I want a new macbook pro!!!

MacRumors...what a tease :p

True. It's like dangling a bone over a dog and saying "You might can get this eventually, but not right now, and I don't know when."

so its only a cd burner? omg i cant believe this! even a $300 laptop has a dvd burner now days

I thought MBs had DVD burners also. This is quite a disappointment. :( Just another thing to hope for in the next update. *sighs*

doubt it. im guessing Apple will wait till the iPhone rush cools off a bit and introduce them at the end of this month and maybe next month.

A little birdie told me in August there may be some news. At least we have moved on to something else other than the iPhone. Man that was getting old. Sorry gang I know I'll turn in my Apple card at the door.

Hopefully once the MB and MBP refresh is sorted, the mini will see a change as well.

I hope so. my wife needs a mini. What she does, she doesn't need much more. I can already use the monitor, mouse I have. Just need to buy a USB keyboard, which I can get at Wal-Mart for $20. Her HP desktop (used to be mine 3 years ago) is ready to be retired.

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 1.79 ghz
512 mb ram
200 gb hard drive
dvd+-RW
CD-ROM
Media center (has all the RCA ports)
Running XP Media Center 2005
It is a nice machine, but man it is slow as anything to work with. With it just sitting there doing nothing, it shows running low on virtual memory.

I would just stick more ram in it, but sometimes it is loud and freezes up. I just want to get her a new machine.....

I think it'll be before the end of the Back 2 School promotion because Apple knows that there are college students out there who are counting on these MBP's to come out.

As much as I want you to be right... because I'm ONE of them, I have a sinking feeling that it won't happen in time (for me, at least. I go to Ireland the sixteenth of August and need it a week before the tenth. I'm pretty much buying either way next Tuesday).

like i said before. they will have something before the back to school promotion ends.

Doubtful. They do the promo to clear out "old" inventory/models. Also expect a new iTouch this fall, since they're practically giving them away. I'd say mid-sept timeframe for new MB/MBP models. Which is good, cause I'll have saved up by then to get one :D

Well, the Santa Rosa MBP's came out last year during the B2S promotion so who knows? They could definitely come out end of July-early August.

I know, I feel the same way. Yeah the iphone is great, but I am not in the market for one (locked into Sprint, and my palm centro works fine and I can get my mobile me email on it too).

what I need:

New Mini or mini-tower

A nice sub-$1000 notebook (I know keep dreaming); not for me but a friend who needs a machine bad and does not have much money. But if one did come out, I may opt for that instead of a mini for my wife.

New iwork (something a nice as what we have now; but rivals MS office 2003 on the Windows side). I think that would make the world happy. MS office 2008 on Mac and MS office 2007 on Windows Stink (you know I had a large spreadsheet yesterday, and when I opened it - no scroll bars. i had to arrow over with the keyboard. That stunk, especially since I was in the middle of a conf call and the guy running it keep saying "you see the graph, you see that number". Like a fool, I had to say "hang on my office 2007 isn't working right" Arg Microsoft, every release from them in the past year or 2 has been aweful as compared to the prior version of the product.

I think most of us are in agreement that any update just needs to come out before school (while the itouch promo is going on)

Never going to happen. They don't need to promote to sell the new stuff; just to clear the old stuff...

Yay, my computer will be obsolete in a few weeks or less!

At least I won't have a crappy looking design. ;)

Why not? They can sell the old stock like they did last year and release the new computers in August. That way people who were not sure whether to buy the old stock will then be tempted again, since it will also be "clearance" or "refurbished" and then it would have a low price available to everyone. The new one would tempt the people who didn't buy the older model and where waiting--in a way students with the new computer would appeal to other students who will be motivated to buy.

apple has never waited more than 6months for the new upgrade, so go figure... the next one is in august/sept.

also they need to upgrade when nehalem comes out in 2009, and cant have 2 major upgrades in 3months i think..

While this is true, new iMacs were released during last year's back to school promo. Why can't they do the same with laptops this year?

...He said when pigs fly not get photoshopped wings.
Actually, i believe he said when pigs have wings, but i may not remember correctly...

The MB's DO have DVD burners, just not the cheapo base model.
I hope this comes out soon, as in i can get it before i go back to school, because i am in the market for a new computer, and dont want to get screwed by buying it, and having a new model come out a week or 2 later. Anyways, Montevina should be sweet. Wonder how much of the speed the MB is getting? I bet the MBP gets above 3.0 GHz and the MB gets like 2.8 or something like that, but that's just a guess.

Really? I thought they were released after. But I could be wrong. Still, I just want an MBA with a removable battery!!!!!

I suppose it would depend on whether Apple's B2S promo has been doing well or not up to this point. If they've been successful in clearing out their old inventory to a pretty low level, then yes, they'd release the new models in August. Also, college students these days tend to purchase more laptops, not desktops, so Apple could safely release iMacs during their B2S promo without missing out on sales (i.e. the sales they could have generated after the promo). With laptops, its a different story. So while yes, it would be nice if Apple released new laptops for back-to-school'ers, it all comes down to getting rid of older models first. After all, the longer old models sit in their inventory, the more costs they incurr. Which is while they are throwing Touches at you to get you to buy laptops now ;)

Montevina/penryn is not an update they can really afford to 'skip', especially with their pro line. TDP 25 W (drools). Also a chance to put in some ATI cards that wont' crap out in a year.
