Not until there is a jailbreak so I can fix the horrible UI.
There are some nice improvements but the UI is just not one of them... Flat is not where it's at.

This is the biggest understatement EVER....not to mention animation, which slows down performance, etc.

Music works fine in iOS 7. Restore your device.

Uh, no. Music in iOS 7 is a travesty. If you have a huge collection along with iTunes Match, you now have to scroll and scroll and scroll to get to the latest album of an artist for which you have a lot of albums. It's completely ridiculous.

This worked SO much better in iOS 6, and I regret updating my 5 because of it.

inb4 "search for music". Eat me. I don't browse that way.

My wife's 16gb 5 would not allow the update until space was opened up.
So, I suspect it's pretty common on this point.

I think you misunderstood what I was replying to. I was saying I doubt that a user that is not allowed to upgrade due to the phone being company owned would be having space constraints as I doubt that user would have much freedom in installing apps and media.

Will the installer package not download even if there's more than 750 MB free (size of this file) on your iDevice, but less than 3,1 GB? (with the logic behind it: I couldn't install it at this moment anyway ...) Or will it download nevertheless, although you would have to free more space to install iOS7?

The auto download will occur if the 700-900 MB space is free and you are both connected to WiFi and have the device charging or 51% or higher battery install however should NOT occur until you choose it cause you have 2 agree to terms! The 1-3.5 GB of space is only needed temorarily for the install to process and excess space is reclaimed after full successful install

How about 8GB? On a phone that's not eligible for a carrier-subsidized upgrade for another 9 months.

When I go to the "Update" screen in settings, it says "This update cannot be installed because it requires at least 3.1GB of storage" and prompts me to *delete* things from my phone to make room for the update. Yeah, right.

Many carriers already offer or are working on early upgrade programs or alternatives plus there are many options out there to sell or trade in your old device towards getting something newer! Lastly there's eBay and Amazon

Some people use older devices, not everyone has enough disposable income to upgrade every year.

No one said ya need to upgrade every year plus we're talking FREE software here that's not really taking as much space as these whiners think! Plus as has been said 700 MB or even 3.5 GB is not much on a 16GB 32GB or 64GB device

Yeah I just dont see the need for third party apps either, changes frighten me

I don't see why.. You also don't know what you're missing! Also change is a part of life

This is the first update I wish I could downgrade back from.

My next device will be an iPhone 1.
I will use it to make calls and listen to podcasts on.
It will look nice.

Good luck with that... Can you even find the iPhone 1 anywhere anymore much less can it function?

This annual annoyance is my least favorite part of owning an Apple product.

Yet you , and others especially the hard core fans still stay not that I'm complaining I'm all for more Apple fans or iUsers especially ones using up to date products/devices/software etc. and fewer junk Android, Windows or Blackberry users

The only likely solution for this will be a iOS 6.1.5 update

Assuming they do that though I see it in the category of not very likely

Though there should be a way to delete the downloaded update, folks are better off upgrading if their devices are supported. Over the next several months, most apps will require iOS 7.

Agreed and true

How ignorant. If someone chooses not update, that's their business. Just remember what you said when you are forced to do something you don't want to do, such as when your parents forced you to eat your vegetables at dinner tonight.

Vegetables are good for you. j/k

But on topic. The people that don't like iOS7 were not forced to update.

If someone doesn't want to update their device to iOS 7 they shouldn't have to. I guess the automatic download is one of those compromises where it's convenient for most people, but produces unexpected results for people that aren't using the device as intended.

Yay, let's all jump on the Jony Ive train, full of frosted glass, flatness, and a design that I would expect from junior graphic designers.

consider this post a direct complaint to Apple over this "updategate". Doing everything to research this and prevent it.

absolutely. The guy is full of ****.

Agreed and besides the whiners claiming they've given iOS 7 a fair chance are full of crap! It's only been public a little over a week and improvements are still ongoing! Come whine after 2-4 months also whiners need to realize like it or not tech in general is always advancing!

When faced with a pile of dung and enough people warning you to steer clear, just how much of it are you prepared to ingest and for how long before you finally realise you are eating dung? Well?

iOS7 = Emperor's New Clothes.

Some of us can spot a dud a mile off; others will go on convincing themselves that it really is fantastic, much faster on their iPhone 4. Because there is no way back now.

I'm shocked iTunes Match works for you at all. I have been unable to synch playlists at all since the upgrade on my iPhone 5 or iPad 4. Working fine on my two macs though.

Ugly. Clown colors. Cheapen the whole look. Love the phone. Hate the UI.

Amen. Nice to see someone with some sense and the ability to think for themselves. UI=Yuck

Thanks for the clarification!

I do not want iOS 7 in iPhone 4 at all!

My wife's 4s got upgraded with out her permission, and went to reboot and said connect to iTunes :()
Everything was lost as she doesn't do updates or wants to, she just wants to have the phone to use, she was Not happy at all!!!

She or you must have hit install accidentally, besides this article isn't about automatic installs, it's about automatic downloads (iirc, even in iOS 7 you have to manually hit "install").

I don't think it is that simple Parasprite.

I didn't want to upgrade to iOS 7 either, altough it had been downloaded to iPhone 4, som days ago. Today, the screen was black.
At first, I thought it was discharged. I then connected it to the Mac and Apple's logo appeared and then... disappeared. I pressed the home button, launching iTunes, which said that the iPhone was in recovery mode and that it had to restored, and loose everything as in youtoys7's wife's case.

Oh... and I absolutely did not hit install.

Is it just me or Apple is forcing the iOS 7 update?
It really seems to be the case.

I came to the forums today, precisely to see if this had happened to anyone.

It did!

Anyway, bottom line is, I do not want a machine out of my control, but one that I control.

Personally, I love iOS 7 but I agree that an upgrade should be optional for those who wish to stay on iOS 6. And although it's true you're not forced to upgrade, you end up losing 3gb of space because of the automatic download of the new firmware. There should be a switch to disallow automatic downloads of firmware for those who do not want to update.

Okay, cool. You wouldn't mind giving me 20-odd percent of your salary each month then? "It's not much".

FYI, Most of the improvements apple made to the os were stolen from the jailbreak community.

That's fine. But they didn't steal enough.

I'm confused, could you explain? In iOS6, you also have to scroll to go through a long list, or Search. What's different?

So why wouldn't you want it? It performs better than iOS 6 on the same hardware. My 3 year old iPhone 4 is like a brand new phone. Performance is better all around, especially activating the camera. That used to drive me NUTS in iOS 6! Sometimes it would take 10 seconds or more for the camera to become active. Now it's nearly instant in iOS 7.

F.lux.

Which part was too difficult to understand?
The topic reads:
"iOS 6 Users Expressing Discontent Over Automatic iOS 7 Over-the-Air Downloads"

It is not about forced to update, but forced to download the update on the phone without any methods to remove the update to retrieve the space eaten up by it.
