Ah, whatever. I got my X today but until today I was on a 16gb 5s (since one a week or two after release). It served me perfectly fine until very recently! My husband will be holding onto his 16gb 5s & 5c a while longer...and likely going to an 8+ over the X. I won’t let that affect matrimonial harmony, ha ha.

To be completely honest when I compared the X screen with my Galaxy S6 edge+ I thought mine was better. The colors were a little more natural looking. The X had a warm hue to it and appeared a tiny bit more pixelated than mine (when looking up close). That's my objective feedback from comparing the screens. The pentile subpixel arrangement was more noticeable on the X too.
Ill be excited to see how people are enjoying their iphone x's. I got the 8, its my first iphone. Came from a nice samsung oled to an lcd screen. Still not complaining. On paper it would look as if i downgraded but i really prefer it. Ill be excited to see what apple puts out in the future. I really think the x is a test to kind of see if their new design can swim. Of course a llot of people will give feedback and i think it will only improve the future iphones. I dont think apple will do another release of two different styles of iphones. I think next year, you'll just get the option of the Xs or Xs plus depending on how well the phone does. Hopefully the price drops, when people arent having issues with their current devices you gotta really give them reason to drop money for the new one.

Bummed by how X is so narrow, coming from a plus. It feels like looking at apps and typing through a porthole. Leaning towards returning for a plus. Will give it the weekend to see if it takes.

It will be interesting to see what Apple will do in 2018. I get a feeling we will get 1 more generation of 6/6s/7/8 design called iPhone 9 and that will be it. I could be totally wrong, but I remember they said they had 6 years of Steve Jobs product designed devices in the pipeline after his death. This may had been his final device and they got a lot of mileage out of it.
Only Apple execs know, but possibly after that, it will be the X style moving forward. I would guess that when they fully commit to the style of X we will see more user interface changes and probably price drops so the masses could afford them a little easier.

The only owners the OP should feel sorry for are the ones who have the iPhone 7 and 8. Their Plus siblings can hold their own. Apple has gimped the 4.7" models for the last two years now and jipped people for paying another $700 for a HD iPhone.

X just killed getting another 4.7" iPhone ever again. Zero point. Zero advantages except paying the lowest for them. X just made the 4.7 and 5.5 worlds collide without getting gimped like the 4.7 has been the last two years.

Been Plus since 6. Love my 8+. Played with X today and it’s neat. I’m slightly tempted but only because it’s new and different. Test pictures I took today with my 8+ bested the X. Small sample but 8+ managed light and color better IMO. I do like the X but that screen gets really small with videos sans Notch.
The iPhone 8 Plus IS a flagship phone and feels extremely premium as well. What is your point? Do you really think that the people who spent 1,000+ to buy the iPhone 8 Plus cannot afford the 200-300 something difference in price? Don't pity us for our buying decisions, pity yourself for creating inane thread-titles like this one.

Honestly, based on all indications, the battery life on the 8 Plus is superior to the 10, it has the same processor, it doesn't blue shift. Yeah, it's a dated design, but I don't get that people should be sad or ashamed to own it.
Hate to break it to you guys (and I'm in the same boat), but it's just a phone. In 10 months Apple will launch a better one.

I have both the 8 Plus and the X and I'm thinking the exact same way that you are. I haven't really had time to play with it due to work.
Thing is this: my justification for getting the X was that I would give my 8 Plus to my wife or my daughter, but my wife doesn't like big phones and my daughter is only 16 and I'm not sure she's ready for the 8 Plus. Plus, I am on IUP for both of them ($45+$56=$101/month). I may return the X and buy my daughter an SE instead.
Sorry, I'm just not as impressed as others. I don't like the narrow screen. I am not liking the notch. Not a fan of the gestures, but that isn't a deal breaker. I waited in line for about 4 hours today to buy it, so I have to give it a chance...

This is what I have read in a published review. The X can't match the Plus in regards to battery life. I'm one of those waiting on the second iteration.

I don’t even entertain the thought of buying the Plus models and never will. I’m happy to take any hits on the hardware front to have a phone that is comfortable to carry around. You may speak for yourself but not everybody else.

