Finally got my phone working again after doing the Shift + "Check for Update" combo in iTunes for Windows. I haven't used iTunes in Windows in years, but you do what you must. :)

A friend told me they updated to iOS 8.0.1 and the app store was replaced with the google play store :)

Oh no this issue is worse than we thought then, your friend has to deal with mediocre, halfbaked, bug riddled, unsecure apps until Apple figures this thing out.

Does anyone have a torrent link for iPhone7,1_8.0.1_12A402_Restore.ipsw

for iPhone 6+

Apples servers are slammed!

Well its a bit rubbish that Apple would let this happen. A bit of a big blunder. I do hope we get free iTunes store credit. If this was the networks fault I would expect some sort of compensation so I hope Apple will do the same

I don't understand why Apple will not come out and acknowledge this problem and provide their customers with direction on what to do. I realize that there are some posts in here about how Apple is advising that customers restore their phones, but why hasn't this advice been posted publicly? That said, you need to be a somewhat tech-savvy to download the restore file and update it.

A majority of affected users to do not visit tech forums like this one, hence they probably don't have a clue about why their phones are broken.

Why is Apple so broken in how they're addressing this?

This was what I was thinking. The average iPhone user isn't going to know how to restore their phone via iTunes. Apple always touts the iphone as being user friendly but giving advice like this is contradicting their motto.

Look, I class myself as a massive fan-boy. I've had every iPhone on release day, a selection of macs over the last decade and most iPads. But I have to say this is utterly ridiculous. How on earth was this released into the wild without this problem being spotted? It's embarresing and beneath apple.

Talk about blowing things out of all proportion. It's a small glitch. It unfortunately happens sometimes with software updates. It didn't brick any iPhones. Apple has a acted incredibly quickly in pulling the update to protect their customers. It's not the end of the world.

I don't blame Apple. I blame anyone who rushed out to install an update the second it's released. You have learnt a valid lesson today. If this was a major PITA for you, don't rush out to install updates in the future. Let others take that risk. Learn from your mistake.

Followed the instructions from iMore and that fixed it perfectly.

Still, unneeded stress due to Apple's incompetence...

Yeah, The response is not impressive. It has been several hours and nothing but they are investigating. Meanwhile our phones are pretty much useless.

Apple is now only the shadow of what it was.

Rather than investing massively in Developers to get robust OS8.1 & Yosemite, they do nothing with their cash.

It is the same with yosemite. With our I7 Macbook, it is slow and we often see the spinning rainbow umbrella & the program bounce all the time. It is UNACCEPTABLE have a downtime when my macbook Intel I7 launches Textedit.

Yosemite is slower to start than Mavericks. It is also slower to quit.

2 years ago, i would have never considered it but now i am enough about those Apple OS, its cloud and their problems too.

I see the day when i will switch to a Windows phone & a Windows 9 PC.

Oh, yeah, sure... Like Windows (ANY version) is so superior???

I can honestly say that from the standpoint of a tech support representative who has supported Windows 98/XP/Vista/7/8, iOS and MacOS (for 15 years), the Windows platform is the most troublesome to use. More bugs and issues than any other operating system, yet iOS gets more attention drawn to their system issues.

I've also done QA, and no matter how much you THINK you test and work out the bugs, QA isn't always 100%. It isn't until something is rolled out on a larger scale and is used in a real-world environment that some bugs present themselves.

I guess being a support technician and QA analyst, I have a higher patience level, but nothing I see so far has made me lose patience with Apple's hardware or software. I'm grateful for the time and work that has been done and will be done by Apple, and the developers, to develop these devices and programs.

Hopefully people will be patient while Apple works to fix the issue. Back up your devices before any update, folks. And just because an update comes available doesn't mean you should dive right in and download it immediately. Give it a couple days. And for those affected by the bug... Be patient if you can. Apple pulled the update so you should be able to roll back to 8.0.0 (someone posted a link in this thread). Just back up your device first. Good luck.

Actually, it did brick some phones. And it turned many other phones into not-phones. And god forbid someone gets into an emergency situation and now can't make or receive a call....

Wow. Yup Apple makes my expensive iPhone an iPod Touch. No big issue. And it is my fault since I downloaded an update Apple released. Get over yourself. Apple **** the bed.

I am going to see how fast it takes to download on my 120mbps line, I will then upload them to one of my filesites I use for ya'll

I didn't update thankfully.

Look, stop being utterly blinded. Like I say, I love apple, I've spent thousands upon thousands of pounds on their products. I've converted countless people to iOS And OS X. But to be clear, when an update stops a phone from being a phone someone has majorly messed up and it is unacceptable.

2015 there will be a pricy iPod for the wrist ;)

Agreed, what a stupid comment. Completely Apple's fault.
