Intel seems really razor focused on Apple’s M1 architecture when in reality AMD is getting ready to eat their lunch. More and more I am seeing these AMD chips in PC’s including in a few work laptops.

Intel has been hurt by Apple switch, as well as AMD Ryzen but they are not about to shutter their doors. So it seems weird they are plopping so much money into this campaign. Perhaps it’s a fear about ARM being the future, and trying to somehow indirectly convince PC makers and MS to forget about moving as Apple has? Does AMD have some stake in ARM - development - not Apple’s CPUs, but the tech overall? AFAIK, they’re not attacking Apple hardware in ads.

I think competition great, and consumer benefits, but these ads are cringey. Intel would do a better job of competing by focusing on its CPU development and rollouts.

They’re not wrong in that fanboy-ism will cause consumers, and especially a subset of Apple customers, to dismiss other brands out of sheer loyalty or perceived superiority of their ecosystem. But c’mon, Intel, this is a bad look for you.
I dismiss other brands because they simply don't fit into my local ecosystem, whereas my Apple products do, seamlessly. 💁‍♂️

I like this ad because it is a great reminder of what we should be able to do with such high priced devices and machines. I have a MacBook that feels severely handicapped and can only use it for browsing and coding. YouTube and twitch videos are causing my fans to go nuts while using big sur.
As a reminder the computer you are using is an intel chip …

I have to say as a Mac user since '95 my latest M1 Mac Mini was just traded back into Apple due to not enough RAM (Base M1) and constantly not waking up from sleep mode. Not very Apple like at all, not to mention Bluetooth issues. That being said I received a nice trade in price. I'm waiting on what the next Mini has to offer and for the time being have a i3 Mini sitting on my HP workstation doing Mac related things. Hopefully Apple gets it right on the next Mini.

"I like that idea because I know I would end up loving it." Wow well I'm convinced! What a compelling argument!

How can they think anyone wants more games for their kids, and more touchbars above their keyboard?

Does it point out that Apple has slowed the pace of innovation, really rationing out innovations? yes
Ask most people why they are with Apple instead of PC though and it is to avoid the crap software in PCs.
Apple good on privacy, good on software, horrible on price, weak on innovation. Biggest risk is that they make the software too complicated and screw up the reliability.
The radical innovator with a focus on simplicity left the building a long time ago.

In my opinion, the future generation of 'nerds' will not come from Apple's eco system, they will continue to come from computers that run Windows and Linux operating systems. Why? because both those operating systems still run on computer hardware where the majority of the computer hardware easily and comfortably can be changed. This in my opinion is what draws a huge majority of people of all ages into computer technology. Having a computer that allows it's owner to change everything forces them to understand the technology they are handling because if they didn't the machine would probably more than often not work. Having to understand the different types of connectors, pin headers, memory sockets, cpu sockets, pci sockets, power supply sockets. To understand how all the parts of a computer are interconnected together.

It is exactly the same principle with those that work on cars because they are fascinated by the workings of the car and want to know more. The more they want to know, the more it interests them and the more it interests them, the more they want to be involved in it. People who have worked on windows based computers behave exactly the same. It used to be the same case for owners of Apple computers because in the early days many of their internal parts could be changed but as the years wore on, Apple started to make it difficult for hardware changes to take place.

People can deride Intel for as much as they want but Intel will still be the biggest player in town because it will be non-Apple intel based computers where people will still get their computer enthusiasm bug from, in my opinion.

AMD aren't just 'getting ready' they are doing it. Anyone buying a PC or laptop now is going to get more performance, less heat, and more battery life(if applicable) by buying AMD. AMD's only held back by having to fight for their share of TSMC.

My Wife's several year old Microsoft Studio Desktop blows away the new iMac. I used to blame Jony Ive's quest to make everything thinner instead of making them better but he has been gone for a while.

Sigh... Another pathetic advertisement. It didn't work for Samsung it's not going to work for Intel.

Like Microsoft, Intel doesn't understand it's not on the simplicity and ecosystem, it's the OS that makes a huge difference.

I'm a mac fan but also have a gaming PC. The PC is expensive and has all the specs and yet crashes from a game I play about once every 8 hours of game time and I've had no luck tracking down the cause and have tried countless suggested solutions found while researching. Bluetooth devices don't always work/connect, and I had issues with the OS security updates. So ownership has been frustrating.

I reboot my iMac only after installing software. I've had maybe 2 crashes in 4 years with my current iMac. It's really an Apples to oranges compassion for me.

This didn’t sound right. Sure enough, it isn’t.
It is. Apple don’t disclose their sails numbers. Companies do this when sails are slowing down or declining. Why do you think apple increases the cost unreasonably high? The new iPad mini is evidens for this. IPhone 12/13 does not contain any technology worth double the price.

i would notice at a glance it was not an apple product just by that ugly ass design video.

I wouldn’t know. I usually just agree with them or change the subject because I don’t like to judge people based on their tech preferences.
i do agree that a lot of android people go out of their way to s—t on apple, but when it comes to inferiority though — it's not like an android automatically means that it's cheap — some cost as much or even more than iphones. but that beef is definitely there.

Rafterman:
Why does everyone around here get so butt hurt when companies run anti-Apple ads? Everyone loved the Apple vs PC ads Apple ran back in the day.
Those were actually funny though.

And, they were comparing user features - MacOS vs Windows, usability, user-interaction, etc. They were not comparing a computer (Mac + MacOS) to a single component used in a bunch PC that they did not even design or build.

What I like about Apple’s advertising is that they never compare themselves to other companies, certainly not directly. (Even in Mac vs PC I don’t think they ever said “Microsoft“.) That‘s because Apple knows they are the market leader, and doesn’t want to imply that anyone can compete with them (no one can, anyways). Intel used to be so careful to ignore AMD, for the same reason- if they truly believe they have “leadership products” why make ads like this? It’s not what a leader does. Why are they endorsing Apple as the leader in the CPU market?

NAS beat in computer storage all the time: it's shared between multiple clients. It's long lasting vs. the clients that are "disposable" is needed.

Backup: we have more than one NAS ... and off-site copies.

DIY upgradability causes the instability of systems in my experience. Simple reason: th esoftware can never be properly tested on all possible combinations of hardware there is out there. I need macOS to be rock solid stable and not be windows.
you must surely know this completely false right? How many CPUs can you have in Macs? A hand full compatible with the socket.
Ram? Apple have always had a list of supported Ram modules they test.

GPUs? Have always been bad because apple doesn’t allow third party drivers.
This is not custom motherboard, wi do cards, AMD cpus, network cards etc.

We are talking. SSD, RAM and GPU. Limited variations.
the heat of the MP7.1 creates problems in the ROOM. Not at all in the computer. the MP7,1s are great at heating the room to a sauna like experience, even in winter.
Oh well that’s an a good thing now that winter is coming

Well at least a Mac actually works when you need it to. You aren’t going to wake up one day and your computer won’t boot, or your keyboard and trackpad suddenly decides to stop working or it just overheats and keeps turning it self off.
If that happened to you on a Windows machine, then you bought a POS. I support hundreds of Windows machines and never saw multiple failures like you described. Given the amount of PC's and Macbook Pros at my institution, the repair rates for Apple are not far from the Windows machines in ratio. We have plenty of Mac's in for service, and have a steady flow of them. Just to keep it real. Most complaints about Windows here are likely from people that are on the bandwagon rather than actual owner experiences, or they keep making references to much older versions of Windows.
