"I'm a PC" Ad Images Made on a Mac

I don't know where you live or what you do for a living. But I am freaking tired of people crying about Apple prices. I live in Panama and most models are priced $300 bucks above USA price and Macs are sold for hundreds talking that my country has only 3.6 million people and our minimum monthly income is $320.
So if people with such a low income can buy and enjoy macs dunno what is all the crying of people that earns lots of times more. About games.. you don't need a pc to have a great gaming experience unless you are a PRO gamer that live of it. Most iMacs can provide a great experience on almost any modern pc game but bioshock or crysis.
:D

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Microsoft hired an ad company to create ads for them. That ad company apparently used macs to make these ads. Macs are known for their graphics superiority to windows computers. Windows computers are superior to macs in the work area, in gaming, and just sheer applicability to most programs all over the globe. I am bioengineering major and all the serious programs out there to construct models of bio structures are all windows only, when I asked my professor whether he knew of any mac compatible program I could use...he fanatically laughed at me. So I was forced to pirate a copy of Windows XP and install it via bootcamp. Although you should know I had to delete my genuine copy of Windows Vista Ultimate because those programs don't work smoothly with Vista either. And I just have to say, the environment at mac stores is just soo uncomfortable, very similar to cults. All the token mac people are there, I mean this with no offense as I am a 2 year mac user. This is all not to mention price!! Everything that has the name mac or apple etched onto it suddenly costs more. So come on macies, chill out! This is getting ridiculous.

Two more ironic things:

- In the 80s, Apple software has been developed using a super computer from DEC (Digital Equipment Corp)

- SUN Microsystems had IBM mainframe in their plant

Regardless, there is no CAD programs for Mac OS X that is at least currently maintained. Even if a firm decides to buy a Mac, they're going to need to load Windows on it, which equates to money in the pocket.

Sorry to contradict you but this statement is, misinformed and completely untrue.

The are a fare few high end "off the shelf" professional 3d parametric solid and surface modelling apps available for OSX, weather for Product design, Architecture, or Aviation. There are also many very high end bespoke solutions.

The only designers I know personally that use widows are using surface Modelling packages.

I have personally never dealt with a reputable engineering firm that uses "Autocad". Those I have dealt with use vastly expensive bespoke unix systems.

One area the Mac is very limited in is CNC control, but then most decent CNC equipment I have come across use dedicated hardware.

Back in the 90's IBM Ads Were Designed On Macs

I'm not surprised at all. I remember back in 1994 or so, going to a meeting at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising in NY.We were talking about banner ads ( I mean this was very early) for IBM to AE's who barely knew what we were talking about. Then we met the creatives on IBM. They were doing the print layout and storyboarding the TV on Macs ( LC's) . I thought that amazing because usually clients were very strict on brand loyalty by their agencies. For instance - BBDO did Pepsi advertising and anyone caught with a Coca Cola product on their desk was fired.

But, I guess IBM knew the only way to get a good looking ad was to have it done on a Mac. Same thing today, almost 15 years later.

You guys are right. The ad agency should have refitted their entire office with windows based PC's to fulfill this single order. How dare they use the equipment they already had. They should have replaced it with equipment that can do the same thing but with a different name on it to save face. Whats a few hundred thousand dollars? I mean, they are being trash talked on an apple fanboy forum! I bet they sure feel stupid.

I"ll second that. When you take into account all the OS-X and Unix packages out there, no one can say that PCs are superior to Macs in anything other than a handful of high end games.

Second of all, there are multiple reasons that even with the same hardware, there can be differences. The most common is drivers (did they load each laptop up with the same drivers for the video card? ...
I think the answer to that question will always be "no". Under Boot Camp, you are supposed to use the drivers Apple provides, not a set of generic drivers from the chipset manufacturer. Apple may use the same chip, but it is not necessarily hooked up or configured identically to that same chip on a different product.

As anybody who builds PCs is aware, a particular GPU may ship in dozens of different configurations - different buses, different memory types, etc. A driver optimized for one configuration will not necessarily work optimally on a different configuration.

So what is a "fair" comparison here? Using the same driver on two different systems, or using the manufacturer's recommended driver on each? I think you can make a strong argument for either opinion.

How very dare they!

