It’s the best out there for those that decided to get it. This is an interesting thread. It used to be that there is Apple, and then there’s the rest. We’re all in the ecosystem, we all have preferences. The problem with the anonymity of the internet is too many people expose their true selves, and it is pretty sad the amount of arrogance out there based on superficial reasons.

The 8 Plus is a great phone. The X is the same phone with a different skin. Same internals, I just can’t take portrait shots with my front camera and make funny faces on an emoji. Trust me, I’m not suffering.
I agree. It’s amazing how the internet exposes insecurities about certain people. Comments like ‘second class’ and ‘inferior’ being used by ‘some’ iPhone X owners here to describe any other iPhone. The funny thing is this is all about image and the way they feel they are perceived by others and the assumption this device is envied by those unfortunate not to own it. I’ve seen an element of snobbery in the last 2 days that I haven’t witnessed before and it’s all rather pathetic.

The very fact this thread exists is testament that most of us live in a different reality to this superficial elite due to the comical responses it deserves.

I don’t feel bad for the iPhone 8 owners... I’d be happy with with either of them.. When I’m ready to pull the trigger, if I don’t like the X I’ll definitely be getting a 8.

I do honestly feel that the 8 series will be a sales failure when compared to the 7 or the X IMHO. If you can’t afford the best you’ll go with a 7 and if you have the money (or decide to extend yourself) you’re going to want the best and latest. It’s hard paying almost as much for something that looks 4 years old when a little more will get you the latest.

I can totally understand a 7 or X purchase. Buying an 8 sort of makes me scratch my head, but I guess if someone really wants an 8 then more power to them. They might have buyers remorse in a few months though and wish they had spent all that money on something all new, but it’s their choice.
In a few months the Xs will be announced that will fix the problems with the X. There will always be something better on the horizon in a year.

Yes but will someone who just bought an expensive 8 want to upgrade to an even more expensive X in a few months just because Apple made a few changes? If you buy a new phone every 6 months then that makes sense, but if you want something for a couple years then I’d go with the X.

Two years is a long time to be out of style IMHO.

Don’t feel sorry for me. I will get an X for cheap when you start making up shortfalls to justify getting the new iPhone next year. Funny that the iPhone 7 lost the crown after it was “perfect”.

I like my iPhone 8 (not plus).

I’d like an iPhone X, but I didn’t see enough value in the cost. Verizon 2 or most like 3 with be my next phone.

The 8 might be ‘only’ £300 cheaper than the X but the vast majority of sales are on contract. The cheapest UK contract I’ve seen for the X is £56 a month whilst paying £249 upfront. You can get an 8 for half of that, so the gulf in price is significant.

It’s also worth noting that a great many adults out in the wild couldn’t give a toss what phone you use and certainly wouldn’t look down their nose at you for using an iPhone 8. This sudden superiority perception is dreamt up because some want to feel their flash gadgets actually mean something to other people. Not everybody got this memo.

What are we, teenage girls talking about purses?
No one I know judges me based on if my phone is "out of style" and if they did, I would probably stop associating with them.

The Apple brand was built on style and fashion. If a person is already spending extra to carry around a high end name brand it’s easy to assume that they will want to spend a little more to have the best and latest model.

The 8 series is just so far behind everyone except the $150-250 Android phones when it comes to style. For some that doesn’t matter, but if brand name plays a part in your purchase that is an issue.

Out of style by buying an iPhone 8 Plus? lol.

I love mine, it's the best iPhone I've ever had.

Why I won't buy the X:
  • I never buy a 1st gen Apple product
  • Too expensive
  • I seriously think the notch is ugly
So don't feel bad for me. Enjoy your X 🙂

I originally planned on buying an 8 and let the X users beta test the phone but that was more trying to convincing myself that I didn't want the X. I just played with one in stores and it is unequivocally the best iPhone Apple has ever made. The feel is extremely premium and the screen is so good that it looks fake, as if the icons are stickers on the screen.

Then I planned on buying a used 7 to hold me over for the XS but the iPhone X doesn't feel like a beta product, it feels like a flagship product.

Don’t feel bad for me bro... my 8 Plus is what I wanted. It’s a $800 piece of tech that I bought straight out of pocket ... if I wanted to I could go buy me an X right now for $1200 out of pocket unlocked. Cheapest one I’ve seen on Craig’slist... am I going to?? I haven’t decided yet because my 8 plus is still great

So we're on the same page then. Like teenage girls and purses.
In terms of functionality and power the 8+ doesn't lag behind any phone, including the X. If you prefer the X that's great! I certainly don't blame you. But to feel "sorry" for anyone with an 8/8 plus? That's just silly.

I think it’s cool the most refined 6 (tho uninterested with 7plus what I felt was already the refined 6)and a peak into the future sold simultaneously

Depends which you value more.

Nothing to pity on any side. It’s an iPhone.

Even the SE is a little beast

Does it feel and look more premium than the 4 when it first came out? Beautiful design. Stainless steel sides. Retina display. I thought that one was a huge improvement. No increase in price, though.

The X is a beta tester for the real OLED iphone coming out in 8 months..... don't feel bad for 8 owners, we went for old Mr. reliable while the X owners provide feedback to Apple on the Galaxy S6 OLED.

That poor logic. By that, the "real" OLED iPhone coming out in 8 months is just a beta of the real real OLED iPhone coming out in 20 months.

For all we know we’re getting the same exact OLED panel next year.

Cause Samsung isn’t gonna budge that quickly for scale of another launch with different specifications

All the iPhone X did was make the 4.7" models irrelevant for good.

iPhone 7 & 8 -
Same ppi as iPhone 4
One less gig of RAM
No Telephoto
Worst battery life among the flagship group while having smallest display/lowest resolution/ppi between Plus and X
Worse battery than the SE!
Still only has a 1800-1900 mAh battery trying to power 750p!

The iPhone 7 and 8 owners having a $700 HD smartphone were the ones who got jipped. This is why I got the 5" Pixel over XL. Google didn't compromise it as much. Same battery life, camera, and amount of RAM. Had 1080p.

All the X did was kill the 4.7" iPhones models. Absolutely ZERO advantages over the Plus models and X being similar sized while retaining all the Plus features is the final nail in their coffin.

Check the battery life below. Only 4.7" and 326ppi. The 4.7" consistently score the worst among iPhones. The iPhone 7 also has the highest SAR for an iPhone. No point buying a 4.7" iPhone. The X killed it.
