No... At the iPhone OS 4.0 event in March (before the iPad is released), they will show off iPhone OS 4 with multitasking and show it off with the iPad using videoconferencing.

The iPad will be released shortly after in March, with a built-in camera of limited utility. The iPad gains videoconferencing abilities in June when iPhone OS 4 is final and ships.

There will only be one revision of iPad in 2010.

Sounds like a plan to me.

You're in denial. If iPhone OS 4.0 comes out it will be at WWDC 2010 in June. After the iPad is being sold with iPhone OS 3.2

Developers would need to get ahold of 4.0 before anything came out.

I question the 4.0 stuff. To go from 3.2 to 4.0 is a big step.

Then you won't believe how quickly Snow Leopard is going to be replaced.

Microsim eject. Just like your iPhone.

I don't have an iPhone silly  (I have no reason to pay $70+ a month for a phone)

Read a few posts over this one. We already figured it out. No reason for it to be on the Wi-Fi only model. 3G model has black plastic that wraps around from the back to the front.

I still don't think it is a microphone. It probably serves as a microsim eject on the 3g model and a hole on the WiFi model to cut production costs.

No offense but from a developers standpoint that's seriously flawed.

True, from a developers standpoint it's not very nice of Apple. But hey, the developers are going to be busy porting their existing apps to a large screen for a few months - so no real harm done.

Or perhaps Apple needs to be the sole-supplier of a built-in, 3g-bandwidth-sipping videoconferencing app to keep AT&T happy?

Their already machining out the entire top of the 3g model to fit the plastic bar in, I don't think adding a eject hole would be any more of an inconvenience.

A little off topic, but I noticed the iPhone 3gs 32gb no contract price is $699 and the iPad 32gb is $729 so your'e getting alot newer tech/more screen real estate for only $30 more! Something is odd

Try to keep up, Sparky:

You mean "try to pay premium Apple prices for accessories Sparky", right?

But hardly anyone buys the iPhone at the no contract price.
Also look at the iSight in your Unibody MacBook and then the screengrab. They look exactly the same.

IMO it's the best way to go so you don't have to be locked down, and you can upgrade to a newer iPhone whenever, then sell the previous gen and retain quite a bit of money made back.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS (JB3.1, unlocked): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Exactly. A year's worth of a useful device is well worth a dollar or two a day. When the new one comes out next year (and if it's a substantial upgrade) I'll either sell this one and buy the new one or simply keep - and use - both. One for my wife and one for me. The new one for me, of course. ;)

What's the problem with enjoying a first generation device??

That's exactlyl my rationale for getting on this time around. Of course, I'll be getting the 64GB, but whatever. Then sell/hand-me-down this one for the next one in a year.

It is interesting that many people make predictions about Apple's future based on it's recent history, without much consderation to the idea that Apple's recent history of marketshare increase would mean that it's current and near future behavior would have to be different. In fact, it would make the most sense to me that it would me MORE agressive in 2010 and 2011 to capitalize on it's momentum and pursue a marketshare much higher than it has built to.

Which leads me to believe that we might see some tricks ( ipad camera) and faster development (10.7 and 4g iPhone) sooner than we might expect...

well DUH the iPad is going to have a camera...it seems like such an obvious addition to me

Isight may, but not the little cameras in iphones and laptops. Cant be more than 45, $10 max.

The autofocus 3 megapixel module in the 3GS costs $9.55

The fixed focus 1.3 megapixel iSight in a MacBook will cost less than $5.

Another thing- why would releasing iOS 4.0 soon be such a burden on developers? I would imagine, it would be refined to provide more features or performance, not neccessarily new functions for app developers- especially if 3.2 has hooks for video conferencing, and handles the scaling of apps to a new resolution as it is.

Whether it ships with a camera or not, let's just back the train right up.

Where did these guys get the bezels from? Because they're not in Apple's parts database that AASPs get parts out of.

Never refer to iPhone OS as iOS...:p

For those saying that maybe the "thing" in the middle is the light sensor - just from looking at the pics of the supposed iPad frame and the cameras on current macbook(pro)s, the ambient sensor is to the left of the camera (when facing the camera) and that is the same location in the supposed frame pics where the light sensor would fit.
Could be interesting. I could definitely see it being added to only the WiFi + 3G model but at the same time could see video-conferencing being a part of the 4th gen iPhone/OS 4.0 that we will hopefully see previewed right before the iPad launches.
The only frustrating thing is that this just gives more "hope" that if Apple doesn't follow through on, will lead to mass revolt declaring the product an "epic fail"... again.