Still not as good as when Microsoft had a "security" page on their website describing the security benefits of Windows XP...and they used a stock photo image of a person sitting in front of a laptop...which happened to be a PowerBook. :)

C'mon. We all know that hackers planted the code and Microsoft is keeping it quiet 'cuz they don't want anyone to know that their servers were hacked again...

sketchup isn't a CAD program in the traditional sense. You wouldn't use it for real CAD work. You'd use it to do rough sketches of a design that an engineer could then use as a base for real work in a real CAD application. Sketchup is cool, don't get me wrong. But comparing it to AutoCAD is like comparing MS Paint to Photoshop. Pretty much exactly like that.

The whole thing is just spin anyway

The fact that Pharell Williams or Eva Longoria say they are PC can be argued that they use both mac and windows because they are both "PC...Personal Computers"

In those ads, no one ever really said that they are using Windows OS Computers

I hate that the term PC is now assigned to just windows computers.

It's like google meaning "search". Google it, even though they could be using MS Live or Yahoo search engines.

You may have suspected, but you know for sure when a publication is a bunch of raving moronic Apple fanboys when they featured this non-story on their front page.

Hasta la better vista, Computerworld.

Buuuut, if they do THAT they won't find what they are looking for! :)

It's a complement when your brand name becomes synonymous with the product.

Ordering a 'coke' can mean any cola.
Blowing into a Kleenex, even if it is brand x tissue
Putting on a 'band-aid' even if it is a generic adhesive strip.
'Tivoing' a show even if you are using a Dish Network PVR.
Etc

Google won searching, so searching is Googling.

last I checked a mac is a personal computer too so technically they're not lying

but honestly who cares?
-Tyler :apple:

It's been said before, i'll reiterate it.

Microsoft can't play the victim card, which these commercials really do.

"OW! STOP HITTING ME! STOP IT! OW! STOP IT! Hey...I'm not so bad..I'm human too!...OW!"

For the last 7 years Apple has been trouncing Microsoft in quality, ad campaigns, and success rate. Microsoft has been on the passive defensive all that time. Now they're on active defensive and it's just sad.

"I've been made into a stereotype!" Well....yeah, all stereotypes are based on some form of truth. And that goes both ways.

Microsoft really needs to just stick with what they're good at. Every 5 years they release a substandard operating system. Maybe keep up their XBox r3d6ing0fDeath, and just drop trying to be "hip" and "cool". Microsoft just isn't "cool". They're a software company headed by Mr. "iPhone will be a failure" Steve "Screamy" Ballmer.

Oh...and Walls are sturdier, more secure, and more changeable than Windows. Anybody ever think of that?

ooooowwww....wooooww

good job microsoft

Hmmm...A Mac is being used at a windows convention. Did you stop to ever think that that so called "mac user" might be using Xp or Vista on bootcamp? I own a macbook and I use Windows XP more than I do OS X due to compatibility issues. Maybe he was just a developer who was giving a presentation and didn't work at microsoft? Or some apple fanboy took a picture of his own macbook or worse he used photoshop. I hope you do know that Windows is not a physical computer but actually a software, as opposed to the Mac which makes it's own software and hardware, they are self sufficent...very cult like.

:D

You live in Panama, the land where income distribution is like 90% wealth for 5% of the population, which is true for other Latin American countries. The reason why prices for computers and other electronic goods cost more in Panama is because the supply of these high-tech goods are bought almost exclusively by this 5% of the population who have 90% of the wealth. This 5% are Europeans socialites, Arab royals, American businessmen and tourists. You go to Dubai where the average gdp is 42,000 and income distribution is about equal and you'll find the macs and electronics costing hundreds of dollars cheaper. The fact that macs are on average more expensive than comparable PCs is undeniable. As for the games, I am a mac user and the graphics for games sucks! The mac is for graphics imagery and its attractive simplicity not soo much so for games and other tasks where Windows shines. Keep in mind I have not touched a Windows computer for years! I have a black macbook which cost me 1500 with a 4 gig RAM upgade costing $500 for the apple store!!!!!! One may ask why I didn't do the RAM upgarde myself...because I am rich and I am one of the few who can offord to do stupid things like that.

lucky for you there is not a direct correlation between wealth and intelligence.
