So this is what Apple has come to: form over function.

Tinkering with presentation and icons. No significant functional improvement.

Apple has ALWAYS been about form - making the difficult easy to use. Apple has never recklessly added functions, like Android has done. Everything has to be the proper form and proper presentation.

Where have you been the past 30 years?

I also thought that the multi-tasking screen would show each application live, as when you go through the multi-tasking apps and browse through you see apps like the camera that show a blank screen. It would be nice to see just a bit of shadows under the text on the homescreen as I can barely read them and especially with the dynamic backgrounds. Another note I would love to see just like a tiny (X) or something to close all apps instead of doing them all.

It can't show each app live as most of the apps don't run when in the background (which is also why 'close all apps' isn't needed).

There IS a shadow below the text on the homescreen. Don't tell wrong facts.
You don't need to close apps because they are autoclosed. Learn ios please

Well, that was NEVER any different. Just two examples:

Remember the horrible and unusable ice hockey puck mouse back in the iMac G3 days? Or Command-Click to emulate the second mouse button? Heck, you couldn't even left- AND right-click at the same time with the "Mighty Mouse". (And in case you wonder when this would ever be useful - try playing a first person shooter once in a while.)

And the sole purpose of iOS still is to lock in and control the user as much as possible. The fact that the file system is entirely locked down alone causes so many usability issues that it's almost impossible to count them. And no, using NSA iCloud doesn't help here much either.

Still too much reliance on using green and blue icons.

Really hate the green slider in settings.

iOS 7 is coming along nicely but NEEDs to be a WIP from NOW ON.. you can't just sit back and relax. EVERY build should bring some NEW feature. People like visual change not behind the scenes. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with the guy above me the green should be gone.. didn't like the green in Android and don't like it in iOS. That's just me lots of android guys love the green.

The icons. Man, the icons. They're just terrible.

So painfully bland, and some are just odd in terms of gradients and proportions. iTunes and App Store, notably. I couldn't care less if they were created using some sort of special grid layout. They really suck.

It is an OS
-> it should start applications
-> it should allow managing these applications (and it does much better than android regarding mt mechanisms)
-> it should define ui rules
-> it should use as less resources as possible
-> it should provide apis for the developer

ios7 does all that better than any other mobile os. so what please do you want more from the os besides stuff like "I WANZ TO CHANZE EVERYTHING"

The OS has to get the **** out of my way and not IN my way! And THAT is a job that ANY other operating system on the planet does better than iOS!

I don't want to be locked into Apple's services like iCloud or iTunes to get basic stuff done - like copying files FROM or TO the stupid device. I don't want "deep social network integration" unless I install applications for that purpose; and trust me, I won't ever install Facebook or Linked-In or Twitter stuff on any of my devices because I don't need or want that crap in my life. But Apple thinks otherwise - and the thing is, I don't need or want Apple to think on my behalf.

And hell, YES, should I desire to "CHANGE EVERYTHING", then I want to be able to do exactly that.

Linux and Android NEVER get in way; they let me have my cake and eat it, too. Even Windows 8, which thus far is the most restrictive platform that Microsoft has ever released, gets less in my way and is more open than any Apple product ever was and ever will be.

If you enjoy being told what you can and cannot do with device you paid a lot of money for, be my guest. Apple loves customers like you! I, on the other side, want to actually OWN the product that I've bought and not be restricted in its use in any way.

SO go to the Supermarkt and get an android if it causes you to get your knickers in a twist so much. Jeez, carry 3 bloody phones if you want, just quit the ranting!

Cry us a river. It is a phone. 500 posts here and Apple will do what they think is best. Buy something else or go to therapy.

You do realise that the original iPhone would have looked something like this without Jobs asking Ive's team to revise the whole design at the last minute:

Image

Not that I particularly care about Jobs, but far from just a salesman if you ask me.

Really. And you know this how? That photo was one of probably hundreds of prototypes. How about the purple prototype from 2005 that looks just like iPhone 4?

Anyway my point wasn't that Jobs was just a salesman. But the fact is he could sell things better than just about anyone. No one at Apple that gets up on stage these days can pitch a product like Jobs could. Cook and Schiller are no Jobs in that regard.

