still before you do that look carefully at the prox. sensor holes and the earpiece hole sometimes there is an extra piece of plastic film on them and with the white sometimes they are hard to see....

Nothing there. Let me ask you. Is the prox sensor itself part of the front plate assembly or does it "look" through the glass and sensor itself is on the inside?

Ill check the cables tonight and see what I come up with. I really hope its not a bad front plate. :(

it looks thru the hole....the prox. is one of the 3 cables to the right if your looking down at the inside of the phone. I would check those connections to make sure they are plugged in right and if thats not it then its something to do with those holes not allowing the sensor to detect your face.

Also the speaker mess that came on the assembly you bought did you leave it on? If so remove it and use the one from your black one. Its not designed to sit on the glass itself its suppose to sit inside that hole. Easiest way to do it would be to actually seat your org. mess inside the hole on the chasis and the put the glass on. That mess that came with your white on could be causing a little to much space and not allowing the sensor to work right. Its worth a shot to try it.

Thank you sir. Ill give it a go tonight.

New question. So where can I get a new screw that goes in the bottom to hold the backplate in place?

I must have not tightened it down all the way and just noticed its not in...

my prox worked. i took the one from the black and swapped it over to the white. i believe the other poster was spot on about the issue here.

I had a feeling it may be that just looking at the pictures that were posted here. Its amazing how the slightest thing in these devices can cause something not to work.

As far as those screw i dont know where to get them. Try ebay they may have a iphone 4 screw kit.

You guys are making me nervous that my proximity sensor isn't gonna work... I hpoe since they're doing the conversion it'll be ok.

Email or call them and ask them to put your org. speaker mesh onto the white front just to be safe and I am sure they will test everything before they send it back to you.

Can't speak for the company doing your conversion, but if you're paying to have it done I would assume they would ensure the proximity sensor works. I took mine in locally and the proximity sensor works fine (tested all the functions right their in the shop before I paid for it, and the guy who did the work helped me with the drill as I wouldn't have thought to test the voice recorder). So you should be good.

Well a quick update for those following.

Tried the suggestions listed here to no avail. Still no prox sensor.

I replaced the white front with my old black one and everything it back to normal. I don't know if its a bad screen or what....

iFix just emailed me back and we are going to discuss options in the AM.

Big props to DEE929 (Derek) for also answering a late night email.

This! My white front glass had a thin mylar film in front of the holes for the prox sensor, peeled it off and BOOM, perfect.

Like I said the little things make a big difference and sometimes the plastic is hard to see.

What would be the difference between these white parts and the parts from the official white iPhone 4 when it comes out in Spring 2011, if any?

Until someone sees an "official" Apple part no one can really answer that. My parts said Apple on them, does that make them Official?

The only thing I can see is some sort of different paint or finish to make the white more consistent.

Other then that, its hard to tell.

BTW. Here's my "FrankenPhone" in its current state.

I went back to my black set cause on my white screen, the LCD when miss aligned and it bother the crap out of me, and Zeetron doesnt respond to squat. Wish there was someway to get a new one.

Haha thats what my iPhone 4 looked like 2 days ago as well.
Here's my story :
At first I ordered a white backing and thought i was gonna want only that.
Loved it.
Once I put it on I kept thinking well now I need a white front.
Got the white front but forgot the home button so was using the white front and black home button (which did not look half bad it was nice actually).
Then wanted the all white look and got the white home button.
BUT
As i was putting back the white front after applying the white button I tore the flex cable for the LCD lol :p
Therefore I put back my black one for a day and then quickly got another white front and now its finally all white!

They weren't kidding about the home button not matching the body of the phone... Sheesh!
