I feel bad for the 8 and 8 Plus owners

You can set the display mode on the S8 to Basic and the screen won’t look saturated any more. I played with the Note 8 today after looking at the iPhone X and even on Basic the screen still popped in a way that the X screen didn’t.

Samsung have not given their best panel to Apple. The display on the Note 8 is just unmatched and is available at just $800. It makes me question why I paid $1200 for a phone which is not only smaller but doesn’t have that screen.

In NYC it costs 929 bucks minimum. I looked at getting a Note 8 before getting an X. This is Apples first forray into OLED so for me it needed to be better than the IPhone 8. It passes that test for me. However, I feel that iOS doesnt take advantage of OLED in the same way Android does IMO. I believe the kins will be worked out in future releases.

I’ve got an 8, came from a 6S - by your logic, I’ve been a ‘second-class citizen’ for the last year.

You could argue that 1st generation Apple products aren’t any good, but I have heard nothing negative about the X. Most owners around here that are reviewing it are saying the best iPhone ever and that it’s pretty much perfect.

I think most people are aware the 8 and the X are essentially the same product minus a few tweaks. Not everybody is thrilled with either though, but I’m really made up that some are.

Yeah for some people to jump on board with the X it will take more refinements. TBQH, not everyone needs to be upgrading every year anyway. I think the next few Xs will have leaps to them from an AI/ML standpoint and from a hardware standpoint. I feel like the 8/8+ models are baked. TBQH, the 6, 7, 8 were not the best upgrades IMO. Apple could've gotten off with just introducing an X and an XL. I think that would've made more sense. It would've satiated more people initially. However, maybe they have a plan two or three years into the future that we don't know about. I'm starting to think that because there are so many users they have to be mindful of can we scale this to 100 million+ phones which means every innovation they have doesn't make it into release right away like phones that sell less.

Restore is going on in the background. You can’t really judge battery until that’s done. Takes a little bit to complete if the phone is usable.

Yeah thats what I figured. I am going to wait week and see if gets better who knows. Big turn off is I always use WAZE app. On the X is so much smaller screen than 7 plus.

+1 and version 2 will be better as it was with touch id.

The one problem I had with touch id is the skin on my hands dries out in the dry winter months and it often wouldn't work for me for the last six weeks of winter. I couldn't make a new winter fingerprint. I had to wait until spring and then it would work perfectly.

I think the X Plus would have been the best product. 8 Plus users are dissatisfied with the older design but have to get it for the larger screen. Some X users are getting it for the new design but are compromising on screen real estate. I dont think many are happy with the current lineup imo.

Oh there will be for sure an XL version of the iPhone X next year. Price might be pretty steep, but I think it will be well received by people looking for a bigger screen. An X with a 6.2" display like the S8+ would be a nice phone.

Hmmm another thing I noticed is that face ID only works when phone is vertical and not horizontal. I use phone always when driving and is in cradle horizontal. Another issue I did not have with touch ID.

Your comment is absolutely correct. The iPhone X is the most astounding and stunning iPhone in the iPhone history. It is the true flagship product. It is a premium product, hence, it has a premium price.

The screen isnt much larger. Its wider in portrait mode. Thats it.

I had very similar concerns. The thing is, the iPhone 8 Plus is a perfected phone. It's the result of three-four years of trial and error. It feels super polished to me. I can't say that of my 7 Plus.

Being an Apple fangirl (sort of), I did contemplate getting the iPhone X, given that I do enjoy OLED screens. But other than the OLED screen and a new body, there's little it has going for someone like me who values solid design over the latest and greatest for the mere sake of it. I don't need to brag and show off that I can afford something. I did not buy the iPhone 8 Plus to serve as a status symbol. I bought it to be my daily driver, my extended hand. The iPhone 8 Plus excels in being just that. To top it off, it sports a now "classic" design that I see as iconic. I love the look and feel of this "outdated" device, love the thick bezels (OMG, right?) to rest my thumbs on while using it in landscape mode.

