I'm going to try and wait until when I get my new iPhone so there's even more excitement haha.
I hope I can resist.
I tried that with 3.0 and my switch from my iPod Touch to the iPhone 3GS.
I couldn't do it.

I wonder what the iphone 4 retail packaging will look like. Ive seen the small picture of a box for the iphone 4 on the apple site but im not too sure that it will actually look like that.
Anyone holding off on iOS4 until they get iPhone 4 so it feels even newer? I haven't decided yet.
I would be more excited if it came out for the iPad as well.
I've found 4.0 actually runs a ton better on my 3g than 3.0 did. Application opening and closing animations are smooth, there's no lag when scrolling through menus, things open quicker. Strangely enough I did have a bit of slowdown for 1 or 2 days, but it seemed to disappear. I've been running 4.0 now since the GM was released and it's made my 3g snappy enough again to make me a happy owner until the iPhone 4 comes out.
I would assume they are using Akamai to host the files so they shouldn't have any download bottlenecks.I don't understand Apple's logic in releasing it at a time where most everyone in America is already awake. In doing so they cause everyone to flood the servers all at once. If they were to release it at, say, 4am Eastern, you'd get smaller groups of people flooding the servers as they woke up and realized it was released.

the gold master is the gold master. release candidates are used for fine tuning, unless there's a show stopper bug that was somehow missed they won't change the gold master one bit (literally) as it would require another round of qa/beta testing.

Same here. Australia is just not on the right side of the globe!
What will iOS 4 be like on my 2nd gen iPod Touch? I know it won't have multi tasking, but will I still be able to lock the screen orientation? How about a home screen background picture? And what else won't work on it that's a bigger feature of iOS? I know folders should work, but is that it?
Just noticed when syncing my iPhone 3gs that the picture of the iPhone is a 3gs with the iOS 4.0. You can see by the fact the background on the main screen is custom not black.

Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking, custom wallpaper, and Bluetooth keyboard support are available only with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).
I thought about that, but its probably better to update now so that you can transfer all your apps and settings from a backup (assuming that you can restore an iPhone 3G backup to an iPhone 4).
Anyone know if this is the case?
I live on the east coast. When can it get the update? on itunes it shows the iphone with backgrounds and folders but under that where it says check for update it says everything is up to date. HELP!!
Exactly what I am doing. No sense in spoiling some of the fun by updating my 3G only 3 days before I get the iPhone 4.
