Of course my question is now at the bottom of the previous page...

If I do not need to use the backup from iTunes prior to a fresh jailbreak...is there a way I can export/import my text messages without using the backup file?

you can drag the SMS folder from the var/mobile/Library directory

make sure the owner permission is set to mobile

this is guaranteed to work if you're staying in the same iOS version (for example, 7.1.1 to 7.1.1). However, if you're going up or down, there is no guarantee

if you're trying to go up and it doesn't work, then you will need to do a restore from backup using itunes

in all honesty, 7.1.1 to 7.1.2 shouldn't have changed any database structure so dragging it should be perfectly okay

Thanks. But reading in a another thread...people seem to do ok when they go with the: backup->the full system restore->jailbreak->Restore from backup.

Has anyone else tried this?

That should work fine, although many recommend to start fresh

As mentioned it should work fine and it's how I do it. But the SMS formats prolly the same if you did try it.

Too late!!!!

Whatever version of iOS 7 you're currently on, I recommend you clean restore and update to 7.1.1 through iTunes (no OTA). Yes, even if you are currently on 7.1.1, a clean restore is recommended. Then, if you want to, you can jailbreak using the tool above.
But what if you don't want to jailbreak yet? Even if you are still skeptical now, you still have the opportunity to jailbreak at a later date, even once the vulnerabilities have been patched in forthcoming iOS updates. Just restore and update to 7.1.1 now, to make sure to don't lose that chance.
7.1.2 is out.....

Just updated my iPhone 5 to 7.1.2 and jail broke it and it said done but there is no sign of cydia on the phone

I had that last night. It worked in the end but when it did I got a cydia error and had to restore.

Then was back to it not installing cydia.

I just kept trying until it eventually installed cydia.

Cheers just ran the software 4 times and it's appeared on 4th attempt
All working and installing tweaks

Anyone know why the boot logo on my iPhone looks like that?

I'm still on 6.1.2 (IntelliscreenX + tweaks > iOS7).

I see now that Intelliscreen 7 is almost out and there is a JB for 7.1.2.

Should I update on my iPhone 5?

Intelliscreen 7 is almost out when iOS 8 is around the corner?!? I loved intelliscreen when I had it, but they are really slow at updating. Hopefully it will work with ios8.

That and they are gonna charge AGAIN to update to either new version lol. It's why I moved to LockInfo a while back

not sure what the problem is. I restore my IPAD to new, jailbreak with Pangu, I have the cydia app, then I retore from a previous backup and then the Cydia app is gone along wiht anything else I installed from Cydia app wise. If I go to jailbreak again it says the Ipad is jailbreaked already. Without the cydia app I have a jailbroken ipad but cannot install cydia stuff.....

itunes Backup, then restore with the 7.1.2
Setup as new, then jailbreak, then restore backup
Done
That should work every time as you said you did.
