So I just got off the phone with Michael from iFixDirect about my prox sensor issue.

For those of you just tuning in.. I ordered the DIY kit and made the swap last week. All went well with the exception of the prox sensor not working.

After trying a few suggestions here I finally gave up and put the black face back on and shipped the whole thing to them overnight.

So we talk and it turns out there is a very good chance my Jailbreak is why my phone doesn't want to work with the new faceplate. My white faceplate works fine on another phone running 4.1. He also mentioned there is another phone in his shop with the same issue, which is also JB.

We all know Apple claimed to make some improvements to the Prox sensor software in 4.1. It would appear these faceplates for whatever reason seem to be dialed into the newest update.

I gave him permission to wipe my phone and upgrade to 4.1 and everything works as advertised. I also had him do the white dock and headphone jack. Figured why not if it was already torn down.

Big props to Michael for figuring this out. He is going to send out an update to his clients letting them know there is a chance the faceplate will not work with pre 4.1 software.

Now. Have they JB 4.1 yet??

good customer service, they get a thumbs up from me.

So you're in the UK, like me, and you didn't have a problem sending your iPhone away? How much was shipping, how quickly can they get it back to you? I'd like for them to do it for me since it's no more (I'm assuming they give your your black parts back too) but I'm just concerned with a) being without my phone b) sending it to america c) shipping costs.

What are your thoughts?

There is a jailbreak for 4.1. Also a jailbreak would not affect the functionality of a display. The issue was the display itself. The lcd and glass assembly regardless what firmware or whether or not the phone was jailbroken would not matter at all. I have seen phone running 4.0 thru 4.1 work with a white lcd/glass assembly perfectly fine.

Actually I'm in the US, colorado. I was a little uneasy about sending my phone across the country to anyone. I overnighted it on Monday at a cost of $27. And that to come back.

If you can live without your phone for longer then shipping could be a lot less.

Frankly if I lived overseas I would order the DIY kit. I know this is somewhat of double speak from my some other posts but the install really wasn't that bad. Had I known about the JB issue, it would have gone flawless.

So I put mine in the mail last Thursday with their pre-paid shipping label, and they still haven't recieved it. It was supposed to be delivered on Monday, but I got a "notice left" message on USPS.com, so I got into a chat with them and the guy said they'd have to go get it today and they'd ship it out. Come this afternoon, it says "notice left" again. So I called and, I guess, Michael answered. he said they'd gotten three phones in through the mail today, and he'd go and get it tomorrow morning and have it back to me by Thursday.

Now, if I'm not mistaken, USPS shouldn't automatically attempt a re-delivery right? I'm starting to get a little antsy in the pantsy about this... I really don't wanna lose my iPhone...

Sometimes they will try to deliver it twice. its not uncommon....you should be fine.

Haha, thanks. I feel kinda stupid about being so worried. But my phone is really important to me.

As well you should. USPS tracking system is very good also. So just keep and eye on it but again you should be fine. Next time go with UPS their tracking is a lot better.

I would've rather gone with UPS, but shipping is included in the price and he emailed me a USPS label. I didn't really have much choice unless I wanted to pay from shipping twice. (Which I didn't :p)

I talked to them just now, and they have my phone and it should go out today, so I ought to have it back tomorrow. *Huge sigh of relief*

Why didn't you bring it to their attention when you didn't get it overnight?

When they shipped mine I did notice he used a Priority flat rate box with an Express (overnight) shipping label.

This tends to confuse the post office as the box can get thrown in with the other flat rates until its scanned and could possibly miss going out that day.

That said, 6 days seems excessive. Didn't he give you tracking information?

6 days is a bit much..but I would have been all over them after a day or 2.....you should have been giving a tracking number...

Ya tell that to DR Lu 2010 whose is still waiting for his replacement glass.
And once again having your phone jailbroken will not affect the way a display works.

I had him do a restore and update to 4.1 so everything worked. The mailman wouldn't leave my package without a signature so I'll have to pickup tomorrow morning.

I'm gonna try a jailbreak tomorrow after I pick it up. I'm hoping it was the 4.1 and not the JB.

Ill keep you posted.

Ok as polite as I can say....the jailbreak excuse was just that a excuse a jailbreak would not affect a display ..he sold you a defective part whether you want to believe that or not its up to you....that was a bs excuse on his part

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since I have no way to challenge the claim. I don't see why he wouldn't have just put a new one on and told me everything worked fine.

I don't know if I would go so far to wipe a clients phone to cover my mistake (Even if i did give him permission) but who knows.

At the end of the day I got what I paid for, a working white iPhone. And I even ended up with the Dock and Headphone port.

As long as your happy. He prob didnt want to admit to selling 3 people on here bad lcd/glass displays. I stand behind the fact that it was not anything related to jailbreaking your phone.

I havent been watching this thread today but I am shocked at what I see. you guys do not get it. ifixdirect is without a doubt connected to zeetron. he sold you bad parts. a jailbreak cannot have an effect on how hardware functions unless its an app that directly works with something like maybe a camera. a jailbreak will not keep your proximity sensor from working. now did you install it wrong?? maybe but I think not because the original went back on and worked. the reason he wanted to wipe your phone was to make it look like he solved your issue and of course it wasnt that he is selling junk parts. he is a liar and maybe a conman! I can say this without doubt and Im not hiding behind a newbie screen name on here. you can see who I am and see that I have done nothing but try to help people since I have been on this forum. I dont advertise for business on here at all. I have nothing to gain or lose by making these claims.

but, then again its your money!

I gotta wonder if this is yet another reason some are only offering in house conversions?

I'll admit, there is little chance anyone has OEM Apple parts for this swap. So if we all in fact buying copies, even if they are very good copies, there is probably less QC then would normally come from an OEM product.

If there is a high failure rate of the parts, keeping it in house would allow the seller (who-ever that may be) to discover this before the parts leave the shop.

Okay, tin-foil hat off. It was fun seeing how the iPhone works inside and knowing I can possibly make repairs myself in the future so I was a good experience.