The phone you carry is absolutely a status symbol and a clue to the people around you about who “you” are the same as the clothes you wear, car you drive, etc. Intentional or not people are always making immediate impressions of the people and things around them (it’s an inherited survival trait). Whether or not you care what your phone is saying about you is totally up to you and most people, to use your example, would never be vain enough to TALK about their phone as a status symbol.
Bottom line, whether you care or not, it’s a status symbol.
As the future owner of a Samsung Note 9, I feel sorry for all X owners, what with:
the X's inferior display
the X's inferior screen size
the X's constant reloading of apps and web pages
the X's inferior multitasking (I said inferior multitasking instead of lack of multitasking because Apple refers to the app switcher as multitasking lol)
the X's inferior customisation
the X's inferior speed (yes you read that right)
the X's inability to be used as a productive device
the X's inferior storage options,
you really don't know how bad you've got it, you poor little darlings.

You can live in a house worth $20,000,000 which has 10 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms or you can live in one worth $350,000 with 2 bedrooms and one toilet. Or anywhere in between. With phones, every man and his dog has one and the biggest variance between the most expensive and least expensive is what, $500, $600? Big deal. If you're gonna fork out money for an 8 you're gonna be forking out money anyway, the extra $300 for the X ain't gonba send you broke. I've seen people get out of very expensive cars holding a crappy Blackberry and I've seen people with the latest iphone catching a bus.
It is not a status symbol because 13 year old girls have iphones. My 9 year old son has an ipad from 2 years ago and for his 10th birthday he said he wants the 10.5 inch ipad pro.

The X and 8 really aren’t that different. Aside from FaceID and the lack of bazels, they are essentially the same phone. The 8 Plus even has a few advantages (wider screen which is better for email/web, no issues with OLED colour tint at angles)

It’s the last of the old generation of iPhone’s. That’s sort of like buying the “Limited” production run of a car the last year before a major model upgrade. You get all the bells and whistles thrown in of the new model, but shoved into an old body style. Some people are perfectly fine with driving an older model with mismatched components. When you use the X you suddenly realize how Swiping is supposed to work per Apple’s vision, you suddenly realize the magic of Face ID, etc.
And you then realize how the 8/8+ crowd don’t have a clue what they are missing.
No need to be condescending about this. I think saving €500 on an iPhone 8 is a perfectly reasonable decision for many people.
Besides: today's cutting-edge technology is tomorrow's outdated technology. Sooner or later, everyone will have the iPhone X (or something similar). You just pay extra to have it a little bit sooner. That's it.

You said Samsung. As an owner of a S8+ and a Note 8, I’m just going to leave you to your delusions. Because three months after you start using it, the lack of product quality, and the slowdown of the Android OS, trumps everything you just listed. Android phones REQUIRE faster processors/more memory because they are such a poor mismatch for a poorly built OS. It’s so refreshing to use an iPhone that has matched components to the OS.
Hyperbole. You’re talking about features that are technologically awesome, but in terms of usability do not make a monumental difference. In other words, Touch ID was already great. And Face ID does not necessarily make up for the smaller screen size of the X (in terms of width)

Oh don’t you worry. Some people love to enjoy the present time while some others keep always looking at the horizon and waiting for something better. People look the same but are so different, which is good I guess.

Lol pissed myself laughing at how ridiculous this post is. Surely you mean the ones you feel sorry for are the PLUS owners.
Even after 3 years, everytime I see one of these surfboards I giggle at how clumsy, ungainly and awkward it looks. And so so ugly. At least on the 7/8+ it’s waterproof so you can go surfing on it.
Now that the X is out, there is literally ZERO reason to buy a plus model. It’s the plus version that the X has made obsolete, not the 4.7” version. It literally makes no sense as a purchase when you can either get a 7/8 with a usable form factor for less money, or the latest and the greatest with the X for not really that much more money than the plus.
All of the plus’s considerable shortcomings (the 2014 design has aged far worse on the plus than the regular model) would be forgivable if it was cheap, but it’s not. The design is a complete embarrassment in 2017 - hell it was even back in 2014. Apple should have just released the 8 and the X, and dropped the embarrassment that is the 8 plus

It’s only a status symbol to those who care about status symbols. There may come a point in life where you grow past that and no longer look at status symbols but rather you start looking at the character of people and appreciating that over their car or their phone. Most of the people who care about status symbols are those that envy the possessions of others. There’s a whole other world out there.
