Is your white home button SLIGHTLY crooked and has a tiny little greyish speck on the bottom ?

It is off by a fraction. I didn't pull the cable when I swapped it which in hindsight i would do if I did it again. It was kinda sketchy removing the backing and getting it re attached.

The spot at the bottom is actually the "notch" where it sits into the chassis.

I'll try and take a better shot tonight when I have a camera.

No it's okay don't worry about it. The reason I asked is because I have the exact same thing on my white button. The way I fixed it is by ever so slightly trimming some of the edges of the white button sides and now it's more centered. Just good to know I wasn't the only one :)

listen folks I keep seeing alot of you saying when the white one comes out in 2011 and my part says Apple.

there is not going to be a white iPhone 4 by Apple. Apple has already said they are not going to make one because of all of the same issues with the parts matching that you guys are discussing. and just because it say Apple does not make it Apple......Apple has not produced ANY white iPhone 4 parts!! so the parts you are buying are copies. now some may have better quality than others but they are copies none the less! they are actually talking about making a pink one.

I wish I was wrong! :(

I know that's the case, but the parts seem to be of pretty good quality and ifixdirect at least seems to be a solid company that will stand by their work.

if he was using good quality parts/copies you would not be having these issues to begin with. you dont see the other companies doing white conversions having these issues.

I can. Zeetron has given at least two people here a display that is misaligned. I think the reason you don't hear abou these problems from other places is becasue most other companies will only do the conversion themselves, so they test the parts before sending them back. That's why I sent mine to ifixdirect.

To be fair the only one I know of selling the DIY kit besides ifix is Zeetron and we know where they stand.

I'm sure I got one of the first DIY kits here. I'll be curious to see what others say when they get theirs.

At the end of the day, the DIY option is probably a bad one for companies to offer and I think iResQ got it right when they pulled it. By doing the work in house they can control issues and problems. By the time the customer sees the final product its been tested and works great so they are nothing but happy.

Who knows if I'm the one doing something wrong with my swap. We are all quick to blame the product or vendor and not ourselves and tend to be rather vocal about it.

I'll give iFix the benefit of the doubt as he has given me no reason to doubt him. Granted a couple email responses took longer then I would have like (24 hours max) but 95% of them are answered almost as quick as I send them.

If I had to do it over, I'd send the unit out and have the work done. Its been fun seeing how to do it, but I hate the feeling of not know its going to work until its all put back together...

Good points...part of the thrill if your a DIYer is doing it yourself..gives you a great feeling esp. on the iphone 4 which is not the easiest phone to take apart. In you case I doubt its "owner error" at all but as long as the situation gets resolved then as is well.

If people want to take the nerve of it out the picture sending it in somewhere is the best option. if your handy and patient then this swap can be done but like always go at it slowly...

I agree, the entire time i was doing it i was soooo focused and in the zone and by the time i was done and turning it on my hands were sooooo shaky lol

whilst i PROBABLY could do it myself, there is no way i would risk it. The device is just too expensive for me to risk. Props to the companies who offer this service though, i think it's great. Gives us average joe's a chance to stand out from the crowd. I have to admit part of the reason i want to get the conversion is for people to think im cool because i have it in white!

the main reason i would be worried about doing it myself is remembering which screw goes where.

Is your home button crooked or is it just not installed correctly?

I was wondering how you made out getting your issue with the sensor fixed ?

Update

I was just wondering how you made out with getting your issue fixed with the sensor thing....

So I talked with IfixDirect and got the shipping information. Just boxed up the phone and sent it off.

Once again they have been nothing but helpful and offer to do the work at no charge.

I'll keep you all posted.

Now I have to say, for the first time since original launch day Im without an iPhone.

I feel naked.

I feel like I'm cheating using an old MotoFlip for two days.

i pulled this off iregs's site whats everyones thoughts?

Due to the difficulty of the installation, we will not be selling this self-install kit for the time being and we recommend that anyone who is interested to purchase the iResQ White iPhone 4 Conversion Service so that your repair can be performed quickly by a true professional.

I'd say that's a good policy.

agreed. saves having to deal with issues if someone screws it up because they *thought* they could do it themselves.

leave it to the professionals unless you actually know what you are doing!

I would for the most part agree also. But there are some very skilled people who can pull it off. I had the privilege of watching a 70 year old ( yes 70 YEAR OLD ) lady take her iphone 4 apart in front of me.....this lady was amazing only thing is she could not get the screws back in to the sides but other than that she had it........I think that day will stay in my mind forever.....

As skilled as everyone may be, letting the professionals do it also puts the liability in their hands. If they mess it up, then they're responsible to make it right.

iFixDirect Comes Through!!!

So I just got off the phone with Michael from iFixDirect about my prox sensor issue.

For those of you just tuning in.. I ordered the DIY kit and made the swap last week. All went well with the exception of the prox sensor not working.

After trying a few suggestions here I finally gave up and put the black face back on and shipped the whole thing to them overnight.

So we talk and it turns out there is a very good chance my Jailbreak is why my phone doesn't want to work with the new faceplate. My white faceplate works fine on another phone running 4.1. He also mentioned there is another phone in his shop with the same issue, which is also JB.

We all know Apple claimed to make some improvements to the Prox sensor software in 4.1. It would appear these faceplates for whatever reason seem to be dialed into the newest update.

I gave him permission to wipe my phone and upgrade to 4.1 and everything works as advertised. I also had him do the white dock and headphone jack. Figured why not if it was already torn down.

Big props to Michael for figuring this out. He is going to send out an update to his clients letting them know there is a chance the faceplate will not work with pre 4.1 software.

Now. Have they JB 4.1 yet??

Go figure
