Seems like some kind of new Avengers movie 8/8+ heroes vs X villains?? LOL.
I think it’s the other way around. The villains usually have more crude technology (eg Justin Hammer reverse engineered suit, hacked Chitauri flying technology, Ivan Danko whips made in a ghetto).

How anyone would spend money on the same phone that’s been out for 4 years now with just upgraded internals beats me. It’s stunning that people can even defend the 8 because for just a few hundred more you could get the X.

I think if you actual care what people think on this forum, or in real life, about the phone you have....then maybe you need to re-evaluate you prioritizes.

I have the X....the 8 Plus has its own set of advantages.

But who gives a darn what others think about your choice?

Lol so when you upgrade the guts of your computer every few years do you kick yourself for updating? Do you need a new case everytime to make yourself sleep at night?

Agreed. And I think the sales numbers for the end-of-line 8/8+ will clearly demonstrate not many people took the bait to invest in the 4-year old form factor. Only those who either had to or simply are uncomfortable with new Tech.

Dont feel bad just came back from the store comparing side by side between iPhone 8+ and the iPhone X coming from 6S+ the iPhone X is way too small (the 5.8" is a bad gimmick ) I wish the come out with iPhone X+
Exactly. Again I am happy with my 8 Plus especially now that I have played with the X at the Apple store. It is smaller than I expected..it's a taller screen. Perhaps I'm just used to the feel of the 8+ since I've had a 6+ since 2014. (Skipped the 7)

Look all the slamming each other is absolutely moronic. Forum is starting to feel like high school cliques from 30 years ago. "The cool kids got the X and the inferiors has to settle with 8's" Kind of what this all sounds like...really? Those who love the X..the look of it, speed, everything it has. good I am really happy for you. Those - like myself - who went with the (yes..."old design") 8+, excellent. we're happy. The speed of THIS phone is personally pretty darn incredible I think! And those who didn't choose to upgrade from a 6s or the 7 last year...thinking the 8's/X were not worth the upgrade. May want to wait until NEXT year when maybe the X's get even faster, more features. I totally respect that also. So be it.

Just my 2 cents about all of this.

The 8/8+ WAS the latest and greatest.

Until the X was released. Now that title belongs to the X.

Ever wonder why it’s not called the iPhone 9? Maybe because the 8/8+ mark the end of the road for -old Tech and style.

Old tech ? Same Tech minus the screen and the second lens on the camera. We got the slightly longer battery life and no notch + it’s wider 😉 Did I forget that the keyboard is larger than the X

Different way of interacting with your phone. Makes the experience better. Feels very natural.

I’ve had swipe up on jailbroken devices for 5+ years

This feels better than that.

More interactive with the screen since you have to be interactive with the screen without a home button.

I’m enjoying it. Couple times I phantom click the bottom screen tho haha

Why do I keep reading everywhere that the 8's design has been around for 4 years? The 6 was released in September 2014, that's 3 years ago and 4 years ago we had the 5s which is a whole different design language than the 6/7/8.

I think people conflate that with that the 8 has a year of life in it before a successor (aside from X) and will be the fourth time they’ve pulled a similar design.

But yeah it’s been “only” 3 years indeed

Prior apple has never released the same design more than twice, unless you count the SE slip in in the spring before 7 release in fall 2016 But that was arguably bringing the 5 design back from the grave. Something that had been sunsetred after the 2013 5s release

I checked out the X this morning. I do not like the tall skinny screen or the gestures.

I currently use a 6s and when I upgrade it will be a 8/8+..not sure which just yet. The + would be my first larger phone, I was so tempted to take one home today.

As for this feeling sorry for 8/8+ owners..no need. Your sympathy isn't needed and its not true anyway otherwise you would treat people with more respect instead of gloating behind your keyboard every chance you get. Grow up!

Yeah I thought that could be the reason people are saying that. But I think it's kinda weird saying it's been 4 years NOW with the same design. When you have a son that is born in September 2014 you don't tell people you have a son that is 4 years old now😕

True

But if you got a 6 as a freshman you’ll be entering your senior year and graduating with an 8,

That’s depressing going through college without a single body change.

I recall 2G to 3G(S) to 4.

It was all a big deal 😀 (to me at least)

The golden era, in hindsight

Haha it can indeed get pretty depressing for people having the same design for such a long period time. But I'm in the group of people that couldn't care less about the 'outdated' design of the 8. I love the 8!

I believe that the X next year will be total deferent too

For sure. Still an excellent device

Not sure my 7plus is going anywhere anytime soon. But I’m into keeping devices around more so these days.

I’d be shocked but delighted to see some breakneck speed on design changes after a slow crawl as an understatement

Lol so when you upgrade the guts of your computer every few years do you kick yourself for updating? Do you need a new case everytime to make yourself sleep at night?

When you upgrade the guts of a PC, you don't pay full price for everything. iPhone 8 should be $550 and the iPhone 10 at $650

So for a few hundred dollars more I could get:
- a phone as narrow as the 4.7” with wasted space everywhere
- tiny letter boxed movies in landscape when using the popular 16:9 aspect ratio
- Face ID that I was able to prove unusable in many instances where Touch ID worked
- a more yellow hued screen
- smaller keyboard
- smaller pictures and video playback in portrait mode because of the narrow screen
- full of apps not optimized for the new aspect ratio
- Animojis (my bad I’m not 12 years old)
- the same internals as the 8 Plus
- damn near same side bezels as the 8 Plus
- no bottom bezel but aha, look at how the keyboard sits atop all that wasted screen space. May as well have a bezel
- no top bezel, just a horrific notch that blocks content time be time again
- takes extra steps to do things such as wanting to see if your WiFi or Bluetooth Is indeed on, or check battery percentage, or just get to your home screen from a locked state
- many people don’t give a sh*t about design over functionality. Want to be shallow and judge my worth? Look at my house or car. While one might be impressed, neither define me nor does the design of my phone.
- we can keep going, just let me know...

Keyboard size? For an older person with poor eyesight this may make a difference.

You also forgot to describe those gorgeous bezels of yours. I think the 8/8+ may be the absolutely LAST phone in this price range to have such wonderfully large and utterly worthless bezels. So in that unique, you've got yourself a real advantage there I guess? Gives your shaky hands something to hold onto I suppose?

Which likely describes most of the 8/8+ buyers, small segment that they are. Old and shy of newer tech innovation. The Baby Boomers' choice.

I bet this is what Samsung S8 and Note 8 owners thinks of X owners, except they add the notch and almost edge to edge screen.

The X is a beta tester for the real OLED iphone coming out in 8 months..... don't feel bad for 8 owners, we went for old Mr. reliable while the X owners provide feedback to Apple on the Galaxy S6 OLED.

The real OLED iPhone?

Whatever you need to tell yourself!
