I Ordered My Retina iMac High End What did you get?

got mines on tuesday and returned it,didn't see much difference in terms of performance/screen considering i don't do photo editing or watch 4k videos etc i guess it's not worth it,then again i never noticed a difference on my imac 27/mack book pro retina,i also sit close to my screen so maybe that's something else i should of considered before, anyway hope everyone enjoys there new imac if you're in for a new imac def worth it,if you're buying it just to buy it when owning a 2013 model def not worth it,tho if you're buying it to utilize the 4k def go ahead

tho i did have my 2013 27 for 3 months so guess i saved some money, ill re buy when they upgrade the processor for intels lineup.

Got my fully pimped model on Monday.

I love this thing. After you've seen this display, you can't unsee it! I'm spoiled and can't imagine going back.

I used to lean in to read smaller text on my 2010 iMac and now I pull my head and chair away from the desk and can still read everything perfectly.

I've suffered from some ocular nerve issues since a car accident I was in 2.5 years ago and I can finally look at a computer screen all day and not get migraines and vertigo at night. It's life changing!

Ordered i7,8GB,256GB,295X on 23rd around 9pm
Got shipping notice this morning at 4AM

Apple says delivery is Nov 3. Fedex says 10/31

Who is right?

FedEx has always been right for me in these same situations.
They are in fact the shipper so they should know the best.

My first Apple, took some soul searching after years on PC.

However, decision made and I ordered the retina iMac, i5 , 1tb fusion drive, the standard 2 gig video card and 8gig RAM ( upgrading to 16 gig via Crucial).

Delivery not due until next week, but really looking forward to it.

My main use will be photography (hobby not professional) and general computer use. Have to run Paralells 10 too as I have some Windows based software not available on Mac but essential for what I do :(

I don't play games so I'm hoping this will see me through a few years.

Typing from the new Retina! I have 3 hours to play with it before I go to work. So far, everything is nice! The display is extremely nice, but the more noticeable thing for me is the speed of the system.

I came from a late 2009 iMac. It served me well for 5 years, and at that time I upgraded to the max so I could use it for many years to come. I did the same thing with this iMac by upgrading all components.

Right now, I'm just updating essential software such as Office, Photoshop and Lightroom.
Will test the 4K videos later today.

SHIPPED!! :) Arriving Monday!

Update: It sat in Shanghai for 2 days... departed this morning. Now arriving Tuesday.

I think I've discovered a major problem with the 5k. After spending hours editing images and checking out UHD videos on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NNJtpYI-Uo), my HD Plasma TV looks like crap now.

Bummer. But not a bad thing, really.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Buy a 4k Plasma. Tell that to my wife. ;)

Oh no... what have I done? HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. HD is fine. Based on what I've read from this thread, 1-2 days is typical. I'll post when mine ships.

Update: Out for delivery today! (1 day early!) :D:D

Ordered (expedited): 10/23/14 a.m. (expected delivery 11/4-6)
Shipped: 10/28/14 (updated estimated delivery by 10/31/14)
Out for delivery via FedEx: 10/30/14 :D:D

Coming from a 1TB HDD (late 2009) to the 512GB SSD is a huge difference! I barely was able to get Read/Write at 100MB/sec on the HDD.

Order/ Expected delivery

Update 2: I just picked it up from the Apple Store a day before their second estimate, so a full 11 days before the original estimated pick up date. Unfortunately it might be a bit before I can actually get it home and set up as I'm currently stuck at work with plans for this evening and nothing to put it on (I ordered the VESA mount version and the arm is at home). Hopefully I'll be able to get it set up tomorrow or Saturday.

Update: As of this morning (10/31/2014) mine shipped and the pick up date was moved forward a full 10 days from Nov. 17th to Nov. 7th. I'm certainly not complaining. Hopefully I don't see any issues with customs.

I ordered for pick up at my local Apple store in Philadelphia. Currently in the preparing to ship phase as it has been since yesterday. Hoping it gets delivered before the estimated date as that will make it a full 21 days of waiting after ordering.

Configuration: i7, 8 GB RAM, M295X, 512 GB SSD, Apple Care
Selected Shipping Option: Pick up
Available Time to Ship: 7-10 days (Estimated pick up date of Nov. 17th Update: Nov. 7th)
Date/Time Ordered: Oct 27, 7:30 pm EDT

Nice. Wish someone would post the 1TB Fusion and 256GB SSD numbers on this machine - not the ones from 2012/2013 machines. I want to see if they will at least match my 120GB Mushkin of approx 550 read & write on Windows.

Ive just ordered my 2nd iMac in 3 weeks.

i7 4.00 ghz

I dislike the whole look of yosemite, but will have to get used to it.

Its going to be a long 14 day wait:)

Yikes, that stinks! I hope mine doesn't get pushed back too. FedEx has had my estimated delivery as Mon by 8pm, but I noticed that it sat in Shanghai for awhile. My wife jokingly (but half seriously) said "Maybe the FedEx planes were all full." I think my iMac departed on a FedEx plane about 8 hours ago, so hopefully it will arrive in Alaska any minute now.

I chose Standard shipping versus Expedited Shipping, so perhaps mine has a slightly lower shipping priority.

It sounds like your mac is being transported as quickly as mine - and I ordered on 10/23 with expedited shipping! I don't know if yours will slow down when it arrives in the lower 48, but I'd keep my fingers crossed. :)

I'm starting to get a little crazy about this whole shipping thing. I've even tracked down the flight that (I think!) is transporting my mac to the Memphis sorting facility. Which is pretty close, relatively, to my home town. I'll know by the time I wake up tomorrow whether I'm going to get a friday delivery. As I wrote above - fingers crossed!

UPS says their system says held for inspection by Chinese Government. They need to bring these back to the USA and make them here. This China crap is getting old. I don't think I would order this way again.

It angers me to here this! Held for what? Perhaps held so they can software.

Why Japan?
I don't see anyone else's tracking showing Japan.
I hope there isn't a problem!

By default, Fedex shows all scan times in the time zone where the scan occurred. Set all the times to a single time zone using the 'Select time zone' drop down box (lower right on the tracking page), and see if that doesn't clear things up.

My iMac arrived in Oakland last night at 9:03 pm PDT and was released from customs at 9:57 PM PDT! I was expecting it to go through Alaska, but it went Shanghai>Japan>Oakland instead. This was a pleasant surprise since I only live about 70 miles from Oakland. I thought for sure that when I woke up this morning I would see that it traveled overnight from Oakland to my hometown, which is a major city, but the tracking page still shows it in Oakland. Perhaps it missed a scan, but that's not likely the case. It looks like I won't get it until Monday...

This is the spec I went with.

4.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM (will order another 16GB from crucial making 24GB)
512GB Flash Storage
AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5
Apple Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad
Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad
LaCie 2big Thunderbolt 2 Series RAID Hard Drive (6TB)
Apple Care

Can I ask why you went with the stock 16GB? You can save yourself £50 and get an additional 8GB taking you to 24GB for what you pay apple?

Bryan,
I ordered just a few hours before you and am also on the left coast in Southern Cali. Same specs as yours except for 3TB fusion.
Mine is still stuck in Japan so consider yourself lucky so far.
Expected delivery is Mon standard shipping. We'll see I guess.
EDIT:
Mine just updated and was in Oakland last night about 9:03 PT and cleared customs at 9:29 p.m.PT so I'm right there with ya!
