Is this out yet? Or can the beta be downloaded from MS's site or only from torrent sites? Sorry I don't want to read all posts so I post this
Only from 3rd party sites. And I wouldn't so much call it a beta, as a quasi-unusable internal build. Very glitchy and not worth using. Is this out yet? Or can the beta be downloaded from MS's site or only from torrent sites? Sorry I don't want to read all posts so I post this![]()
Nadyne, really, is it so hard to release some 7.x update to enable offline messaging? (Almost) Every single MSN-compatible IM client out there has it. Yes, I'm currently using Adium but I really like MSN For Mac's design.
BTW:Will v 8 include that feature? Or shall I just stop dreaming?
The only feature that we've announced for v8 is AV support. I can't talk about anything beyond that just now. Sorry.

Nadyne.
I know it requires lots of work, but consider that it's not a really new feature , it has been available since when, 2005 (on Windows)?Updating the app requires a lot of work: testing it fully, getting it out to the servers, etc. The more often that we do that, the more time that it takes away from working on the features that are important to get out. Every release that we send out the door without AV results in more and louder complaints that it's not there yet.

It's nowhere near unusable. Somewhat annoying at times, but definitely fine for everyday use. I don't plan on going back to 7, and I've been using 8 since it first leaked.
Ack, I don't know. I tried it twice. I left it on, as per usual on my iMac at home for a couple of weeks, and nearly every day by the time I got home it would have hung, or all my contacts would be displayed as offline. Then tried it on my MacBook and couldn't even get it to work at all..
I advise staying away from aMSN as it has probably the UGLIEST UI in the world, even with the skins, there are still problems.
Also it's extremely laggy and chokes up quite a bit.
I agree version 7 isn't perfect either. I've had the all contacts displaying as offline error as well occasionally, and while it's never hung or crashed, I do get it log off on me randomly sometimes.Strange, I've only had minor errors. For example, file transfers don't work, and neither do display pictures. And the occasional crash, but to be honest, 7 crashed occasionally for me too.
I'm looking forward to the next version as much as anyone, but I really don't understand the lack of updates. Last thing on the blog is we'll get a beta "sometime" this year. To narrow that down to a a quarter would be nice, and maybe let us know what else we're getting. Would be a bit shocking if all we were getting is AV support.
lets consider what we already know, they've built AV support into the business version of 7, they can do it, they've done it. So that's a no brainer, we already know that the only thing holding them back is WLM and waiting for them to make the shift to the new codecs that Mac Messenger AV uses.
So, not much development work really?
I just hope the long wait doesn't mean you're simply waiting for the green light and actually are building some much needed features such as Offline Messaging support!
I guess we all want the Offline msgs support, but unfortunately, according to Nadyne it isn't planned for the next update...
I bought my first Mac ever this May, the transition from PC to Mac has been very smooth. I've been able to find most alternatives for software that I love on Windows. However, what's been bothering me is that there's no offline messaging and AV support. Issue regarding offline messaging can easily be overcome by using Adium instead of official Windows Messenger for Mac, but I have yet to find any program that can do voice chat. I moved overseas since few years ago, and I have been using MSN to chat with my family. Ever since I start using Mac, I'd have to boot up my PC laptop and use Windows Live Messenger every time we want to talk even though my iMac ( current primary computer ) is well capable for doing such things. It's really unnecessarily troubling at times especially when I am studying with textbooks and notes all over my already small desk. I am really looking forward to the Windows Messenger for Mac 8, hope it will be the ultimate solution for everything I need on MSN. Keep us updated please, Nadyne. Thanks.
this is a piece of junk, i tried this a long time back when it was initially leaked and i found amessenger and mercurymessenger way better! this is full of bugs!
Just for the sake of clarity: I haven't said that offline messages will or will not be in Messenger v8. At this time, I can't say one way or another. Please don't take a lack of information from me as confirmation in any direction, because it's not.![]()

I joined Macrumors just to post on this thread. I cannot believe that video/chat support has not been added to msn for mac. This is ridiculous!
blame M$! its all their fault. it will come in the new MSN.I joined Macrumors just to post on this thread. I cannot believe that video/chat support has not been added to msn for mac. This is ridiculous!
Agreed, thus I just use Skype.

Hate to shock this thread back into life but where the heck is our 64bit, A/V, nudge and offline messaging supporting Messenger v8. Its getting a bit long in the tooth.
