Let me pose this questions to everyone who puts it in their pocket:

Which way is the screen facing when you put it in your pocket? Screen facing the body or away from the body?

I always have mine facing my body, and maybe when i put it in I am pressing the case against my leg causing the flaking.

i know this sounds crazy, but it is frustrating knowing some people don't have this issue.

I want to try the candyshell, but I don't want to buy it and not it. Do you guys know if I'm able to goto AT&T and buy one and try it on, and return it if I don't like it?

If you don't mind a case showing some wear, then you will really like the candyshell. I love it, just frustrated with the flaking on the edges.

I decided to try and put some clear fingernail polish on my old black one. I'll see what happens with that.

I have some clear coat for automobiles that i was going to try to put on one of my old one.

I will say this, big points once again for Speck customer service. They are going to send me another candyshell free of charge. This will now be my third one. Although the case has its problems (mainly just the flaking now), at least they will give you another one. :)

And it's a heck of a case as well, shame for that darn flaking.

Candyshell owners: have you given the SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel a try?

I've been using the Candyshell for a while now and I've just received a Capsule Rebel and I gotta say the protection seems just as rugged as the Candyshell except in a slightly thinner package. There's no flaking or scratching with this one, though the volume buttons are slightly harder to press.

Just giving advice if the flaking/scratching is driving you guys nuts too much

I would never consider it (and I know that's close-minded) but the Capsule Rebel looks UGLY as sin. I don't know if many people will disagree with me either. The back is just horrid looking.

No that's cool :) it definitely isn't for everyone Hahah

I too hated it at first but it was a great deal with all the stuff it includes (I HATEEEEE dust in the dock port). In person it's a lot more low-key than I thought it would be. I got the black one btw.

I can say it REALLY surprised me when I got it :). The Candyshell is much cleaner looking for sure though but the bulkiness turned me off a bit from it. Still, one of the best iPhone 4 cases out there.

I don't see a point in needing such an "Alien Vs. Predator" style backing. Why not something a little more subdued? iPhones are so commonplace now, for me I take it to work. I don't think I'd get away with taking a phone with that back into work ;) I'm kidding of course. Nobody really cares, but yeah, that back is just too odd for my liking. I'd consider it if it was just a plain flat back.

Yes you can. I've done it.

Switched this week. I like them both, but I think I'm going to stick with the Capsule Rebel. I have the Black, and I don't find the odd back to really stand out. And the case is very solid and feels great in the hand.

Well, i gave it a shot and let me preface by saying that if you have no experience with nail polish you may struggle a little, lol. I put a coat on and it didn't go on smooth (the wife pointed out that i didn't have enough polish on the brush). But the big problem i had was i put the polish on the inside of the lip (not down inside the case, but inside portion of edge) and when i put my phone in it cracked the polish. So after using polish remover i tried again and it came out better the second time. So far so good, and as a bonus you can no longer see where it was flaking. It really looks brand new with some extra shine to the edges.

I'm not going to say that this is a perfect fix, but at this point i am glad i did it.

oh thats a very interesting idea! got any pix?

Sorry, my only camera is my phone and i hate taking my phone out of the case unless necessary. In all honesty, you probably wouldn't be able to tell. the only reason i can tell is i know i did it. It has a slight gloss look if you hold it under the light, but other than that it looks normal.

If you are curious, give it a shot. You can't hurt the case with polish and polish remover. My only advice is to not put any on the inside part of the edge. When you put your phone back in it will crack the polish (i learned the hard way).

So I received my replacement Candyshell, and just used it for the weekend, and the rubber flakes again. I emailed Speck, and am not too happy with the reply. I'm just not happy because I have to spend my time and money to send them the case, and I'm without a case if I send them the replacement. I have the original, but it's in even worse condition than the replacement (since I used the original for a longer period of time) I don't think it's really low quality. I think it comes down to the material, its rubber, and the flaking will happen if it's soft enough.

Please send the replacement case, as well as a copy of the receipt for the first case to:

Speck Products
ATTN: 2nd Warranty Replacements
227 Forest Ave
Palo Alto, CA 94301
U.S.A.

We will send you another case once we receive the case from you. We need to study it to make sure that there are no low quality cases that passed through quality control.

I was at the point where I was just going to ask for a Pixelskin HD and to try and play with that and see if I'd be okay with it. I LOVE the Candyshell, but my OCD will not allow me to have a case with the flaking rubber on the front ;)

Seems the case is useless if you want to take photos, as is the case with even the Incase Snap case for the iPhone 4.

where do they sell the candyshells besides the at&t store? thats about the only place ive seen them
