Family Pack

I just bought a new MacBook this month so I will be eligible to get the $9.95 price. But I have another Mac in the house that could use the program too. Anyone know what they will charge me for the Family Pack in this circumstance? Will they give a discounted Family Pack price or will they have me get the single license for $9.95 and pay full price for another single licence? Bu..I was thinking that the licence for Family Pack allows one to install on 5 computers which the single won't. This will be interesting when I do buy the software.

I got my notification also today:

ILIFE '09 RETAIL FAMILY PACK-INT

Delivers: Feb 5

Wish there was a download also. Would be nice. And hello to everyone. Just joined the community.

Great, the new 17-inchers should be shipping soon now that the software is ready to ship as well!!

Thanks guys...

Because, iWork is a separate product that does not automatically come with a Mac. You have to explicitly order it. No up to date would apply since it is a separate bundle.

It's because iWork was shipping the same day they announced it. You can get it the same day so there's not need to have a special update deal. If someone buys the old version when the new one is out, don't be crying about paying full price to get i t fixed.

This makes a lot of sense.

Apple said to call them back tomorrow afternoon

My hopes are that ILIFE 09 is sitting at UPS docks now and will be delivered tomorrow morning. Just call your local Best Buy or Apple store and you should be fine.

Good luck everyone, please let us all know if you get one tomorrow.

What do you call a virus packed into a Torrent download?

... Justice.

No that's not right. I know a lot of people who use BitTorrent to distribute legitimate things; it's a great system; unfortunately have been ruin by pirates.

if everyone was moral...no one would be.

Sort of my point...

Ah yes; so therefore everyone is immoral and no one can have morality. Wow it all makes sense now. FTW!

They really teach great Philosophy in high school, huh? The point is that you shouldn't be making statements about being all high, mighty, special and moral. Morality is confined within the construct of a society. You can offer an opinion, but nothing more. You might even venture forth what you feel someone should do.

In short - don't apply what you think is right to everyone. Not everyone sees the world as such and all you are doing is serving your ego. It makes you look dumb ... or special if you wish.

Edit: I'll cut back on this talk, but I do reserve the right to reply. I'll just try and do it subtlety.

Also, this shouldn't be too shocking since iLife hit Golden Master ten days ago. I would think it's a matter of how fast they can put together the packaging. I do wonder how fast they put a GM, but not press software onto new laptops. Maybe they wait until the disks are pressed.

That would be the most environmentally friendly way to distribute the software. I'm not sure why they don't. Maybe piracy concerns.

iLife 09 seems to be a worthwhile update. Most companies offer a discount from the previous version but this is where Apple differs as well. They feel $79 is a discount.

Maybe if they finally offer a downloadable purchase then we can only hope that will be discounted for the lack of physical media. Here's to hoping. :)

What you dont get is that all macs come with ilife. so therefore there is not a full version only a upgrade/backup version. the upgrade price is $79.

WRONG! The iLife retail suite IS the full version. You don't have to have any previous version of iLife installed in your Mac to install iLife 09. If you reformat your Mac you can install iLife 09 right from the retail packaged box.

Any word on 64-bit support? With Snow Leopard coming this year with a 64-bit kernel, now would be the time to have programs in place ready to promote the feature seeing there wasn't much available at Leopard's launch. iPhoto and iMovie look to be perfect candidates to show the advantage of the extra registers and memory space.

No, I get that and got iLife with my Late 2007 Macbook. Nothing is free and I certainly paid for iLife in the cost of my Macbook.

There's certain salesmanship that Apple doesn't get. Knock off $10 for existing owners of the last edition of the product and see sales double what they would have been without the discount. If you skipped an upgrade then you're out-of-luck. That would be a little thank you to those people that are loyal recurring customers. Is that too much to ask? I mean it is software that is cheaply burned to a DVD and packaged in the most minimalist packaging material. They'd still be making huge profits. Don't they want more people potentially buying the instrument lessons as value-adds?

There are some compelling reasons to buy the new iLife for me but are there for most people? Maybe not. I could go without the new version and might just do that. I'm skipping the new iWork as the last one suits me fine. If iWork had a new app in it then that might be different (i.e. a personal database and reporting suite like MS Access).

just because you dont have to install an old version does not make it an upgrade price. if apple did not force it to be mac only and made it for windows & linux then you would see a big price jump. they are selling it for less because you have to own a mac to use it.

Yea stealing is so right, that was the original thread that started it all. Apparently you don't understand morality?? Do know right from wrong (aka moral)? Maybe it is you who think you are "all high, mighty, special and moral". Don't give me your moral relativism because I know right from wrong. I guess the only way for a person like you, to not feel guilty about doing something wrong is to say "what right do you have to judge me". You are the egotist. You're the one who thinks everyone is below you. I just love how when someone responds to your inane remark "special" you get all hot and bothered and still continue to throw out degrading statements.

My 2 year old knows right from wrong.

The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing.

Now go start a "all high, mighty, special and moral" thread. Leave this one for iLife 09 Shipping, which, by the way, mine is shipping on the 30th arriving Feb 2nd.

I ordered a macbook 2.4 last night, not realising, any chance it'll be installed on it?

It's no biggie, not like i'm really going to need iPhoto immediately and i'm prepared to stump up £7.95, but it would be nice if they put it on!

Usually Apple open the boxes and put a CD with the new software and seal them again. High probability that your new macbook will have that.

isnt $80 a little steep? i mean for 50 more you can buy the whole dang operating system.

With the fact that for $130 you can get the full OS, which is far superior to Windows, which costs $400 for the full thing, I'm not complaining. I'd pay $80 just for iPhoto 09, so the rest of the apps makes it more than worth it.

If 80 is too much, don't get it.

Perhaps it's because Apple doesn't expect to make money out of OS X (it just sells the computers), whereas it does intend to make money out of iLife?

Also, Microsoft have arguably set a precedent for the pricing of an OS - and MS openly acknowledge that they underprice the OS in order to be competitive. It would be odd if OS X cost twice as much as Vista.
