Obviously FAKE!!!

It does NOT make sense to put the camera peripheral in the middle knowing that the BLACK THINGGY is where the 3G/3GS cameras are!

If anything I'm betting my kidneys the camera WILL BE at the same place as 3GS

that space is too thin and that's where the sleep button is. I wish they'd make it a rubber Apple logo and put the Wi-Fi antenna behind it... the rubber would also help slightly with stability (iPods touchs with curved backs not spinning on desks while being used as calculators) but for now the Wi-Fi spot is here to stay and so is the sleep button is here to stay so the other alternative is the thicker center area

if this is having a camera would the shiny back leave reflections from the picture if its in like bright lighting or something?

I doubt it just for people who take photos of a mirror

seriously is it that hard to tap someone on the shoulder or ask your sibling to take your picture?

Video seems to prove it's real. If it does have GPS as well, expect to either see some amazing features on the iPhone next year, or expect feature parity of the iPhone and iPod touch.

This is the stolen prototype?

Same thoughts on the camera. Why anyone would need another device with a camera in it, when we almost all have camera phones now. If the person doesn't already have a camera phone, odds are they don't want to pay the extra premium on their iPod to have one included...

This story is full of BS about how the guy got the device. Apple doesn't need to leave Cupertino to see if something will get scuffed, they have a lab full of scuffers for that.

And we saw the recent security level for prototype devices when the dude was forced to commit suicide for losing one device.

That one lost device could very well be this one, and now this CSucker is gloating about having the device which he stole from the poor guy in China who then killed himself over it...

Looks pretty legitimate to me but honestly adding a sub-par camera to the iPod Touch doesn't really make it exciting.

However, a price drop and a faster processor along with more storage would make this worthy of an upgrade.

I don't have one. I'd have an iPhone but AT&T charges such ridiculous rates

I'm sure lots of people will still get it like those who really really want an iPod touch and are waiting for the 3G and those who are getting one for their birthdays after they launch. especially with the holiday season. and of course those who must keep up with the latest tech. just because a new one launches doesn't mean all the 1G and 2G owners have to upgrade

Has Apple ever made you pay more for the next generation ipod that has new features? The 3rd to 4th gen nano was a huge jump in terms of features and they kept it the same price. Plus those cameras are a dime a dozen and wouldn't cost Apple or us any significant amount extra.

I have seen parts sites in China that have cameras from phones for sale. I think the camera from the iPhone 3G cost like $3.10 and that was with their markup! All these parts are dirt cheap. Apple doesn't even use high quality components, it just makes up with exceptional user experience via SOFTWARE!

IF THAT IS THE NEW IPOD I think Apple it's losing their track. They are getting old with the gadgets, Apple always change the standards... but they are stuck in their own standard going no where.... the innovations are over?

Is it that hard to get through your head? So apps that utilize the camera can be used.

and looks like...

What a sorry looking piece of device this is.... all scratched (can't believe they still use metal back...my 1st gen touch looks just like this)... sorry azz camera... how exciting

I just sent Apple feedback on that like an hour ago, I hope they listen;).

Getting excited now...I respect what other people think, but the video sold it for me.. I'm going to guess it's real...But we shall see.

I see no reason why this would be a fake. Very well done, if so.

News headline: Jpeg compression in "slightly blockier around the changes in an otherwise relatively uniform part of the image" SHOCKER

The only thing it does have for it being a fake is that he keeps referring to it as "the phone". Sorry, the.. what?

Me, I have an iPhone already and it's not ideal as an iPod due to shocking battery life. Guessing the Touch is similar. Nano next for moi.

Apple just threw it away? What, into the dumpster on Infinity Loop? I'm skeptical about that. =P

Pictures and video make it pretty real, though. Looks all right.

and? Not every mock up/leaked photo is real my friend.

and please, we only saw the cases and now this, but....

I noticed that to when I zoomed in the picture

click the image to see

The box or blocking you see around the low quality image is an artifact of jpg compression. Jpg works on block areas and compresses them based on detal within those areas. If you notice that the areas that are noisiest are adjacent to the circle and areas outside the square are smoother showing more compression. You will notice this same effect near the other areas of detail in the image such as areas with a lot of scratches.

It looks very real to me and I will definitely upgrade when it launches... next month is it?

Haha, that is a little weird...seems like Apple would burn it or something...Its not like Steve chucked it in a public garbage can as he was going home.
