark.
Looks like they are working on 64 GB white's now.