MOST things in life work like Apple. Apple figures out the one way which they think is easiest, and MOST people willingly follow along.

For example, go to Home Depot and buy a door. Where is the pre-cut hole for the door handle? Can you choose where you want it? No. You can buy a door without a door handle hole, but move it even 1/4 of an inch to the left or right and good luck getting a handle and lock to fit. All the locks will fit one particular location on the door.

Practically everything I buy, I'm told how to use it. Can I put the steering wheel wherever I want it on my car? No. Only certain types of tires will fit my car. Only certain sizes of drinks will fit in my cup holder.

It is NORMAL to expect to use a product the way a manufacturer designs it. MOST people understand this, and it's not being a 'follower' or a 'sheep' - it's the NORMAL way life works. And do I get my panties in a bunch over being 'controlled'? No. I don't think of it that way. I'm free to choose what I buy, what I use and what I don't buy and what I don't use. I buy an iPhone because I ENJOY the experience.

music app play all by artist

I noticed that in the music app we can play and shuffle all songs from an artist. In previous versions (I didn't test it on beta 4 so I'm not sure here) it only played within an album of an artist.

I think it's great that they fixed this because, believe it or not, this was something I find very valuable because of the the way I listen music.

EDIT: Ah, it was this way in beta 4! :)

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, or maybe I did something wrong, but on the previous beta's you could add a panorama picture to the lockscreen and it would move as you moved the phone. I changed to a different panorama today and now it doesn't move at all. I know this is something extremely minor but I didn't know if anyone else used this and noticed the change.

Linux and Android

That's all you had to say. The common person doesn't have time to fiddle with these operating systems. I was in DC yesterday carpooling, guy couldn't even get his GPS to work on his android, popped out my iOS 7 Beta 4, had directions up in 5 seconds (someone sent me an address via text, Apple maps searches emails and texts for recent addresses. Tweaking is fun and all, but in the end - somethings that does the jobs the fastest and easiest always wins in the real world.

I liked the temporary blue icons.

I could easily and quickly know what to do... didn't even need to read labels.
With new square graphics, I find myself ignoring the graphics and reading the labels.

fifth beta

I cannot wait until the 25 beta release of this mythical software, sometime in 2015. It should be perfected by then.

Your quote in your signature represents one if the cheesiest things ever heard. It nearly made me vomit when he issued that cocky defensive line.

Lol - I thought it was hilarious and laughed.

Some people are too tight about all this stuff.....I used to hate Samsung because they're ads made fun of the very customer loyalty and consumer base they were attempting (and I think have succeeded) in gaining.

Now? Ehh - Samsung's put out some funny ads, away from the stupid comparisons and mocking (which has now become Microsoft's department with those awful Surface ads) and to be quite honest, I'd like to try out a Samsung next time my Android is up for upgrade.

I find it so funny that people get upset about a guy like Schiller being "defensive" in that quote when people here get uppity at the slightest provocation (myself included) - and none of us have entire media outlets and other companies seemingly bent on our destruction and humiliation.

To be honest, it showed me those guys are human too. Which sometimes is up for debate with all the legal-speak and robotic answers they give to almost any question asked. A little emotion was a breath of fresh air and was also seemingly the only point in the last year that we got an inkling Apple was listening to critics and acknowledged them. If you haven't noticed, Apple advertises like its the only smartphone/tablet company out there.

Which I kinda like - don't worry about what your competitor is doing. Focus on what you do and do it right and to the best of your ability. In the end, if that isn't enough - the people who tear you down don't deserve what you have to offer.

The oversimplification that has been done with the icons was ridiculous. I find myself spending more time reading the text than choosing the icon.

Finally, DO NOT punish your users by removing things that have become natural to them. Going left on the home screen MUST, send you to "spotlight"/search iPhone. Why make everyone angry about something that is useful and everyone is used to?
There is no inovation in sliding from the top, it is just someone's fit out of lack of innovation. Wake up!

Actually the new search is way more efficient. If you have multiple pages you don't have to go back to the front page to get to search. just swipe in middle from anywhere you are to bring up search is a lot more efficient.

Thank you, this was a real good comment.
