My wifi looks great, but just fired up my 3G and the yellowing is AWFUL. Really disappointing because my wifi had no issues whatsoever.

Mine was a big difference not just a little angle it was very yellow I am sorry it happened to you.

Take it back.

It's not always an easy replacement because there are always people in the Apple store who claim they don't see it.

Perhaps you can't tell from a photo, but you sure as hell can see it in plain sight.

It's not just a yellow tint, but it's a yellow tint on the right side of the screen whereas the left side is cooler, more white. It pops out in just about everything you look at, especially white background websites and ebooks. It's not something you have to look for, your eyes just pick up the variances immediately upon looking at the screen.

Is it really so much to ask Apple to have proper screens that have evenly distributed backlight without varying tints and backlight bleed through??

They tout these devices to have superior IPS displays, yet we're still seeing the same damn QC issues we saw with the iPhones.

Some things never change.

I'm thinking that, like many LCD screens, there's a lot of variability here. I'm restoring my 3G from my WiFi right now, and it's halfway done. So, it has the wallpaper. First time I had something exactly the same on both to compare the screen's color temperature.

So, I have the brightness maxed on both, and the WiFi looks a tad yellower than my 3G (don't know if anyone has reported that yet). I think it's totally up to the individual and what you are going to use it for how important it is to you to have what level of 'color match' or 'true color' temperature.

I'm not a photographer (beyond really amateur), and thus it doesn't bother me. But I can see where people need/want something that has better color matching. And, in runs of 100s of thousands of these, there will be a lot of variability unless you want to pay a lot more for the screen.

I had the same problem with one of the three iphones I have, but after not using the "blue" one and using the yellow one you don't notice it after time. I just bought the 3g ipad also but have not set it up yet to compare with my wifi version.

This is for the folks who's eyes have seen a better day...

Mine was easy to see putting them together the right one looked yellow in the middle. Area

I have a 32GB Wi-Fi model and just got a 32GB 3G today. Just for reference, I noticed yellow displays on several of my past iPhones, so I know exactly what you are talking about. I looked for this same problem on my Wi-Fi when I got it on launch day. I didn't really notice anything.

Today I compared my two iPads and the new 3G has a much "whiter" display than the Wi-Fi. That being said, neither appears as yellow to me as my old iPhones did.

Hmmm...

My 3G is a tad warmer than my wifi... my wifi is absolutely beautiful... where my 3G is just a bit dingy.

That said... it's certainly within tolerance. Also, my wifi has more backlight bleedthrough in the corners, which makes it all a wash to me.

I am also a photographer... and could notice the difference right away. Again though, my problems aren't that bad. In fact, the windows desktop I'm typing this message on now is TERRIBLY yellow compared to either of my iPads ;-)

Where'd you purchase yours (city/state)?

Does anyone else have this issue? I seem to have a yellowish tint on the edges of the screen around the border only.

Yes, I do. The whole screen is a dirty yellow, but the edges are really dark yellow. My wifi only iPad is a really crisp bright screen, so it just makes the new 3G look all dingy and gross. Taking it to the closest Apple store about 100 miles away :(

Some of you people are insane. Too bad we aren't talking LCD televisions, which have the same variations, if not more. Samsung, Sony, and the like, would tell you to go jump in the lake after one exchange. It is even stated on their users guide that it is 'normal' for all LCD screens to experience some variation.

Someone should show you a piss yellow iPhone 3GS and you might change your mind when you see it next to a NORMAL LCD. You know, one that isn't piss yellow.

This IS NOT some little diatribe from a small group of people on the internet. This is a BIG problem with Apple and I have seen it in phone after phone after phone with them. My 3G amazingly had no issues and I miss it because when I switched to the 3GS, I noticed right off, something was wrong. Dingy, dirty whites and the whole screen was a nicotine yellow. I exchanged it - I won't tell you how many times.

Screen after screen. All were nearly identical except each one had a different gradient. White top, yellow bottom. White left, yellow right. So on so forth.

It's a problem and Apple needs to freaking fix it. Period. Compare your phone to any other phone and you will see the difference. It's ****. Trust me.

My brothers 3GS has a pure white/blue screen. Mine has a dirty yellow screen. Yeah, excellent QC there!

I am surprised Apple let the iPad's go out with **** screens too. That one shown in the video on CNET was horrible. Absolutely disgusting. Anyone that is in photography should kill themselves if their screen was that crappy or didn't notice.

iPhone 3GS had the same problem. It ticks me off to no end. My phone on the right..

Just to be clear... has anyone replaced a 3G with a slightly yellow screen and received a better screen?

I know I said mine wasn't bothering me... but then I loaded up some of my photos from the last year or so... and as I was going through them it was striking how differently they looked.

My Wifi iPad's screen is beautiful. If it were the other way around (where the 3G had a whiter screen) I would probably keep both. But I specifically got a 64GB 3G for photography... and I don't think I can live with knowing it has the inferior screen ;-)

I'm thinking about returning mine tomorrow... I just wanted to see what the odds are of getting something better. Because, other than the slight yellow tint, everything else is good (ie no dead pixels... acceptable backlight bleedthrough around the sides... etc.).

Thanks!

So has someone with a yellow tinted 3G iPad taken it back and received a better one?

Mine is only slightly more yellow than my Wifi... mostly tolerable except that I am planning on using my 3G iPad exclusively for photography and would prefer to have the true white screen my Wifi iPad has.

That said... if the chance of receiving a better one by exchanging it is small... then I'll just stick to what I have.

Frankly... those pictures of the tinted gradient in this thread scare the holy hell out of me.

At least mine is uniform... just a bit warmer...

Warmness isn't always bad in a photographic monitor either... hmmm... maybe I should just live with it.

You need to get out more. I don't see the issue.

Speaking of getting out more... I think there other people on this site that could use that advice more than him:rolleyes:

Just because you dont see the issue doesn't mean it's not there. I don't quite see the help/advice given in your post relating to the issue the OP described. I think it would be best to resist trolling the OP when you have nothing of significance to contribute to a thread. Just my 2cents.

As for the OP, I would suggest you talk it to the apple store if you are unhappy with the screen quality. Note that Apple has been pretty good about quietly exchanging ipads with screen issues, I'm (uneducatedly) assuming due to the significance of the screen on this particular device.

When I dim my screen, the dimmer it gets the more yellow the screen looks. Is this normal? I really don't like it it makes the nice white webpages, word docs etc yellowish when the screen is dim! Ugh!!

I have taken my back to Apple and yes I have received a perfect blue white screen.
I know they are out there as my home now holds 4 ipads the last one the3G was also yellow this was my sons.

Sorry I can't live with a yellow screen so if I have to keep returning to get a white screen I will.

No it's not normal the yellowing is terrible get a white one .

A theory on why the 3G iPads have screen issues

We all know that about mid-April, there some reports of production shortages of the iPad LCD screens, and Apple was scrambling to find enough to meet the end of April ETA. Well usually Apple has the manufacterer inspect things like the LCD for "quality". What if this time they were more lenient because they were kind if desperate? The yellow tint issue is more subjective than anything, and if the user hates it, apple would replace it, once the second manufactering batch rolls in (the first batch is pretty much sold out everywhere now).

I mean, this has happened before with the Nvidia MacBook chips (wasn't it the 8600?)

You need to let your imagination work on something else! Just read the threads in this forum and you see little to nothing to back up your wild theory!
