Space Grey Sport Black Sport Band here and only damage/wear is on the sports band itself (where the strap sits inside the loop). The material has gone 'shiny' where the bands make contact. But you can't see it when wearing the watch so I'm not fussed. I do sometimes wish I hadn't been tight and bought a SS version instead.

SGS42 here. At first I was amazed how tough the Apple Watch was. Then I managed to accidentally scrape the body of the watch against some rough concrete, and it scratched pretty badly (not complaining - that's very hard to protect against). I actually cashed in one of my Apple Care repairs to get a new watch. So far the new watch is holding up great. I'm pretty sure the only way to damage this thing is to scrape it up against something really unforgiving.

3 weeks I work indoors no reason for this
Not a clumsy person

Laughed and cried a bit today. Ironically my magsafe charger from my MBP swang in my hand and took a chunk out of the aluminum on my Sport :-(

First scuff today. Was being clumsy opening my door with my hands full as well and scuffed it against the brick on my place.

It's actually not that bad and it feels good to get that first nick. Not that I babied it too much but the first is the worst. I have AppleCare but I'm not using it for that obviously.

I have a crapton of scratches on the case of my SS. Will buff them out once they start annoying me. Of course no scratches on the screen itself.

Got my first scuff on my Sport screen the other day. :(

Whacked it against the rail of clothing hangers in a store while trying on a stupid jacket. It's only a small mark on the rounded part of the glass, but I'm absurdly gutted about it.

I've given it far harder knocks and had no trouble before this, but only while wearing long sleeves. I had a short sleeved shirt on that day, and obviously the glass banging the metal without a cloth barrier between caused a scratch/scuff that wouldn't have happened with a shirt or sweater to protect it.

Summer is a health hazard for your Watches! Everyone beware! ;)

It doesn't look too bad. Sorry to hear it happened, glad the watch still looks sharp especially from above!

It is a balance on how bad the SS scratches will bother people and how often they will need to buff them out. The aluminum sport won't get the micro scratches but then it can get the permanent nicks like in the quote above. Not a clear answer on what's best.

Sorry to hear this. I think the sport is a terrific value, but I do worry about the screens where scratches will obscure or distract from the content. One scratch like yours is obviously no issue, but if someone less careful got say a 1/2 dozen scratches, would it start to lessen the experience?

It would have hurt the Apple Watch sales, but a sport with sapphire screen, despite a slight weight increase, would not have been a bad product, in my opinion. I can take a $150-$200 fashion watch getting a scratched glass, but it's a bit more difficult to chew on a smart watch where the screen is the window to so much content beyond the time.

I was pretty upset about it, although annoyed more with myself than Apple, really. I do wish the Sports had a more durable screen, but my problem could easily have been annoyed if I'd been more careful.

I would be happier with a slightly heavier Sport for v2 if it came with a more solid screen-- in fact, I think the combination of the brushed aluminum and the tough sapphire would be a winning combination for a lot of people. Personally, I don't mind scratches on the watch body, but I know others feel differently. Either way, like you say: the screen on a smartwatch is a different story entirely. Nobody wants scratches there.

If we see the same division between the Sport and regular Watch for version 2, I would consider stepping up to the mid-level version then. I opted for the Sport because I was unsure if the Watch would be something I would use much, but considering I have worn it daily since April 24, if I'm still wearing it by the time the next gen comes out, I suspect it'll justify the higher price for me.

I am astonished at the durability of my SS. I have always worn watches but I have bashed my SS several times on banisters and doors and I haven't got a single mark. That Sapphire screen is something else. Even the case doesn't seem to have any micro scratches even when I look at it in bright sunlight. I am very careful when taking it off and putting it on as I have the Milanese loop which some people say can scratch the case if you pull the band upwards to tighten it

A lotte ding from last night on my apple watch ( very sad news since I'm very careful usually)

How is your Watch holding up?

(Please format your answers, If answered "Yes" please note the severity.
Scratches on the screen? None
Scratches on the case? None
What model do you have? 42 MM Silver SS
Damages to the band? None
What band do you have? Black sport band
What is you typical day like? Worn from 8am to 11pm. Office work and daily stuff around the house and out and about.
Was any of your damaged caused by something not typical of your day? N/A
and finally,
Approximately how many days have has your Watch been following you around on your wrist? 20 days

After returning my Space Grey Sport which seemed to be falling to bits, this SS model is in mint condition. I've banged it lightly a few times and there is zero marks or scratches anywhere. Very happy with it.

My SS is showing wear, there are a few scratches on it, and one particularly deep one from where I threw it into my bag and had it roll around with the rest of the crap I keep on there.

Screen still looks perfect though.

My Sport band which I picked up separately (mine came with the CB) looks and feels like crap though. I'm exaggerating slightly, but it's disappointing to see how it's peeling/getting marked up. Can't believe Apple actually ship this band with some Edition models.

Almost 5 weeks on my wrist: still perfect. I have got a 42 mm Stainless Steel Apple Watch with black sport band. I wear it all day, every day.

After wearing my silver sport watch every day for over 3 months now it still looks like new. Not a single scratch. Very pleased!

I use the Monoy thin case thing at work and it's protected my watch pretty well so far. I am disappointed with these little notches I see between the screen and the body. It's certainly noticeable on the SG Watch. However, I try not to let it bother me. Also have a dent on my crown.

The spots between screen and body I have seen on a couple brand new watches from factory too even on SS models. The case might allow some debris to get in there and trap it causing some of them too.

Overall, watch still looks sweet!

Same here, though not quite a crapton - yet. The sapphire is amazing, isn't it?

Mine already has a giant scratch going down the center of the screen. no clue how it happened. Many more smaller scratches towards the top. The buckle on the bottom of the sport is peeling and reveals the natural silver below it. There is also a tiny tiny chip in the grey on the case and it shows the silver below it making it more noticeable. Wish I didn't get the space grey sport....

Four and a half weeks in, and I have some scratches on my SGS42 case. I think they came from brushing up against a wall with the side of my body, and/or from brushing my arm against a door frame. (I'm 6'2" and am broad shouldered, so if I'm in a rush or am in a congested place, contact with the side of my body is perhaps more likely to happen than with others.)

It's crazy, three months later, my watch still looks new. I'm a clumsy person and I've banged it against doors, counters, etc.

It's a Sport model too. Guess I'm just lucky. :oops:o_O
