iPhone 6 on AT&T successfully downloaded the update. Went to actually install maybe 30-min later and receive a "not connected to the Internet" message - despite having full wifi & 4/5 LTE.

Maybe Apple pulled it from their servers in my lag between download & install which is why I can't install? Which might somehow be a good thing?

*shrugs*

You don't need to do a full restore to fix the issue. I did the OTA update and lost service/touch ID. I then downloaded the ISPW and did an option check for update. iTunes then installed 8.0.1 again without needing to restore my data.

Hi, I have downloaded the file, but how do I actually use it? Do I need to copy it to a directory on my PC?

Now I'm getting an error message when I try to update through iTunes with the ispw. This keeps getting better and better.

i get that too and i can't even do a full restore. its like they have us hostage until they get their act together. this is insane.

As I work in in IT, Apple has a method for testing this. They probably either released early on accident (yes automation scripts might of been triggered), or it just works...eventually.

I too work in IT and we both know, that bugs always have some magical power to escape tests.

So Apple since you guys broke everyones iPhone are you guys going to give people free iPhone 6+ or what?

I had to go back to 8.0, but I've got my signal back! Whew. VERY disapointed in Apple QA since Steve left. This is a disaster for a company like Apple.

Growing pains…...8.1 will have addressed most of them.
True, but that could take months. Meanwhile people depend on their phones daily. I don't expect everything to be absolutely perfect with a new OS, but iOS 8 is worse than most. Frankly I think Apple just had too much on their plate this year between 2 entirely new iPhones, new iPads coming, new iOS, new OS X, the Apple Watch with perhaps it's own OS, all the new iCloud stuff, plus whatever else they're working on that we don't know about yet. They bit off more than they could chew.

Oh FFS Apple. Bendy iPhones, poor software, more bugs when you fix the first bugs and the dreadful battery life on my iPhone 5. What has gone wrong at Apple??? Seriously considering other manufacturers for my next phone.

I never got a message on my iPhone or iPad that an update was available. If that's the case with most people hopefully there weren't that many that install this update. And hopefully Apple provides a fix ASAP.

I wish people would quit throwing Steve's name around left and right. He wasn't some god. There were plenty of problems on his watch too.

That's just ridiculous.
I was downloading the ipsw from developer portal and I was at 90% when I read some tweets about Apple pulling the 8.0.1 version.
I'm still with 7.1.2 and I'm waiting for 8.0.2, hopefully is going to be a good release.

Apple never changed the iPhone casing for an "s" upgrade. So that's not gonna happen.

Nobody said they have to change the design. The materials, though, that's completely different. The 5S incorporated two new colors, and Liquidmetal can be colored however you wish. More importantly, I believe Liquidmetal can be colored in the mix itself instead of applied externally, which means you get less noticeable scratching on darker colors. I'm not saying it's likely for the 6S, but could be if there are more bending problems. More likely for the 7 or beyond.
