Apple is going to get theirs. Especially now that you posted this story.

No, they didn't give you a free Macbook Pro... the charge will re-appear within a day or 2. That's how mine was. :)

So because Apple made a mistake, that makes it ok for you to illicitly get a $2700 computer for free? You see why that doesn't make any sense? Your intent is written right here! Since when was fraud ok?

Geesh, the more I think about this (stupid thread), the more i'm sure that he has to call Apple and get this straightened out. Otherwise the charge will be pending indefinitely, which is no good.

Sorry to rain on your parade kid.

There ain't no free lunch in this life :(

very simple don't post questions like this. millions of peolpe can read it. second right now you have not done anything wrong. If you take the money out of your account if you let the account go under 2700 you are passing a bad check. basically you wrote a check for 2700 as long as you keep the funds in the bank you have not done anything wrong. It is up to apple to cash the check. It is up to you to keep enough funds in the account. The problem is you will now need to keep available funds.

Think of it like this you gave the landscaper a check for fall cleanup say 250 bucks. lets say he holds it until christmas eve 50 days or so . You don't need to call and ask him why did you not cash the check? You do need to keep the funds available. So if apple asks for the money 70 days from now and your account is short you passed a bad check. If you can keep funds available you are not guilty of any law breaking. Personally always wondering if apple will ask for the money and always making sure the funds are there is more work then I want to do.

Yeah even though apple has billions and I have thousands. I don't need the 2700 dollar anchor for the next year or so. Depends on your state law.

This would not be the way I would go. I'd want to resolve the issue (key word-resolve).

I've had banks make rather substantial errors with my accounts, as most of you have experienced i'm sure, where there is a delay in them taking out their pound of flesh (so to speak).

They get their cut, that's for sure.

It's saddening to see how many are willing to post their approval of the idea of theft, displaying their lack of ethics and integrity. I suspect they're also revealing their age range, as well. All I can say is our society is in for a troublesome future. It's certainly nothing to be proud of.

Why do people post things like this?

I promise you all, if Apple forgets to charge me for my purchase, I will not burden any of you with this information.

You hit the nail on the head. It amazes me the sense of entitlement demonstrated by people in general these days, especially kids and young adults.

Because he wanted a bunch of people come in here and tell him how cool it was and congrats on the free computer. Reality will hit him sooner or later.

We had a guy eat at our restaurant and he paid with his credit card (as many people do). It turns out that he never got charged for it, when his statement came in and the meal wasn't on it he came to our store and paid for it in cash (with his receipt). All I can say is that this man made my day and increased my confidence in the honesty of American people.

Just a story I wanted to share.

Did he have the Apple Pie?

to the OP ... how does AppleCare work for it?

Your bank isn't correct about that hold expiring. I preorder a lot of things months in advance. The retailer will put a temporary hold on the funds, the hold falls off, and they retain the right to go after those funds upon release or shipment of the item...it could be months from now. Right now I'm waiting for a final charge on an item I preordered back in late January that held and then fell off.

I agree with working under the rules of karma. While I don't wish for you to be double charged, I do suspect this is going to turn into a $2700 blurt for you.

I thought I was clear that by saying: I would not want to look over my shoulder for a year. That I would fix it. I would not be in a rush I would wait one statement . I have tried fixing mistakes and made things worse. ie double charge after a statement I would contact apple.

I knew the thread would turn into the "high horse raging" that happens with posts like the OP's. I admit that he/she obviously had their mind made up about what to do with the situation before the original post based on their responses, but the comments by others have been far more interesting.

I wonder if you had work done around your house and paid the landscaper by check. If a month went by and it never came through your account would you call the contractor and ask them why they hadn't cashed your check? I highly doubt that many people would despite the comments being made by the "older more mature" high horse riders that seem to be trolling this thread. Your arrogance is offending and simply stating that people who would be happy with getting something for free are "young or immature" shows your own ignorance not theirs.

Now flame on....

That is exactly what I and many others would do, and have done so on many occasions.

If you doubt that many people would, it may be a reflection on the caliber of people you spend time with. I can't think of anyone I personally know that wouldn't do the same. And it's not trolling to state one's honest opinions.

If you interpret integrity as arrogance, that's your problem.

They probably fell over after seeing that you paid full price for the 8GB memory upgrade. Apple charges a premium for their memory and you threw money away not ordering from a Third Party like OWC...if they actually run your card.

Donate the money to the charity of your choice.

Soul saved, problem solved.

You're welcome!

LMAO at some of the haters on here trying to act like the OP did anything 'unethical'. This is an error 110% on Apple and if a company of that size cannot notice/fix a problem like this without being notified by its customers that is sad.

If Apple had charged the OP twice would everyone suggest he sit and wait for Apple to contact him? Why would it be both the customers responsibility to fix the problem whether he was double charged or not charged at all, because I can promise no company calls to say "whoops we charged you twice" so why call the company to say "whoops you didnt charge me" lol. I think some people just project their jealousy on others by trying to make them feel bad. I assume these people if they found $100 on the ground would go straight to the nearest police station to report it incase someone came around saying they lost it

If Apple cannot notice/fix this problem on their own then lord help them in the long run financially/accounting wise
