I think those owners are in for a shock if they think everybody is going to be impressed by it or think of it as a status symbol. I certainly don’t. I think it’s pretty sad if owners of the X really do need that reassurance. My advice still stands to those people, ‘get a life’.
Well said!
I have an older iPhone and don't give a monkeys, you can buy a refurbed macbook pro for a little more than an X 😱, plus don't most people put their phone in a fancy case, so you cant tell what it is anyway.

I also have a galaxy s6 puerly for gear vr use.
If I could put ios on it I would use it all the time.
Looking at the X, it looks very similar to my s6 (quality, finish etc) but screen rez is still less on the X 😕.

I got the iPhone 8 Plus, and ordered the iPhone X two days ago. Many people will call me mad for doing so, and to be honest I initially wasn't planning on getting the X. But I did. Obviously I'll be selling my 8 Plus as soon as I have the X. 😛

The iPhone 8 Plus isn't a bad phone by any means tho. Incredible performance, more than a decent screen, great for video and gaming because of the bigger screen, fantastic cameras etc. But it just doesn't feel right. And I would lie if I said it's a nice improvement over the iPhone 7 (not the Plus). It's not a bad phone, but coming from an iPhone 7... well, it's not right.

So I'm glad I decided to go for the iPhone X after all. Looking forward to getting that baby in my hands.

I originally planned on buying an 8 and let the X users beta test the phone but that was more trying to convincing myself that I didn't want the X. I just played with one in stores and it is unequivocally the best iPhone Apple has ever made. The feel is extremely premium and the screen is so good that it looks fake, as if the icons are stickers on the screen.

Then I planned on buying a used 7 to hold me over for the XS but the iPhone X doesn't feel like a beta product, it feels like a flagship product.

One of the guys who works for me went from a Nexus 6 to the 8 Plus and deliberately avoided the X because there was nothing it had (other than Wireless charging) that he wanted - doubly so given the extra $200 it would have cost. The only thing he wanted was wireless charging (having had that with his Nexus 6) so he, for one, is quite content with his purchase.

One thing to remember about people is that no two people are the same; we all do what we do for different reasons. Never judge others based upon your own feelings.

So far I️ do like the X. The only reason I️ don’t love it is really because of the width of the phone. Coming from the iPhone 7 Plus the X seems way small. I️ am really on the fence about returning it. I️ am hoping next year there will be an X plus.

The fact that people are calling iPhone 8 users poorer when many of them have $1,100 tablets and and $2,000 Macs is laughable

True!! Got a fully specked out 15” MBP with TB last year and iPad Pro and SS Apple Watch this year.

It’s not for anyone else, just but what I like. Totally surprised anyone can say that an iPhone 8 owner is poorer than someone who owns an X.

iPhone 8 and 8 plus owners will justify as much hard as they could to hide their true love feeling toward the iPhone X and would not admit how superior the X from the 8 model. Price and affordability are the number one barrier for their purchasing decision. It is the fact. They can cover it many many excuses, but it will come down to premium price and affordability. Face it, if iPhone X did not have a premium price, no doubt, everyone who says they are not cared about the X due to wise decision or many many other excuses, would get it in seconds.

After all, iPhone X is a premium device, which is not for everyone, like Porsche or any other luxury car.

iPhone 8 and 8 plus design is pretty similar to 7. Nobody can tell the difference as the design is exactly the same.

The X is the real upgrade due to its design stands out from previous generation from iPhone 6 to 8.

After seeing so many people on here returning their iPhone X, I am happy to say I made the right choice with the 8 plus and I used my friends iPhone X for over a day and I wasn’t slightly impressed with the screen nor the thinner screen.
Seems like you are trying to justify your purchase

Both are great phones. I have both at the moment. I was concerned about the smaller usable screen on the X, but I have fairly quickly adjusted.

The big question for me is battery life. The Plus is exceptional in that area, the X based on my two days with it is challenged in this area.

That's the most stupid comment I've ever read. I purchased an iPhone 8 because I "needed" one at the time (don't need to explain why).

I am going to be as judgmental as you here and say I probably have way more tech than you, and could 'easily' have afforded the X over the 8. Money is not an issue. But it is still hard-earned, and I plan to keep my iPhone 8 (which is a great phone btw) until next year.

No excuses and there is more to things that meet the eye. Open your mind, and do';t be so judgemental.

You are wrong on so many levels. You don’t know the persons financial situation in getting the 8/8+ over the iPhone X. The iPhone X is not overly superior to the 8 model that one has to purchase it. Some of us, including me, will wait for a larger iPhone X plus. We are more concerned that this brand new model will have teething problems to a point where it would be advantageous for us to wait one year. That makes financial sense for some of us. These are not excuses by any means.

Unless this is meant as sarcasm, this may without a doubt be the dumbest comment I’ve seen yet in all my years on Macrumors.
- I have 3 X’s on my kitchen table for my family. All going back because they prefer the plus. All 3 currently have the 8 plus. Do the math. After tax and upgrade fees that is $6,960 in phones. Paid in full, in cash. Your affordability comment is as weak as your post.
- Superior X? That narrow, elongated, yellow hued tiny screen with a damn notch and bar that hides content? Running the same internals as the Plus? With as much wasted space on screen as the plus has bezels? Yeah, ok.
- You are that insecure as a man/woman that you need the design of a phone to define your self worth? To let others know you have the X? Bless your heart. High school must have been rough for you but now you get to ‘show em all’ by pulling that cute little X out of your pocket. Pathetic.
- Here’s some sage advice. Without knowing you, I won’t judge your financial worth. But you’d be making one hell of a mistake gaging mine by the phone I chose. In my world, the 8 Plus and all it does with the screen it has makes that ‘premium’ X seem like a child’s toy to keep them occupied while dinner is made. So you enjoy that cute little skinny phone. I’ll keep enjoying my Plus. And you keep trying to justify why you spent more money that me to have an ( in my and others’ opinion) the second best iPhone. Try next time to think before you post.

Yo do realize that except for a few camera specifications, the screen, and some useless features, the 8 plus and X are identical. From a functional perspective, these phones have the same processor, same amount of ram, same performance. The screen quality is not mind blowing, and it won’t really change your user experience dramatically. I’m perfectly fine with my 8 Plus, and it suits me perfectly. You do realize that if I had the choice to choose between a free X and 8 plus, I would chose the 8. Besides that hideous notch, the phones gestures and other things just don’t appeal to me. By the way, I bought the 256 8 plus with apple care, well over a thousand dollars and more out of my pocket in the long run. I’m perfectly financially solvent to buy anything I want( I literally buy 2,000 dollar bags.) Believe me, when it comes to money I’m good in that department. PSA to all smug X users: NO ONE GIVES A DAMN ABOUT YOUR PHONE. Stop assuming that the only reason a person would get the 8 is because of price. When I buy a device, I don’t buy it for others, I buy it for me. And “luxury device?” Believe me, the car I have costs more than a Porsche. Stop being dicks por favor.

Grow up ffs

I love my 8+. Many others do too. Many folks are happy with their X's 8's, 7 series, 6 series, 5 series and SE. I'd venture some are even quite content with older models too. There's a fine line between discussion of pros vs. cons between devices and justification or belittling. There is a way to objectively discuss how or why certain models offer features that MAY be better than others and many posts in this thread illustrate how NOT to do that. Please don't try to convince others why they NEED a new device. Or why they made a poor decision and why you made a better one. It's really this simple: Enjoy what you have and if you don't, find something that makes you happy. There are no shortage of great options these days, Apple or otherwise.

couldn't be a stupider comment in this thread.

youre probably the type of badge whore who leases a stripped out, no option base bmw 320i for $300 a month and immediately debadges it so nobody knows its actually a super sh!tty base model, thinking anyone is going to care anyway. hows that saying go? spending money you dont have to impress people you dont know something something

i love my 8 that i chose over the x because the 8 is what i wanted to buy, and i will love my early retirement. i dont care what vapid pissants think about me based on my phone, the car i drive, or the house i live in. you dont get rich by writin checks, get back to us when you figure that out.

EDIT: the 8 is the most powerful phone apple has ever released...not the x, not the 8+.

You did miss out the people who ‘can’ afford the X but think it’s extortionately overpriced though. The iPhone 8 isn’t exactly a cheap budget phone so there is no shame in owning it. It’s a premium product too and pretty much the same product as the X anyway.

Don’t fall into the trap of assuming everybody who criticises the X somehow is secretly jealous they can’t ‘afford’ it. That’s the sort of superiority complex way of thinking that was being mocked earlier in the thread.

Dont feel bad just came back from the store comparing side by side between iPhone 8+ and the iPhone X coming from 6S+ the iPhone X is way too small (the 5.8" is a bad gimmick ) I wish the come out with iPhone X+

14 pages and X owners who want to bash 8 owners still can't explain what makes the X superior to the 8 Plus........

Still waiting.
I tried an 8+ and returned it due to the earpiece clicking bug that was eventually addressed. Was close, at least 8-10 times, to re-buying it but ultimately held out and got the X. Media consumption and landscape mode, for me, are the only things the 8+ has over the X. I only watch movies and videos on my phone when I am at the gym and don’t really care about landscape mode. The X is easier to use as a phone and pocketability is FAR superior to the Plus, for ME. Both are sick devices, I can’t believe people who bash one or the other on here. Spending $950 on the 8+ 256gb means you are a cheapskate, but $1150 for the same spec X you are rich. Nonsense.

First, you clearly don’t know any of us 8 and 8 Plus owners. You especially don’t know me and what I’m capable of financially. I won’t bother arguing with you because it would be like me being a bully towards a learning impaired child. Your logic and conclusions clearly show your level of intelligence. Enjoy your “premium status device”.
