You don't need to do a full restore to fix the issue. I did the OTA update and lost service/touch ID. I then downloaded the ISPW and did an option check for update. iTunes then installed 8.0.1 again without needing to restore my data.

Can i ask how you did this exactly? You downloaded the IPSW, I've got that now. then from iTunes you did hold down option/restore, and selected the IPSW you downloaded?

They need to get this stuff right. Smartphones are essentially commodities now -- the differentiation comes down to the OS. If iOS loses its rep for high quality and ease of use, that's not a good thing.

iOS has already lost it's rep for high quality and ease of use. You just haven't realized it yet.

Now the lines around the block at Apple Stores are for Genius appointments to restore iPhones :(

Wifi works still you needed wifi to install the update, you'll only need wifi to repair the install. Not a huge problem right now.

Love the fanboys... (Like me ;-) ) always saying. "Don't mug Apple. Errors happen for everyone"

Yeaaa... But slowly this is daily at Apple :)

My iPhone 6Plus is now useless... My 5S works

"Hey Apple - You make a lot of BS lately. To much money to care?"

It's the best of times, it's the worst of times...
iPhone 6/6+, 128GB, cool new features to look forward to.

AnnouncementStreamingGate, BendGate, WiFiGate, SlowIOS8Gate, and heck, if you love slow WiFi, we have NoCellGate!

This is either a bad month, or the sign of things to come. I am really hoping for the former.

Excited... Like with torches and pitchforks!!!

Seriously kids, there's a reason it's called the "bleeding edge" when you camp on rumor sites and download new patches within minutes of them going live. I'm waiting another week or so for my iOS 8 update while all you lab rats get eaten!!! If you wait just a little bit, then the App makers can get their stuff together and it goes back to being easy.

They'd better get their s*#t together. This has not been a good rollout, from the beginning of the keynote with multiple audio feeds.

There's been alot of room for improvement for specific areas of the company, defined very publicly.

Makes me wonder if it was the same team that did the Keynote Quicktime broadcast was demoted to supporting the Apple Store website for iPhone 6 Pre-Order rollout which were then demoted to doing testing....of the 8.0.1 update...

Thank goodness they have taken the 8.0.1 update down...what a flub at this point.

Maybe the only thing that's gone right in the last year

This is going horribly wrong for Apple. Some of the 'gates we've supposedly had:

1. It's-Too-Big-Gate
2. NoHealthKitGate
3. BendGate
4. UpdateGate

Is the availability of Microsoft Office products for iOS. lol. Bill Gate :)

At the end of the day, Tim made the decision to go live with Maps. That's on him.

Yes and so is this because at the end of the day the buck stops with the CEO. But Tim was not the person leading iOS 6 and maps project, Forstall was. It's not like iOS was flawless under his leadership. In many ways it's because of Jobs and Forstall that Apple is now playing catch up with iOS. Though I suppose the Jobs sycophants would argue iOS was always superior and didn't need things like extensibility and 3rd party keyboards.

I'm just foreseeing the future...

but if anything goes wrong with :apple:Pay... I'm sure people will be calling it BillGate

Why is it whenever there's a scandal they just add gate to it? What's the significance of gate? I don't get it

Downloaded and installed update on iPhone 5 and all is well. :) Downloaded update on iPad Mini Retina and iPad Mini but then have 'unable to verify update' when attempting to 'Install Now'. Apple turns to chit? :(

They pulled the update due to the problems, that's why. Just relax until Apple releases the update again.

Well at the moment it is definitely Apples own fault, that sooooo many companies make fun with Apple's products and software. They claim to be the best, but they make mistake on mistake on mistake at the moment.

See thats the thing, they never actually gloat or brag, they just make products and thats it really

So that explains why I can't get it... I would hammer Apple on this, but I'm used to their dodgy software, well iOS software..

But they aren't the only ones, Sony has pulled Playstation updates before as they were bricking consoles.. you do wonder if they really do test these things?
