It bricked my 6s, in the process of trying to restore it.....

The new iOS 10 update, released today, appears to be causing problems for some iPad and iPhone owners who are installing it over-the-air. On the MacRumors forums, we're seeing multiple reports from users who have attempted to install iOS 10 and have had their devices put into recovery mode, requiring a restore.

It does not seem to be limited to a single device, but most reports from iPad owners are coming from those who have the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which has had trouble with new software releases in the past. Multiple iPhone models also appear to be affected. From MacRumors forum member bit_bucket: Users who have their iOS 10 devices bricked by the update may need to do an iTunes restore if the update fails, which will erase all data. Some users have had their iPhones updated successfully and haven't needed to restore, but it has failed for other users. Here's the message users are receiving:In light of the installation issues some users are facing, those who are concerned about their devices being sent into recovery mode and bricked should hold off on downloading the iOS 10 update for the time being until more information can be uncovered. A backup before installing is also recommended.

they should just pull it from OTA and have it only available through iTunes till they get this problem sorted out.
Definitely. Do we know the rate of failure here? Is it most people who go OTA or is it a small but significant percentage?

I was going to do it via iTunes anyway, but now I'm leery of even that. Have we had no reports iTunes installation crapping the phone out?

For the past few days I was thinking to wait until 10.0.1 or even 10.1 to update. This morning I was thinking maybe I should take a chance and update today. Nope!

YES THERE WILL BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!!!!!
I have my iPhone 6 S Plus bricked!!!!!

Have you hooked it up to iTunes to fix the issues like every person is saying to do? If not, then you haven't even tried to fix the small problem. Hook it up to iTunes and you'll be fine. No need to get all sue crazy. Geez.

Had the problem with iPhone SE. Updated to the latest iTunes version (Mac 12.5.1.21), and the strange thing is that it's downloading iOS 10.0.1(!) now. I hope that it contains a fix for this problem :)

Phew! I thought I was heading to Brickville because it was taking FOREVER on the boot screen. Nevertheless, updated my iPhone 5 (I know)...

iPhone 6s user. Wish I read this sooner. Updated with the OTA update and the progress bar went to 100% then I was presented with the connect to iTunes screen. When I get off work I'll try and restore, hopefully it won't need to do a full restore...

What I can't understand is this is the same OTA software update that us beta testers got last week, and our updates went through fine.

How did Apple manage to screw this up over the course of a week?

Makes you wonder if it is indeed the same build, or did they change something between the GM and today's release. Because looking at my phone, which was running the GM, I'm apparently on iOS 10.0.1, which I never explicitly updated to.

Connected both my iPad Pro and 6S Plus after bricking, both downloaded 10.0.1. iPad software downloaded in 5 minutes, currently installing, iPhone still has 20 minutes to go.

kinda frustrated here. Phone is "bricked", but I cannot update iTunes to the newest version either. it will download the 268 meg update file in app store, start instilling, then just stop. So, I can't get the software I need to fix my phone. yay!

AppleInsider has spoken with Apple regarding the matter and was told that support personnel were already looking into the problem. We were told that the problem may be related to a timed-out download as a result of ISP issues in conjunction with Apple software distribution system loads.

there you go... probably not a software issue.

This is not acceptable, and very irritating to those it is happening to.

However, to me, bricking means something else.

"users who have attempted to install iOS 10 and have had their devices put into recovery mode, requiring a restore."

To me, that is a failed update.

Bricking, to me, is when the device cannot even be salvaged by restore.

Bricked my iPhone 6S. Stuck at the plug into iTunes screen. Good thing I'm at work for another five hours. At least I'm not waiting for a call from Apple about my iPhone 7 in the iPhone upgrade program... Unsat.
