doesn't the rMBP have some new ventilation structure.

I'm on my cMBP and don't see any of the front vents or anything

i don't even know where the vents are on this thing.. at the display joint maybe?

I can't make any sense out of your message, please take a look at this link and then come back to tell me there are performance issues…. LOL

I am sorry, my apologies. I misunderstood your post.

All I can say, regarding the cooling on the cMBP vs rMBP, is that the rMBP is VASTLY superior to the cMBP.

I couldn't use the cMBP on my lap for more than 40-45 minutes w/o feeling like being BBQ'd, while running the SAME tasks and softwares on my rMBP, I am able to keep working with the computer on my lap for hours w/o feeling any heat!

This, to me, is a huge improvement!! I need no other proof.

ya i'm hoping installing 1.35v ram and an SSD will lower operating temperature on this cMBP

but when i'm doing anything intensive the computer is off my lap and i haven't noticed it getting hot when just dicking around

Thing is apple has fery small and thin fans in their laptop
I was stripping down macbook pro completely very small so you know these laptops are NOT for games otherwise it will GET BBQed

That's alright with me since I don't game on my laptop. However, from what I've been reading, the new MBPs do great with gamers too!

Was that a 2012 cMBP on your lap? Did it have an SSD? It's not a valid comparison if it's not the same CPU & GPU and SSD.

this is off the current line of discussion but i kind of hope that the cMBP design doesn't go away entirely and the rMBP becomes a 15" MBA and they still make a user-upgradeable MBP with a ton of ports and IPS displays are standard on everything.

wishful thinking, probably

Yes, a mid-2012 cMBP HR + AG and SSD with a 2.7 Ghz CPU ; 8GB RAM ; NVIDIA GeForce GT 650m with 1GB GDDR Memory i.e. basically the same as the current rMBP except that the rMBP has double the RAM, a larger SSD, over-clocked GPU and a better cooling implementation.

Mm yeah but only this new one retina .. that is big step of change.. very responsive computer ..
Guys, does anybody installed windows 7 on retina ?
I really want to see that big resol. In screen resolution option and how icons are..

It won't lower your temperature significantly, you want to be careful what voltage RAM you get, get the same voltage as what is in there currently.

Lowering temperatures on a cMBP is only really obtainable by replacing the thermal paste application and hoping you do a better job than the factory did.

Another thread where only the people who have a retina don't see any lag. I guess once you spend that much being a beta tester your going to be biased and overlook problems.

Imo at £1799 for the base retina it better be perfect or no sale. Same goes for any high end luxury product.

I didn't see you mention you bought the cMBP in your previous posts. You mentioned you were going to buy one but jumped at a good deal on a rMBP.

I did buy one briefly and had it for about a week before I got an amazing deal on the ultimate rMBP which I couldn't turn down, so jumped ship.

Otherwise, I'd still be sporting the cMBP. Other than it heating up [ comparatively ] I absolutely loved that machine...although didn't care for the silver bezel lol..

definitely not doing that on the laptop

and my computer had 1.5v ram but Apple/Intel recommend 1.35v so I upgraded w/ that.

I've used all kinds of voltages at all kinds of recommendations, you can set voltages also (though I don't know how to do this with an EFI boot)

nothings perfect, sorry. and i guess you missed the hundreds of posts by rmbp users discussing lag. And why are you coming on here telling people they are foolish for buying a rmbp? i dont get these kinds of posts, really.

From a seasoned overclocker of self built machines, I know about ram voltages.

But I wouldn't be expecting any sort of heat reduction from your upgrades.

Show me lag… any lag… in this video which I took yesterday…

http://youtu.be/Dudx1GhHGiY

I don't believe anyone in here who is complaining about lag bothered to post a video showing the proof. My video clearly shows no graphical performance issues whatsoever. So unless someone is willing to take a video of this "lag" nonsense so that we can try to duplicate the issue and diagnose, it's nothing but FUD.

And by the way, people are saying they suffer from lag just with Safari running on only a Facebook page. Well, I'm playing three HD videos - one full screen - while browsing Facebook and theVerge (very busy, heavy site) and switching between spaces. Smooth, no lag. Where is your proof?

ya i expect maybe something statistical but nothing demonstrable

not that i'm going to check, i don't particularly care, if that was a big issue for me i would have gone rMBP as its heat management is in a different universe

it is a little confusing, though, that apple specs its MBP ram at 1.35v but is installing 1.5 in some of its machines. I just popped in 16gb of 1.35 1600 and running memtest on it now

You absolutely loved it for a week? OK. 2 entirely different purposed books. If you need a cMBP a rMBP will not replace it. A rMBP is really not all that professional. It is more a Macbook Air/Pro. Pro's need options that are not contained in 4-5 50.00 dongles. My 2.6GHz is far cooler than any other Macbook Pro I have owned or operated, which has been every single make model and cpu speed. Most of the cooling is thank to Ivy NOT Apple engineering.

… for you. I find the RMBP an incredible "pro" machine - it's blazingly fast, incredibly thin, light and portable, and supports all of my professional photo editing and real estate needs. My needs to not require a wired network, so no "dongles" (you must mean "adaptors") for me.

I could just as easily say the cMBP is not all that professional because it contains legacy technologies that weigh it down and an inferior screen. Of course my statement would clearly be as wrong as the statement you just made.
