So we're on the same page then. Like teenage girls and purses.
In terms of functionality and power the 8+ doesn't lag behind any phone, including the X. If you prefer the X that's great! I certainly don't blame you. But to feel "sorry" for anyone with an 8/8 plus? That's just silly.

I don’t feel sorry for anyone because of something they chose to purchase. Heck I get a hard time around here because I have an S8+, but I’ll tell you it’s one hell of a good phone. All I’m saying is I can understand why the 8 won’t get much love going forward and will be pretty forgotten around here.

Do you think Tim Cook is carrying an 8 or an X? If I had a million dollars to bet (I don’t...lol) but if I did I’d place it on him carrying an X. Now does that matter to you? Probably not. Does it matter to me? Nope. However there is a pretty large group of Apple customers that do purchase the phone brand or style and this group wouldn’t give an 8 a second look.

There just isn’t much interest in the 8 around here anymore. Go look at the iPhone forum. I don’t see any discussion except in threads like this about it. It’s a good device, but totally forgotten and overshadowed by the X.

This is all true but I don't understand why it matters. To me, it's like you're explaining that water is wet. Of course the 8 is overshadowed by the X. And if Apple announced that the "Xs" is coming out in January there'd be no discussion about this X in 6 weeks. People will always obsess over the newest shiniest thing. 9 months from now there will be multiple threads about the best way to sell your X to get money for the next new thing.

Oh we’ll see a lot of threads like this over the next year. With a mix of Some X owners that want you to know they’ve got the best and some 8 owners that are secretly jealous they don’t have the X it’ll be ugly at times.

Obviously you don’t care and neither do I, but you just know this is going to happen. 🙂

Yeah, it's inevitable...

What about scumbags like me who use an iPhone 6S and don’t feel in any way inferior? Where would I fit in with your presumptuous diatribe?
Im glad you didn't upgrade to the 8's honestly I would of kept the 6S over that model. no point to upgrade a 6s to an 8 also if you dont feel like it. The x is a different story.

Friendly advice ... I'd probably concentrate on mastering spelling and grammar before trying to master psychology.
I dont really care how I type on here. This isn't a class. I type fast and get on with my day. Dont focus on little details on a forum board. I could care less about my grammar on here

Yeah, I'd say it's pretty close. A better screen and FaceID...
Don't get me wrong, the X is a fantastic phone. Best iPhone ever, just like everyone is saying. But if you take away the facial recognition features it doesn't actually do anything that the 8+ doesn't.

Except look like an old 6+.

I’m not due to upgrade yet and I can’t justify the X. I probably would go for the 8 due to it being an identical contract price to what I’m paying. The fact it looks very similar to the 7 doesn’t bother me really. I went from a 6 to a 6S and they were absolutely identical.

I liked the jump from my 6+ to the 7+ but I couldn’t do it for a 3rd time with basically no changes with the 8’s. I wanted something different. The plus size models have always felt huge to me but I lived with it.

If I didn’t know better, I’d start profiling a lot of X owners as having some real, deep-seated, self-esteem issues. Fortunately, I do know better.

Nevertheless, this “my phone is better than your phone” is getting really, really tiresome. Like little kids on the school playground. Maybe there are more MR members still sitting in their parents’ basement than I originally thought. I’m happy for X owners without feeling one iota of regret over my 8 Plus purchase. Enjoy your phone, but your (false) pity is misplaced. Put your energy into growing up instead.

So I purchased an iPhone 8 this week because I don’t think I’ll like Face ID, but I must say that I’m feeling the X pressure. Why oh why didn’t Apple include Touch ID as well? I will probably stop by the store and see if I like it. Still have some time to the return the 8.

Because once you’ve spent a day with Face ID and realize how easily it adds value to the experience you’ll realize how often wet/sweaty/dirty/gloved thumbs have been a bane to Touch ID.

Some people need to get off their high horse. I got the 8 plus last week and will get the new X next year. I’m pretty much missing FaceID. But I get a fully realized mature model. My 6 plus was slow. I don’t have to wait for my fave apps to get updated. I have more important things to do with my time. And a 65” OLED beats a 5.7 any day

Face ID is great, but I think you're exaggerating slightly with Touch ID being that problematic. Yes, it can be affected by those factors, but it's fairly accurate in reliability for what it's worth. I myself have had very little issues (If any) with Touch ID since it's inception. But I understand everyone's situation varies.

The Apple brand was built on style and fashion. If a person is already spending extra to carry around a high end name brand it’s easy to assume that they will want to spend a little more to have the best and latest model.

The 8 series is just so far behind everyone except the $150-250 Android phones when it comes to style. For some that doesn’t matter, but if brand name plays a part in your purchase that is an issue.

You realize you are talking about 2 phones with 2 rounded rectangular slabs of glass and metal in between right? It’s not a status symbol, it’s a phone. Go to the average person and start talking about your phone representing your status in society and you will find a lot of strange looks going your way. But you may be a little too focused on your status to notice. Or maybe you might be focusing your attention and eyes to unlock your phone while that average person unlocks it with his fingerprint to take a quick glance at pocket level laughing at you adjusting your viewing habits to unlock your phone.

Come back down to earth, there are much greater things going on in life than basing who you are by how much you paid for your phone.

I'm coming from a 6 Plus. The 1 GB of ram was laughable. Especially with iOS 11.... things have become unbearably slow. Everything needs to reload anytime apps are switched.
I'm coming from a 6+ as well 16GB I never upgraded to iOS 11 first of all I never had any storage space left.. my order wont arrive until maybe the 14th or the 21th I'm not really all that excited to be honest.. but I work at UPS so maybe the craziness of any iphone release kills any type of happy mood.

I actually have both. I purchased the 8 Plus with no intention of buying the X. I was reminded by the wife that my daughter needs a phone, so I decided that my wife or daughter would get the 8 Plus and I would get the X.

Sorry to say, at the end of the day, it's just a phone. I'm not overly impressed by the X at all. Not returning it, but it's not as great as some may think it is. Maybe the X2 will be more impressive.
