So I decided I’m taking back the iPhone 8 that I purchased this week. I would really like the battery life that the X offers. But I’m also not buying the iPhone X just yet... I want to wait another week or two and see if any big problems pop up.

The one thing I want to see is if these X phones develop this "OLED screen burn" issue. I had no idea about this potential widespread problem on OLED screens. No idea, it may happen on the phone in a month...6 months, I don't know. Time will tell.

it does look significantly better if your settings are set to the same thing. Its not close. My friend has an 8+ phone and we compared the two. It takes much less in the way of brightness for the X to match up with the 8+.
I've looked at it side by side with my 8 Plus and I did not think it looked significantly better, or better at all. I was expecting to be wowed and definitely wasn't.

I compared with my 7 Plus as well. Both max brightness and head on. They looked exactly the same to me. No difference.

Thats weird because when we compared we thought hmmm not any difference. Then we checked settings mine was set to 20% and his was set to 60%. We maxed both out and it wasnt close at all. Ill see him again today and I try it again to make sure.

It's just not possible that it's that much brighter. Apple quotes the same max brightness for X as they do for the 8 Plus. I was hoping a lot from the X display but now that I looked at it I found it underwhelming. The Note 8 and S8 on the other hand just sucked me into the content with their displays. I didn't get that WOW effect with the iPhone X

The phone you carry is absolutely a status symbol and a clue to the people around you about who “you” are the same as the clothes you wear, car you drive, etc. Intentional or not people are always making immediate impressions of the people and things around them (it’s an inherited survival trait). Whether or not you care what your phone is saying about you is totally up to you and most people, to use your example, would never be vain enough to TALK about their phone as a status symbol.

Bottom line, whether you care or not, it’s a status symbol.

You've got one of those cases with the hole in it so you can see the Apple logo through it, haven't you.....

Also I think the curved display ads something to visuals for the Galaxy S8+ IMO. TrueTone not sure how much of a fan I am of it now realizing that it makes the whites more “natural”.

I hate TrueTone on my iPad Pro 12.9 and no doubt I will hate it on the iPhone X as well.Makes everything look piss yellow and colors looks all weird. For $1200 this phone is not worth it. It's not just about money. It's actually on preorder for me with full payment upfront2. I was excited before looking at it today. It needs a bigger screen and a ProMotion display.

OP should feel more happy for the non-8/8 Plus and non-X owners. We are super content with our phones and we got more money to party on, dudes! 😉

I originally planned on buying an 8 and let the X users beta test the phone but that was more trying to convincing myself that I didn't want the X. I just played with one in stores and it is unequivocally the best iPhone Apple has ever made. The feel is extremely premium and the screen is so good that it looks fake, as if the icons are stickers on the screen.

Then I planned on buying a used 7 to hold me over for the XS but the iPhone X doesn't feel like a beta product, it feels like a flagship product.

And i feel bad for you that you had to pay at least €1000 to be a beta user.

Im actually glad it doesnt have a larger display. I think you should cancel and wait for a larger display IMO. Its basically the same usable display area as the 8+ and for some people wider is better. The reason I went from a 6+ to a 7 is because the + models arent pocketable. They still arent. You cant easily fit the plus in your pocket especially if you like to wear clothes that fit.

With that said I think the next iteration will have most of the kinks worked out. Im an early adopter and I can live with the minor issues this phone has. Nothing for me was a dealbreaker in terms of my grumps about this device. Overall though its definitely the only iPhone I loved.

Thats the same thing. Youre bitter and dont want to let people be happy. Let people have their moment and be happy.
I don’t think her comment was to prevent people being happy. I’ve read so many condescending moronic comments on here in the last 48 hours where a handful of X owners are projecting themselves and their device as superior. Look at this thread for instance. I still don’t know if people are actually being serious?

This was to be expected though. Apple has fragmented their user base into those with super premium phones and those with mid range phones. I have no doubt there are tons buying this device for the status symbol. I was excited by it but looking at the device at the store, I feel like cancelling my pre order. The oled display is not as good as the one on the S8

7 Plus and X owner. I don't know about this X. The screen is definetly smaller, is narrower. My old eyes miss the display zoom that increases app sizes. Also battery has dropped 10% in 2 hrs of moderate use my plus battery hardly moved. I do notice Siri is faster and sounds little better, more base. If the X and the 8 plus have the same tech internals I feel I may be returning for the 8 plus. Dunno on the fence but the smaller screen is really a turn off for me. I know next year will be a X plus. The face ID seems to work good as advertised and also during dark conditions.

Literally every phone platform has people who do that. Its not exclusive to iPhone X users. Doesnt mean we have to pile on.

The battery life is more than a non plus and less than a plus but its indexing so itll be a few days before battery life normalizes. Im curious about the display zoom issues.

Restore is going on in the background. You can’t really judge battery until that’s done. Takes a little bit to complete if the phone is usable.

My big gripe about the S8 OLED is that at first its attractive for me because of the high saturation levels but for long term use it gets annoying to me. Even app icons like youtube are so saturated that it almost has a neon look. I do feel like S8 showcases OLED better. The curved display and the Android OS showcases this better IMO.

There has always been people using different tiered iPhones or older models and I haven’t witnessed this level of snobbery before? Christ, an iPhone is an iPhone to most people. Does anybody ever ask you what model yours is? Nobody has ever taken enough of an interest in mine, possibly because it’s such a popular brand.

The fact some people are starting to look down their noses at anybody who has the current iPhone 8 or older is a sad state of affairs for those doing the judging I would say. Get a life would be my response.

You can set the display mode on the S8 to Basic and the screen won’t look saturated any more. I played with the Note 8 today after looking at the iPhone X and even on Basic the screen still popped in a way that the X screen didn’t.

Samsung have not given their best panel to Apple. The display on the Note 8 is just unmatched and is available at just $800. It makes me question why I paid $1200 for a phone which is not only smaller but doesn’t have that screen.

Facts are facts.

In my journey of selling my iPhone Xs (yes I’m scalping) I can tell you that something like 50% of the people enquirying are asking whether I would accept a trade in of their 8.

I’m sure there’s plenty of happy iPhone 8 owners, but I’m also sure there’s plenty of people who are desperate to change.
