So a couple of things I read elsewhere: Apparently, there was a big Chinese jewelry smuggling bust that was delaying stuff at the end of September. Then there was the weeklong vacation in China. Then, Apple itself was causing delays for others due to its contracts with shippers for the new iPhone, so I wonder if iPhone shipping is actually delaying iMacs out of China.

I have no idea if any of this is causing the issues we're seeing, but maybe. It's just annoying. I'm not waiting on a shipment, but it's causing me to delay a possible order of a custom iMac to replace my base model.

Very true.....never thought of that!

So I just made my first call to Apple Customer Support. It's been just over three weeks since I ordered. In Japan you have a choice of Japanese or English support, and I almost always choose Japanese because they tend to be very polite and sympathetic.

As expected, nothing much to report, really. I explained my situation, and at first the woman suggested that perhaps financing had delayed things a little, but I explained the precise timing (it only took a day). Next I said how I've heard that lots of people have delayed orders, with more people getting e-mails informing of delays every day, and I'm worried that I my order will be delayed further. So she went away for a while to check into it.

When she came back, she said that this product has been more popular than they expected, and they are struggling to fulfil orders. She didn't quite say it was a shortage of parts, but that was definitely the implication. She then said that they are making every effort to fulfil orders as quickly as possible.

And that's about it.

I think that is more likely to be the truth rather then the stories re inadequate graphics cards etc. After all, even though this is the most expensive iMac ever it is also proving to be the most popular and out selling anyones expectations.

And guess what...?

I'm going to have one (soon, I hope) :D

Hi all been lurking for a while:), trying to patiently wait... not happening though. So thought i would add my data to the debate and for Thorf13's spreadsheet. I went for the i5 processor wondering now if I should have got the i7 & M295x but could not stretch that far and don't dare change my order now.

Ordered on the 31st Oct @ Midday

Spec:-
27 iMac Retina
3.5 Ghz CPU
8gb Ram (Probably get another 16 from crucial)
m290x
3TB fusion drive

Original Date:-
Dispatch 7-10 days - Delivery 17th to 20th Nov

Second Date:-
Dispatch 5-7 days - Delivery 27th Nov to 01st Dec. Shipping per the delay email on 25th Nov

Like many only got an email after the original 10 days had expired. Got excited when it went to preparing for shipment on Sat 8th, only to be disappointed when went back to processing.

How long does it take to ship to the UK. My date got bumped a week so its currently a 26-28th window. I just checked and its STILL in processing?!

When does it have to be shipped to meet this? If it gets moved again Im cancelling.

I think from looking at the lucky ones who got orders in before the 29th. It goes from preparing to ship and then shipped within a day. As for the time to the UK I think it is 4 /5 days, although Apple Customer Sevices told me when i asked for expedited shipping after the delays started that all new products go expedited..... Not sure i believe them. If so this should be quicker:) Don't suppose that helps any but I keep doing the calendar maths... just to cheer me up

I wouldn't believe the expedited thing either but all I keep thinking is that as each day goes by I'm another day closer to getting it. In a few weeks time we will all be sitting in front of our 5k screens with big grins on our faces, Apple will be forgiven (because we always forgive them) and this forum thread will be a distant memory.

How right you are.. What's another week. Patience maybe a virtue, but at this point cannot help being impatient :)

Has anyone actually taken delivery of a riMac recently?

I'm getting the impression that this is not just a delay because they can't get them out fast enough to satisfy the amount of orders, but is a complete halt to deliveries altogether - which suggests a hardware problem of some sort.

If this was simply an issue of higher demand than expected, people would still be receiving them as fast as they could make and ship them but that appears not to be the case.

It seems that the last lot to actually receive their order were those that ordered on 29th October.

It certainly seems that way from this thread.

However, it's still possible that people who have not posted here have received their machines. Most notable is that we only have one or two reports so far from people ordering the i5 processor, and none with those orders delayed. (Yet.)

Looking at the spreadsheet, we can also see that no one who has posted in this thread or in my thread has ordered the base M290X video card, either.

So it could be that all orders have stopped (perhaps due to shortage of screens), or it could be a shortage of the i7, or a shortage of the M295X.

I ordered the retina iMac maxed out cpu, 4g video ram, 512 ssd when I got the machine on a clean system I noticed problems like windows of browsers lagging and so on the bench tests I ran were OK but I really do think the GPU's are at their limit now they showed signs of lagging not something you expect in a new system, anyway within three days it had frozen on me 3 times, wouldn't shut down properly (black screen but cursor still visible and moving). Then applications refused to load I couldn't even see screen shots in preview I had to use a browser so I returned it and will be waiting for the next revision.
I must say when it was working it was a beautiful screen and did run ok although I was expecting a little more from the benchmarks I ran I suspect the 5K screen is very taxing at the moment.
I hope they sort the problems out on the next revision because there are problems trust me.

I was just about to order a new iMac 27" retina. Are you the ONLY one suggesting theres a problem or are there others?

Afraid I have time to research through every thread so I am not aware of there being any problems with new Retina but wish to know before i take the plunge............please let me know if so:(

That's the best news we've heard about this in weeks.

No change for me yet, though.

Could you do me a favour? Go to https://supportprofile.apple.com and check if your new iMac 5K has been added there yet.

Nothing new on My Support Profile page.
I guess that they just placed the order to the factory. The serial number probably will appear when the iMac it's completely assembled and I wish that to be tomorrow :)

I hope the guy(s)/lady(es) who will gentle take care of my iMac will do their best job.

"Preparing for Shipment" for me also...lets hope it doesn't change back.

Delivers: Dec 1 - Dec 3 by Standard Shipping

Preparing for Shipment for me too. Last time they took 2 business day. I hope they ship out this Friday :apple:
