It’s funny how obnoxious some people can be. You had no problem not having an OLED display for the past 10 years. My first smartphone, the Galaxy Vibrant, had one. Yet somehow bezels are now a problem, when you bought every iteration of the iPhone. Even when Android users criticized Apple for keeping the same body forever, many of you bought the iPhone 6 essentially 3 times.

These features are new to Apple, not the rest of the world. If those features really mattered, you would have jumped ship a long time ago. Remember when some iPhone users hated the phablets, and then kept bring up that stupid iPhone chart with the thumbprint graphic? I do.

Having had the Nexus devices, Galaxy Notes, HTCs and a variety of other phones over the years....nothing is really new that Apple puts out to me. I love their implementation as it tends to fare better than the competition, but even that’s subjective. The phone space is competitive and Apple doesn’t have the only leg on premium smartphones.

For me, my 8 Plus will serve me just fine as I switched from the 6 plus. Is it ‘just’ a $200 difference? Yes. But the apps are not optimized yet. From my experience with the 6 Plus, by the time a majority of my apps are optimized we’ll have our eyes set on the next X.

People aren’t seeing the flaws now because in many ways this is the first time Apple has made a distinct premium iPhone. But come next September, many of the users will will **** on the very same phone they are praising.

Being an early adopter is overrated for me. I’m paying a premium for bragging rights and problems. I have much more things to do with my life than constantly worrying about what smartphone I have. At the end of the day, all this does is lines Apple’s pockets. Not mine.

You also forgot to describe those gorgeous bezels of yours. I think the 8/8+ may be the absolutely LAST phone in this price range to have such wonderfully large and utterly worthless bezels. So in that unique, you've got yourself a real advantage there I guess? Gives your shaky hands something to hold onto I suppose?

Which likely describes most of the 8/8+ buyers, small segment that they are. Old and shy of newer tech innovation. The Baby Boomers' choice.

I originally planned on buying an 8 and let the X users beta test the phone but that was more trying to convincing myself that I didn't want the X. I just played with one in stores and it is unequivocally the best iPhone Apple has ever made. The feel is extremely premium and the screen is so good that it looks fake, as if the icons are stickers on the screen.

Then I planned on buying a used 7 to hold me over for the XS but the iPhone X doesn't feel like a beta product, it feels like a flagship product.

I love the posts about people who can’t afford the X. Unlike them, I will make no assumptions as to why anyone made their choice. I have stated in several threads why I chose the 8+, it isn’t financial. As for the financials, I don’t think the extra $8 a month on the AT&T next program would kill me.

Everyone will have their personal preference, and I’m quite glad Apple decided to release the 8 as I don’t think I would have gone Apple this year if it wasn’t just the x as the only option. If android was a bit more optimized and fluid as Apple I would have stayed on the note 8.

Their were rumors pointed to having a larger version of the phone. And I’ll wait for the beta testers of X to get Face ID perfected and let the bugs play out and be fixed.

Face ID works flawlessly for me, not sure where the bugs are.

I’m personally glad that Apple has both options. I skipped the 6s and 7. I was still able to upgrade to an excellent camera, water resistance, 3D Touch and a variety of other things (plus my phone is hella fast). I don’t see why people are crapping on the 8 when they would have bought it if was the only option.

Agreed. And I think the sales numbers for the end-of-line 8/8+ will clearly demonstrate not many people took the bait to invest in the 4-year old form factor. Only those who either had to or simply are uncomfortable with new Tech.

So why is the iPhone 7 suddenly doing so well if ‘people’ do not want to invest in ‘4 year old tech’? The X isn’t sold out in a lot of places so if sales are poor for the 8, what does this tell us?

Some have different priorities with spending and when you have two phones very similar in capability, then are you surprised a lot of people go for the cheaper option? What special user experience are you going to get with the X that you won’t with the 8. Will my instagram look a bit better?

I’ve had swipe up on jailbroken devices for 5+ years

This feels better than that.

More interactive with the screen since you have to be interactive with the screen without a home button.

I’m enjoying it. Couple times I phantom click the bottom screen tho haha

Yea I tried it with a jailbreak on my 6 I think it was. This is much better. Everything feels really smooth to me. I like it.

I'm still not sure whether to get the 8 Plus or the X. Biggest dealbreaker with the X for me is the possible screen burn-in.
My phones last me at least 3 years. I don't want any screen burn-in bs within the first year or so.

You literally got scammed by Apple since they have sold you the same housing that they’ve been making for 4 generations now their cost is very low. I can tell you now I haven’t used an iPhone X, I don’t even know a single person who has bought one. I know 2 people who have the iPhone 8 but again I have not physically touched one myself. I use an iPhone 6S and am very happy with it, especially as I have another year with it before I can upgrade. I don’t feel scammed or that I am enjoying a poorer experience.

Looking at hands on reviews of both of the latest iPhones, I can say the user experience is identical to mine. I’d use the same apps I use now and the screens would be laid out in the same fashion. I don’t get the feeling by holding an iPhone X and doing the same mundane tasks, I will feel better about the experience. Then again I’ve never had that feeling with any of the iPhones I’ve owned/used.

Could you perhaps try and explain what feeling you get by using the X, and how this enhances flipping between email, social media etc?

Or those of us without baby hands who like the larger keyboard, larger photos and videos in portrait mode, larger videos in landscape mode, etc. Not for bad eyes, but because the larger plus screen makes content look better.

The bezels seem to bother you. Have you noticed all is the wasted screen space on the already more narrow tiny X? Below the keyboard for example? The letter boxing of videos and text in landscape mode? The horrid notch hiding content? The side bezels that, church them up all you want, are bezels? The homebar that doesn’t disappear and hides content? FaceID that doesn’t work after a certain degree of angle, upside down, with various attire, etc?

Nah, it’s not old people buying the 8 Plus. It’s the tech segment that wants a much more refined product with the same internals, bigger useable screen, no color shift, not narrow and teeny like a toy, and, wait for it, don’t validate their self worth from a cell phone lmao. Bless your heart. Go show your friends your new X. But don’t cry if they react the same as others have to the 3 on my table.....not giving one ****.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. There is not a big user experience difference between any of them, and a 6. But whatever makes people happy when they spend their money! Apple now gives buyers a wide range of cost options for roughly the same user experience.

People forget that Apple still wants iOS to virtually be the same on every phone. I can go down to an iPhone SE right now and still have a good experience. Because Apple has a minimal viable experience that just works. I can't necessarily go down to the lowest Android device and have a great experience because that covers the same range.

Apple is a walled garden. A very beautiful walled garden. But most of Apple's devices don't change the overall UX that much. They support their devices for a long time. Apple even mentioned how they didn't want to change iOS because no home button was enough. I can imagine the iOS experience changing once most people have an iPhone with no home button.

I just checked out the x in the store and sort of feel the opposite.

For those of us who watch a lot of video on their phones the user experience is a lot better on the plus phones.

In standard mode the video on the X is noticeably smaller. Go to full screen and it’s still smaller plus you have a notch on one side of your video.

We’ll see maybe in just rationalizing but I like the wrapped borders in full crop mode

The notch sucks but I can almost hold the phone there and be fine

I will always watch it cropped the other mode is a complete fail size wise.

With OLED colors and blacks videos are wayyyyyy better than my 7plus even having more width and all. No contest
