I Ordered My Retina iMac High End What did you get?

frustrating that it is, they always get delivered....eventually :)

ordered a fairly customised iMac:
4.0GHz QC i7 Turboboost 4.4GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X4GB
3TB Fusion Dr (3TB+128GBFlash)
AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5

on 17th October.

Dispatched from China on 23rd.
So, if you change something to the standard configuration, it will take some time (unfortunately)
To be honest, I expected them to assemble my iMac in Apple Ireland as its just a short distance from UK and it is European HQ, but no... have a look at this:

I don't get the economics of this, but it must have some sense otherwise they would be doing it differently.
It seems I am too stupid to understand how it still OK to make INDIVIDUAL orders in China and ship them from there rather than having a small assembly line somewhere in Europe.

Anyway, for all of you in Europe, UPS had system update all last week so info has been a little bit inaccurate.
I had it scheduled for "early delivery on Monday" until Monday has passed and than it changed back to "delivery on tim, Tuesday"
Don't pay to much attention to their tracking page as it will arrive when they originally told you it will.
Very very rarely it will surprise you pleasantly :)

I used to lean in to read smaller text on my 2010 iMac and now I pull my head and chair away from the desk and can still read everything perfectly.

I've suffered from some ocular nerve issues since a car accident I was in 2.5 years ago and I can finally look at a computer screen all day and not get migraines and vertigo at night. It's life changing!

Thanks for the useful review. I may just get one of these yet. My eyes are strained everyday I sit at the computer all day so this sounds encouraging.
 
I got it on friday and been using it since.

I decided to go with fully loaded one and made a clean install of Yosemite.
Its been running cooler than rMBP and i hardly hear that fan kicking in even on heavy use of like watching 4k video and having aperture running in background plus couple of safari browser tabs open.

So far happy with purchase it has replaced my 2010 iMac.

That's probably my destiny also, I'm afraid. Really been vacillating over getting a Retina iMac or the six-core nMac Pro for audio work. I just want that 4GHz(4.4GHz Turbo Boost) i7. It kicks butt!
 
Ordered mine last weekend and shipping to store. It has shipped and will arrive on Nov 4th! I am replacing my 2010 iMac 27

My iMac arrived at my local FedEx Distribution Center on Saturday. I called FedEx and requested that they do not place it on the delivery truck on Monday morning and that I would come pick it up. It's only 10 minutes from my house, and this ensures that the FedEx driver doesn't try to deliver it when I'm in the shower, etc and I end up missing the delivery.

One time, I was expecting a very important delivery that required my signature and I was home waiting. The UPS driver rang the doorbell and I went running for the door. I got there within 10 seconds, but the driver had already pasted an attempted delivery notice on my door and was in his truck driving back up the street. I got in my car and chased him down, catching him 3 blocks away and then I took delivery of the package. Not that I ever expect that to happen again, but this takes any worries away.

Plus, the FedEx truck doesn't get to my neighborhood until 4-6 pm...picking it up myself means that I can be there when they open at 9 am! ;)

I placed mine on the Oct 29th. I called them yesterday with a question regarding my credit card and "James" told me mine would ship out Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Same for me, I also ordered on the 30th and its still processing. Says it will deliver Nov 13 - Nov 18.

Ordered i7/16GB/m295x/512GB on Oct. 23rd. After I told UPS to hold it for pick up due to their lack of ability to deliver anything when they say they will... I finally booted it up for the first time last night.

My face must've looked like this :eek: for a solid hour. What an amazing piece of machinery. Happy to report no issues. At one point, icons in finder wouldn't appear.. unless I dragged one... but closing the window and reopening finder fixed that. Not sure what that was... The screen is intimidating. There is so much real estate. While I was transferring stuff from a USB HDD, I played around with Motion and .... just wow. There's almost too much room for 1080p. But editing in FCP is going to be a blast! Having 2-3 native 1080p windows going with plenty of room to spare is so ...comforting. I couldn't be happier.

I don't think I'll be tempted to buy a UHDTV because of this... but my next phone will have to shoot 4k. I have a semi-pro HD cam that isn't going anywhere and I won't be replacing it either because there's really no reason to yet. My customers still prefer DVDs to Bluray... But it's nice to know I have the option now... what a world.

also... the silence is also very shocking... I'll have to do some rendering to see if I can get the fan going... no sure how this thing doesn't melt when you see what PC builders do nowadays to keep them cool...
