Will you be switching to Verizon

LMAO @this ridiculous thread...Verizon just spit in Apple's face with a full page ad in the NY Times taking the iPhone 4 reception issue to task and some of you actually think the same device will show up on Big Red's network in a few months? LMAO!!! ...I used to think 2012, now I think Verizon will NEVER get iPhone

I live in the sticks, which means my options for phone companies are limited. I would probably get the same, if not worse, signal with Verizon. So, no, I won't bother switching.

Actually, that's usually where Verizon shines. They have more coverage in the sticks than AT&T.

It's foolish to think that marketing campaigns would stop a potentially multi-billion dollar deal. Steve still has a board to report to.

Well this is pretty interesting now T-Mobile's HSPA + is projected to hit 42 Mbps next year and grant those aren't real world speeds. Real world speeds will still put it in competition with LTE speeds.

I do not love AT&T, but I need a phone that I can use overseas including Japan. Unless Apple makes one version of hardware that supports both GSM and CDMA, I'm stuck with AT&T.

KDDI uses CDMA, but unfortunately it's on 850MHz.

Disregarding all posts about "it's just a rumor" and "prices are the same".

I'll stick with AT&T anyways, they have excellent service where I am and it would be a downgrade to switch to any other carrier.

Since Verizon will not have the iPhone in January why would people leave?

Is Droid XXV Remarkable coming out then?

It's great the Verizon has made it easy to switch phones... but what phone are you going to switch to exactly? Another carrier-locked Verizon phone? As far as I know you still can't (easily) activate a Sprint CDMA phone on Verizon's CDMA network.

There are a ton of GSM handsets that didn't get picked up by AT&T and/or Tmobile that are sold overseas and are readily available via Ebay. I just bought a Nexus One from Google, popped in my SIM and voila!, I'm on the network with a Froyo OTA update directly from Google, tethering active and AT&T none the wiser.

Major doubts about a VZW iPhone in Jan, in fact I'd bet it won't happen.

But, assuming it does the "depends on price" response is pointless. VZW and ATT mimic each other like chips looking in the mirror. They will be the same price for same features. It will be 100% whether you want CDMA/VZW or GSM/ATT.

How are you spending $500 for 4 phones?

I have 3 iphones and 1 other phone and spend just over 300 with everything unlimited....

How do you think Verizon will be cheaper? 4 droid incredibles with unlimited data and text is 419.93 without tax.

That's true and then AT&T may have a 6 month exclusive on the new iPhone models first giving it to verizon 6 months later.

So for example in Jan if VZW gets the iPhone it will be the iPhone 4.
June comes AT&T Get's iPhone 5 and then VZW will get it 6 months later.

True, this has always pissed me off about Verizon and Sprint.

Hahahaha...keep telling yourself that.

True about the pricing. However, I think it will be mroe whether you want a carrier that works well in your area or one that doesn't. For some people Verizon works better in their area. And for others AT&T. And for some...neither work well and they have to go with smaller regional carriers.

True, but sadly, I've tried (by using friends' phones) all of the big names: Verizon, Sprint, TMobile, & AT&T. AT&T is the only one that gives me signal within a mile of my house. And I don't want some local brand, like Ntelos.

I knew what I was getting into but

Discount for being a nice guy? Your name is Steve to? Because your a loyal customer and have 4 iphones on one account? I just like to hear peoples reasoning behind why they think they're being cheated out of something.

With the new tethering charge and drop in data available I feel AT&T is pushing the limits of what we should be willing to except.

Yes I knew ATT was the only carrier to have the iPhone but that doesn't mean I should smile while they piss down my back and tell me it's raining, love that line from Josie Wales.

If there was competition I could and we all would see better plans for the iPhone.

I shell out a lot of money so I think I have paid for the right to complain.

Yes I could find another phone and provider but why should I.

The squeaky wheel gets te oil!

No options really fit me. I won't switch probably, but I don't love AT&T. I just don't hate them enough to move to Verizon. I have been pleased enough with their service so why switch?

Ok, did some more research re: LTE's backward compatibility. It seems to mostly refer to the ability to hand-off to other networks. Originally the focus was on hand-offs to existing GSM standards. But apparently when Verizon started leaning toward adopting LTE, they worked to get CDMA included as well. I've also read that WiMax compatability may also be there.

So not backwards compatible in the way I think most people would think of it. But there it is.
Ya it's the cell phone thats bc not the technology.

No I wont.

1. I'll be 5 months into a contract and refuse to pay $300 for an ETF.
2. I specifically left VZW a few years ago because they cripple their phones. I have no doubt they will do the same to the iPhone
3. I have no complains with AT&T. VZW is not any cheaper.

bingo

a bazillion percent correct esp on #2

vzw gets too many props but imo their dastardly deathgrip on so many past phones i owned makes me shiver at the thought of them with the ip4

I will switch if it's true to Verizon because where I live, AT&T is on Edge network, but Verizon's is 3G. Also verizon has a better signal in my state than AT&T. I know because I've had both.

Verizon also gives me a 20% discount and AT&T is only 15%. The problem is AT&T is giving me the runaround on getting it, Verizon didn't.

Looks as if the people who really have an iPhone sort of likes AT&T. . .

Furthermore I'm not switching AT&T is fine. Verizon won't get the iPhone within the next couple of years. . .I see an exclusive with Sprint and T-Mobile before Verizon.

C'mon man, you were right the first time! :^)

Like the title says, you were right the first time - there's NO backwards compatibility with LTE. None.

Handoffs/handdowns/handups between technologies? Sure. But that's not backwards compatibility. It takes a dual or even triple-mode handset with multiple bands to get that.

LTE will run in it's own bands with it's own gear with it's own air interface (OFDM) which is all different from CDMA1X (CDMA), EVDO and GSM (TDMA) and UMTS (WCDMA).

Yeah, I'm sure the linked propaganda tried to imply otherwise, but it's just that - propaganda.

True backwards compatibility would mean that existing handsets could use the LTE network, and that's just not the case.

I will say good on you for checking though - you just happened to be right the first time!

Why not move now?? Verizon has great coverage, service and terrific phones.

There's nothing for you here. Don't let the door hit you in the arse....

Love to lose the Verizon trolls. :(

I challenge you to name me one smartphone in the current Verizon lineup that is in anyway crippled beyond technological limitations. Anyone of them will do.
