Another specialist said, "I'm not sure why specialist said that"
this is really frustrating

Honestly I can see the June 20th thing being true. A week and a half after the announcement. And like I said earlier it could explain why apple took away the ship to store option, maybe it was a typo. We'll just see how it goes!

Do they charge your card immediately when you order online or only when it ships?

I think one of my reps said they'll put some kind of hold on the card until they ship it. Im not sure how much though, ask a rep, they will give you an answer.

got my 15" MBP Retina at the Best Buy in Marina, CA.

matched the student price and gave me a $100 BB gift card which I promptly turned into $100 in amazon.com gift cards!

Best Buy had one model in stock and it was the one I was looking for! (2.6/512/8GB RAM). This thing is a beautiful machine and runs amazing! Diablo 3 looks fantastic, as does web browsing and viewing photos. Very happy with this bad boy.

I had one of the 2.3ghz base models in my hands at Best Buy last night, but they would't let me have the student discount since I don't have my student ID yet. I'm all set up to start college this summer and even showed my UNLV home page that has ALL my student info, but they said they need the actual ID in order to give the $200 off. Anyone have a good idea how to get around it since I will have to wait until the fall to get the actual ID?

That's unacceptable, how do they expect you to have an ID when you haven't even started yet. Bring in your acceptance letter and maybe that will be enough to make them do it. You're obviously buying it for college.

They authorize (put a hold) on your card to make sure you have enough $$ to pay for it. I believe when it ships is when the money clears your account.

Ah ok. Looks like I will just wait for in store because I dont want to have to have one in my hands in store and not be able to buy it if I try to have one ordered online

I was able to get mine in a DC area Best Buy (I got their only one). I called all of the Apple Stores several times and didn't get anywhere with them. They were rude, arrogant, and most importantly had no information.

Best Buy initially only gave me $100 off with the student discount. On finding out the error, I went back the next day and they made me whole by giving me another $100 off and $150 gift card. They let me use the gift card on the purchase, so I ended up paying $1850.

The computer is amazingly fast. I got the base model and can say it meets my needs and then some. I had a 4 year old iMac and like it a lot, but it was time to upgrade. The retina display is beautiful, correction, amazingly beautiful. Some apps need to have better rendering (Reader, Microsoft Office, etc), but we will get there. This computer is absolutely amazing. :D: :apple:

Just out of curiosity, which DC area Best Buy did you go to that gave both the student discount plus $150 gift card? I tied my local BB in Germantown, MD and the manager told me that the most discount that store has ever given on an Apple product is $100. I even showed him a print out of the receipt that other people have posted as well as Apple's website showing both the discount as well as the App store gift card but he flat out ignored these "proofs" and discredited them as not genuine.

So anyone in the DC metro area know which BB is price matching as well as giving the $150 GC? Just FYI, I purchased the Mac from a Best Buy in Delaware with $200 student discount but no gift card. I just want a local BB to price match the gift card since other people have had success getting both.

Also any suggesstions on local BB stores with managers that are not complete ******s? I went to 3 BB in Delaware to look for this computer and all the managers that I spoke with were rude with very poor customer service skills.

Speaking as an ex-specialist I can safely say that not only do the specialists not know when the RMBP will be arriving, but they also have no idea how the store operates/receives shipments in the slightest.

Not only that, but the managers themselves are practically clueless. Apple employees are clerks. They will find you an item in the store, but any accurate information beyond that is extremely unlikely.

Finding one at apple is a 3 % chance because they do not have any access to the actual stock room. This means that unless they are exactly told "we now currently have RMBP to sell to customers" they will not know whether or not they actually have them.

Go to Best Buy. Being an ex-salesman there as well I know that they have full access to all of the stock and can lookup the SKU for any product and locate it at any store. Also they tend to be more helpful. Although they too will tell you some false information from time to time, but that's mostly do to laziness. :)

A lot of these specialists are sitting at home and working over their Internet connection. They technically aren't even real Apple employees. They're usually temps hired by another company that Apple subcontracts out work to.

If the people at the Apple Store have no idea, what do you think the specialist sitting in his boxers at home answering questions from his keyboard going to know? :p

Argh!

Came home from Los Angeles and went straight to the Apple store with this huge anticipation... only to be told that they were sold out at every store in the state. Went online, it said 3-4 weeks. :(
I'm getting impatient just like the rest of you! Ahh... darn instant gratification. ;)

What makes it worse is that I was actually 50-50 on really buying this. I tried for a day and I thought I got lucky. But because I didn't get one...NOW I REALLY WANT ONE!!!

I went to the Best Buy in Fair Lakes, VA, out on 66. The argument is pretty simple. Hopefully they aren't dunces.

Best Buy offers price match. The education discount is $200 off at Apple; Best Buy matches it under the same circumstances. In addition, they have been given the go ahead from corporate to beat Apple's $100 gift card offer with a $150 BB gift card offer.

Hopefully they are not complete idiots.

They have to type in your student ID, so you'd need something official looking in order to get the deal.
