Seems like things are becoming worse and worse in the industry. Screens are getting glossier, no bezels to hold anything, stupid ratios as if smartphones are only meant to view CinemaScope movies or be handled like TV remote controls, non-replaceable batteries so that you are forced to throw the thing away after 1.5 years, loss of headphones jacks so that you put extra physical strain on the USB port without even being able to charge while you listen, or consent into spending even more battery for buying and using less capable Bluetooth headphones, bloated and restricted OS/software that is so privacy-invasive it makes you want to puke, etc.

I am sure consumers will buy them by the millions. I won't. Which will make me feel more of an outlier than I am already. I love it.

Didn't they release the Galaxy 8 just before the iPhone 8 and X?

The Galaxy S8/S8+ released April 2017 and the Note 8 released in August 2017, the iPhone 8 released in September and the iPhone X released in November 2017.

Samsung is planning to unveil its next-generation smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and S9+, at an event that's set to take place at Mobile World Congress on February 25, but ahead of that date, several images have leaked depicting the South Korean company's new flagship device.

Noted leaker Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, has shared several renders of the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ on Twitter, along with details about what to expect from the device that will compete directly with Apple's own iPhone X.

Galaxy S9
Samsung's two new smartphones will continue to use the same general design as the Galaxy S8 devices, with slim bezels and a near edge-to-edge Super AMOLED display. Unlike the iPhone X, the S9 and S9+ have black bars at the top and bottom of the device, with the top bar housing components like the camera and the microphone.

Galaxy S9+
The larger of the two devices, the Galaxy S9+, features a new vertical dual camera design at the back of the phone, similar to the iPhone X. Samsung's invite for its February 25 event suggested camera improvements will be a main focal point for the two new flagship devices.

Rumors suggest the Galaxy S9 will feature a single 12-megapixel camera with variable aperture from f/1.5 to f/2.4, while the S9+ will feature the same variable aperture 12-megapixel camera paired with a second 12-megapixel camera with a fixed aperture.

Samsung isn't ready to introduce a robust Face ID-style feature in its smartphones (but it will continue to offer less secure iris scanning and facial recognition as options), so the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will feature fingerprint sensors located at the back of the devices. Samsung has, however, repositioned the fingerprint sensor on both devices to below the camera instead of to the right of it.

Samsung plans to offer its Galaxy S9 and S9+ in Midnight Black, Lilac Purple, Titanium Gray, and Coral Blue. The Samsung Galaxy S9 will measure in at 5.8 inches like the iPhone X, while the S9+ will measure in at 6.2 inches. Android Central has additional details about Samsung's upcoming S9 and S9+ for those who are curious about what to expect to see in the devices that will directly compete with the iPhone X.

[doublepost=1517908415][/doublepost]It looks nice but if you're correct about them putting the microphone in the top bar, won't you have to hold the phone upside down to make a call?

5.8" on the smaller phone? Jesus christ... who's got hands that big?

It is actually pretty small on newest phone. I have iPhone X which has 5,8” screen and the phone is really small. I’m really looking for iPhone X plus in 2018

You think that is bad, you should see the new iPhone...it's got an uneven NOTCH at the top that really stands out!
Yes but notch on iphone X look amazing.(personally)

2018 and they still have ugly bezels at the top and bottom

I find them "bezels" quite elegant. A pity Samsungs don't run iOS, I would definitely switch in ... er ... 5 years, when my iPhone 6S is starting to be obsolete.

Its hardly embarrassing

With a case on it isn’t noticeable at all and while more ram would be nice it still crushes a lot of android devices with ram management that has 5-6 GB of ram.

With a case, but without? Apple should include at least silicone case then, to hide that hideous hump. RAM issue? I had the same problem with 6 Plus, I don't like the fact that X is reloading stuff like crazy.

Lay your phone down and it rests on one sticking out corner, on the camera face. All the excuses in the world can't make that a good design.

I’ve never liked protruding cameras and I never will. I use my phone lying on my desk a lot and the tap-tap-thunk noise seriously gets on my tits.

I know I could alleviate the problem by using a case, but I don’t buy a slimline, nice to hold phone to shove it in a case and make it bulkier and uglier.

Small problems that not everyone will share, but one that’s easy to fix.
Although I like a slimline phone, I’d certainly be happier with a couple mm’s extra thickness for a flat back. (And a bigger battery too.)

I see the notch, and think ‘what a relief Apple went that route, instead of making the device bulkier with two massive, unbalanced, hideous bezels’.
As opposed to forced battery obsolescence and a phone that won't actually allow you to answer calls ;)

I only owned iPhones until last year when I switched to the S8+. I bought it right after Apple announced the price of the iPhone X. Too me, $1000 is too much for a phone. The first weeks with the S8+ were a bit difficult, missed a few things from the IOS. But as time went by, I got used to it and today I'm really happy with the phone. It's just a bit faster than my last iPhone (6S) but it's perfectly fine. Don't feel the need for a faster phone. It's also the most beautiful phone I've ever seen, hands-down. The ecosystem thing was the easy part: I've never used iMessages (I don't live in the US) and I've never really liked iTunes nor Notes (I used an app called Phonograph that's 10 times better than iTunes and Simplenote - simple, easy, fast, free).

Will I ever buy an iPhone again? Maybe, but first I need to see an iPhone with a better wifi chip (the intel chip is a deal breaker for me - I travel a lot and always need great 3g/4g speeds to communicate with my clients) and more reasonable prices.

Also, I really don't feel the need to upgrade my phone. It has everything I need and it's a pleasure to use. So I got the feeling I'll keep this phone for another 2 or 3 years (or until it dies on me or the battery goes bad).

I want to say that I had an X for five weeks and the notch didn't bother me. *However,* it seemed, and still seems, like an odd design choice. I prefer the mini-bezels on this Samsung. Maybe it's just the visual symmetry. The only thing worse than a bezel is a half-width bezel masquerading as no bezel.

Agreed. I have an iPhone X and though I really do love it the notch is most definitely not an ideal design choice. The only time it really bothers me is when watching videos. I realize that I can adjust the video to be full screen or have the black bars on each side, but I just prefer the full screen option, unfortunately that means the notch cuts into it.
