I see this Microsoft phone competing against Blackberry more than the iPhone... at least initially.

The square one looks terrible, but I do like the looks of the rectangular one. It will be interesting to see what the specs are of these Microsoft phones.

A lot of posters really need to think a little bit before they post instead of writing the first negative comment that pops into their head. You give Mac users a bad name, and come across as eye-rolling, mouth frothing fanatics.

Exactly, I'm on this site because I bought a Macbook, so I wanted to learn more about macs. And now instead of getting a ipod touch I'm considering getting a Zune, because some of these comments are so over the top, that it kind of makes a person not want to support Apple. I would understand it if maybe they worked for Apple.

If I may...

I'll tell ya the problem with the social power they're using here: it didn't take any discipline to attain it.

You know, they saw what others had done, and they took the next step. They didn't read the article for themselves, so they don't get any insight from it.

They stood on the shoulders of Apple and before they even knew what they were talking about, they targeted it, they laughed at it, and now, they want to mock it, they're mocking it!! Well...

So you're not getting an iPod Touch because of our attitude?? LOL

I guess since i don't have a 6 or 7 figure income from MS I'm not as smart as their execs ... but IF I were one and wanted to compete with the iPhone, I know what I'd do ...

Take the new Zune HD, add in a GSM 3/4G phone capability and sell direct to the public as an unlocked phone at a price point around $400. Then, I'd find a way to make a "SIM" that could work on Verizon/Sprint's network ... and I'd sell that too. Among other factors, with the Zune's subscription plan, I'd have a steady stream of revenue for a long time to come.

And, as much as I could I'd ignore the carriers completely. I'd own the customer ... from the desktop to the mobile phone.

But ... I doubt it would ever happen, unfortunately.

Cheers!!

Ken

Seriously, these pics can't be real. Has to be fake or some kind of joke in order to throw us all off the scent.

They probably are real but I doubt they represent everything that MS is doing. These look low end market to me.

You know the Zune won't work with OS X, right?

And seriously, you're buying a Zune because of what some Apple fans said in a forum? Nevermind that a lot of people in this thread actually said nice things about the "Pink" phones...

That'll work well with your MacBook ... ;)

So it probably has a Tegra processor or something with a great OS. In other words, MS' version of the Pre?

Looks more like a sequel to the Sidekick to me. Certainly these are no iPhone competitors regardles of their inards.

Probably because a lot of that stuff would be pretty near impossible.

good thing the MS execs are smarter than you and decided to not compete with the iphone. shockingly there is a huge part of the cell phone market that isn't interested in ever getting an iphone.

these are probably going to be cheapo phones and the kids will love them for texting tens of thousands of texts a month. i have a BB Curve and a 3GS and i would never buy an iphone for a child. almost every other phone is more durable, including my Curve

I simply don't understand this ludite attitude. Especially from a consumer!

I mean, how can we stand in the light of competition, and laugh at it??

What competition?

And a Luddite is opposed to technological change. There is no change when you're moving backward.

i'm a windows user and don't ever plan on buying anything apple other than an iphone and i think the Zune sucks. so much potential and MS just crippled it

I also have Windows 7. And yes, it actually worked in turning me off to Apple, too many comments to list. Of the top of my head I remember a Mac user starting a thread about how great Macs are, and one of the reason was that when he closed the lid of his mac book, it went into sleep mode. Some comments are so ignorant that it does work in turning a person off to Apple.

Example, I'm a big Kobe Bryant fan, but Michael Jordan was such a superior player. I'm always pulling for Kobe, but around 2 months ago I started watching NBA videos on youtube, and now I find myself not pulling so much for Kobe, because of the just plain ridiculous comments that his teenage fans make, about a player who they never even saw play. They are so ignorant with their Jordan comments, since they weren't even conscious when he played, but they think Kobe is the greatest basketball player ever, not considering that he's all they know, and they think the only thing that matters is the only thing they know, their era, and anything else is irrelevant.