If I want something that has useful features that my 8 Plus doesn't have, e.g. a pen and other nifty productivity stuff, then it certainly isn't the X at this time, I'd be looking at the Note 8 or other phones by various manufacturers.

The X and 8 Plus are extremely similar in features, too similar to even be worth noting the differences. The biggest difference is that the 8 Plus doesn't have the "wow" factor. It isn't new, it isn't exciting, and it isn't the latest. For people who need just that, yeah, I can see how the iPhone 8 Plus seems like a horrible choice at a similar cost.

Multitasking, a stylus, wireless charging, a 5''+ screen, a file system, multi window. These are all features that people on this very forum said that they didn't need. Then suddenly when Apple ''invents'' it, they can't see how people can't live without it.

My iPhone isn't for people to guess my income level or where I stand in society. That's childish. If that was really important, then I'd be focus on real wealth indicators like a Lamborghini or a $30 mil loft in NYC.

There is probably a price barrier of entry for some. But just as likely is that some people just don't like the X. Maybe they don't want to exchange Touch ID for Face ID, Maybe they aren't happy with the colour shift of OLED, maybe the form factor doesn't suit them. Maybe they just don't think it's particularly good value over the 8 or 8 Plus for what you gain.

There are many, many reasons why someone wouldn't buy the iPhone X, price is not the only factor. Personally I'm very happy with the X, but I know people who wouldn't touch it with a bargepole and they can certainly afford it.

But the iPhone 8 is also a premium product. It too has a premium price tag and has an excellent finish. The iPhone X is only ‘more’ premium because we are told it is through marketing.

Apple isn't giving them the upgrades it deserves though despite the premium price. The iPhone 8 Plus 256gb costs $970, same as the base iPhone X but they didn't make it a compelling upgrade. They didn't even bother to give it a minor OIS in the second lens. It's just a minor thing excluded to give the X a selling point. Apple's giving the main exclusives to the iPhone X.

There has always been people using different tiered iPhones or older models and I haven’t witnessed this level of snobbery before? Christ, an iPhone is an iPhone to most people. Does anybody ever ask you what model yours is? Nobody has ever taken enough of an interest in mine, possibly because it’s such a popular brand.

The fact some people are starting to look down their noses at anybody who has the current iPhone 8 or older is a sad state of affairs for those doing the judging I would say. Get a life would be my response.

The difference has never been as stark as $300 though. The premium being paid is almost half the price of the smaller iPhone 8. I can't imagine what the X Plus is going to be priced at next year. $1100 for 64GB?

Lamborghini is a word for those who don’t know real luxury outside of what the movie screen shows. I mean it’s still an expensive car.

There’s nothing wrong with an iPhone 8 or iPhone 10/x. There’s only a difference of maybe $200 dollars between the two, I hope y’all realize (when bashing each other with in regards to whose the bigger idiot for getting the other phone).

If I didn’t run out of apple care on my iPhone 7+ I might consider sticking with the 7 for another year. It’s not a luxury I need, but then it did become a need. Renewing my iup would mean a renewal of Apple care (I’m super clumsy, even managed to break the iPhone screen with a sport tech 21 case) and I get a fancy new iPhone for about $15 more a month for 12 months...that’s fine.

But even before this, I had the number and number + s versions of iPhone (I never brought apple care and I figured I might as well get a new phone).

No two pots are the same. I feel like those who are on 8 are those that like Apple but not quite so much to take a dive into the future, especially since the water is a bit choppy rn... some would rather wait and let others be the guinea pigs.

Still, can’t we all get along?

Good call out here. I was at a social function recently, still rocking an SE right now. And this guy says "What is that like an iPhone 4!?" In this very snobby tone.

The guy works a pretty low wage job, meanwhile, I am doing pretty well. It really struck me just how much these expensive devices are used as status symbols with most people going into debt to get them.
