You don't need to do a full restore to fix the issue. I did the OTA update and lost service/touch ID. I then downloaded the ISPW and did an option check for update. iTunes then installed 8.0.1 again without needing to restore my data.

How do I get it to install the file? It just says your phone is up to date(8.0.1)

Whoa, weird. I was actually in the process of updating it when I saw this post. Then my phone finished the download and it "failed to verify" and stopped. I guess it got pulled AS I was updating. Phew.

It's weird that this happened because other than Skype on my computer, my iPhone is my only way of making calls, and I was thinking about a situation like this the other day when updating to iOS 8.

While it was updating, I thought to myself: what if I had to call 911 (I have an anxiety disorder)? You can call 911 with Skype I think, but I think you're not supposed to as they can't trace your call.

Maybe I'm unusual in that this is where my mind goes, but an update that renders your phone unable to make calls seems dangerous to me.

Have an iPhone 6 Plus and installed 8.0.1 30 minutes ago. Have had no touch ID and No service issues. Verizon as well. I wonder what causes it.

To note, when I got my Plus, I restored my iCloud backup from the 5S. So this 8.0.1 install was over my existing iCloud data.

I did the same as you, but both my 6 and 6+ lost cell connection and TouchID....

I'm as staunch an Apple advocate as anyone here, and while I think those who are talking about this being "another" Apple problem, I'm pretty irritated they would let something this big and bad get through.

Apple has never had any problems ignoring the idiotic masses and taking their time to make sure things work properly. I hope this isn't a new trend for them.....

Wow. Looks like I wouldn't have been affected anyways, but I'm kinda glad I just now heard about this update and effectively missed the entire thing.

I'll just be over here chillin'.

Are these for Verizon or are they not carrier specific?

Should be pretty obvious how this bug escaped notice - it only affects you if you do the OTA update. No one would have tested the OTA update until it was live.

I think this will probably affect some testing procedures at Apple in the future.

Apple doesn't seem to be as thorough as they once were about getting things right before release... Is that why their OS is now free, do I smell a conspiracy?!

New in iOS update 8.0.1:

Fixed bug where you can call your friends.
Fixed bug where unlocking phone is possible.

:D
