Yes, I have a leather hip pouch that I put in and out. I'm sure that's why the flaking started. The rubbing against the inside of the pouch. Even though the inside feels like its lined with a velvety material.

Same here with the leather pouch. I'm starting to to see the start of dis-coloration in the sand locations.

Is the candy shell not made for pouches?

Marc

Yeah, I wouldn't touch a Ballistic or any of the Otterbox cases. I like protection, but not if I'm carrying a brick around. The Otterboxes just make the phones seem like bricks. To me the Candyshell is just right. Not too thick, and not so thin that it doesn't feel like it offers protection.

I love my OB Defender, but I agree about the Candyshell being just right as well. Just do not like the issues the Candyshells have. I would think after all of the complaints that Speck would've fixed this issue by now.

I know someone who slides it in and out of their pants pocket, same thing. It's not pouches specifically, it's just as one poster said, the rubbing. Rubber material is always going to flake/have the eraser affect when it's rubbed against something. I think the ONLY thing Speck could do, is change it to a different material altogether. I mean if you take a rubber band now, and try rubbing it, it'll start to have the eraser affect.

The second problem I see is that Speck may consider silicone, and I don't like that because of how sticky it is and that it attracts lint.

If I could talk to them, I'd tell them to try and make one from the plastic Candyshell back (but with a soft touch material so it won't scratch) and then the TPU inside of the Pixelskin HD. Some kind of mix of the two. My big beef with the Pixelskin HD is that it is still soft enough to be pulled apart at the sides. I think a PSHD inside with a soft touch plastic Candyshell back would be the best of both worlds.

Just received an "internal" email. Erik sent an email telling a person named Francis to send me the replacement.

"Francis,

Today or tomorrow. Please send 2 day FedEx Indiwhoa SPK-A0020 to:"

There's the copy of the email minus of course my address. Anyways, lets hope this goes through. I know some people got the screen protectors, I don't even care if I don't get them, just want a new case that hopefully doesn't flake.....

I really didn't like the choices of color, so went with the IndiWhoa to be "different."

I slide mine in and out of my pocket on a regular basis (no holster). There was some wear on my black candyshell and i just received my white one (warranty) today. The case looks great and i'm hoping scratches don't show as much, but even with the flaking it is still my favorite case.

I wonder what would happen if i put a clear coat of fingernail polish on the edges.

Darn I should have requested white. The way it looks it's possible that I'm going to have to request another warranty replacement soon.

Wow what are you guys doing to your phones??

I've had the black Candyshell for a month and I have extremely light wear but that's to be expected.

Are you using a holster with your Candyshell?

Nope. I just put my iPhone in and out of my pocket, it's in my pants pocket while I work and I also put it face down on the rubber edges. The back scratches up a lot obviously but since it's shiny you can't tell that much from a distance lol.

The rubber is perfectly fine on mine  are you guys rubbing it on stuff to see if it erases off or something?

That's nuts. Perhaps its the leather? What's the inside of the holster lined with?

I wear jeans everyday and khakis/business for work. Maybe you're just getting unlucky because I cant figure out why yours is literally disintigrating so quickly....

Just took the case off and took a pic with my iPhone 4...hopefully this isn't too big

After one month of use:

I've used a couple of different holsters and got a same result. Does this happen with any other color aside from the black case?

Just finishing up day 2 with my warranty replacement Moonsicle white candyshell and so far so good. No signs of wear on the rubber and the white shows zero scratches unless you hold it under direct light and get a reflection (even then it is difficult). The lack of scratches alone makes this my favorite (over the black), but if it doesn't flake too much then i will never buy any other case.

I have a different color, and it flaked, so it's not limited to just the batwing black.

I have to say, Speck customer service is top notch! I emailed them Monday about the rubber peeling on my black Candyshell. I asked about getting the Indiwhoa blue instead as I cannot find it anywhere. Today I get home and there was my FedEx package with a brand new blue Candyshell inside! Very easy process, I'm thoroughly impressed with Speck as a company.

Well, bad news unfortunately. I received my Moonsicle warranty replacement Tuesday and it's already showing some signs of flaking in the outer edges. It is really disappointing that such a great case can have such a major flaw.

I still wonder if there is something that can be put on the rubber edges to keep it from flaking (like clear nail polish).

....the people that are complaining of the 'flaking' issue - which design of case do you have - the keyhole camera cutout or the oval cutout?!

Only reason that I ask, is that I have the 'keyhole' camera cutout (which I think is the old design) and I have experienced absolutely NO flaking whatsoever (Moonsicle white colour).....

Sure - this case DOES scuff easily, however, on my white version, you really have to look closely to spot them - the white REALLY does hide most of the marks.

I have the oval cut out. The wear and flaking is coming from the gray 'rubber'ish' bezel on the case.

This will be my 2nd replacement and requested white, maybe it will be different.

I'm not worried about the scratches and scuff's on the black but that's not the issue.

Hum, they are actually going to give you another replacement? I had not even bothered to ask cause I figured I already got one due to the camera/flash cutout issue. I had just sort of given up on the case. Maybe I should email that Eric guy again.

Why wouldn't they give me another replacement?

My black one was the keyhole cutout and my white one is the oval. Both are flaking, but the white is excellent with scratches.
