I'm still in denial.

iPhone OS 4.0 will be shown off before iPad's release. Multitasking and Videoconferencing are in there.

I think it will ship with a camera.

I honestly believe they will show OS 4.0 at WWDC 2010.

You mean "try to pay premium Apple prices for accessories Sparky", right?

no one says you have to buy from Apple. You could always buy from 3rd party retailer which will pop up soon or by the time the iPad is officially released.

Another thing- why would releasing iOS 4.0 soon be such a burden on developers? I would imagine, it would be refined to provide more features or performance, not neccessarily new functions for app developers- especially if 3.2 has hooks for video conferencing, and handles the scaling of apps to a new resolution as it is.

Perhaps the iPhone OS 3.2 is an interim build.
Most likely to support new hardware, particularly the kernel to support the A4 CPU. The software would then detect what device it is being installed into and then apply the appropriate kernel.

The major build could then be re-tuned to feature additives, like multi-tasking.

not buying

seems like i will wait for gen2. not having webcam is not acceptable for my personal use. it would replace my netbook but i use a lot the webcam, so, not buying right now =) even though the docking is cool. also i won't be able to play starcraft 1 on it like i do in the netbook :D

Darn you Apple, just five days after the launch and now this?? come on... give us some time to earn the money so we can buy your awesome products.

OFF TOPIC: As for the 15'' iPad id like it to remain consistent with the iPad Firmware

If Apple can get face recognition working, it would be a great way to allow user switching on the iPad.

That would be very cool. It could grab faces data from iPhoto to make it even more accurate, and allow per-user settings and springboard. That would rock!

Personally i think a better solution for video conferencing would be a small camera unit that plugged into the dock port. that way it could have a swivel mount and maybe some stabilization mechinism in it. It wouldn't have to be that large or clunky and would probably provide better functionality that a built in camera i would not be surprised to see someone making something like this

Whether it ships with a camera or not, let's just back the train right up.

Where did these guys get the bezels from? Because they're not in Apple's parts database that AASPs get parts out of.

Wenge, Mission Repair is not an AASP, however, their employees are Apple Certified. As a previous employee of MR (I had to relocate for graduate school), I can tell you that there are PLENTY of other, completely legitimate, sources to get parts from. It is atypical for MR to order from these sources, but if it turns out to be legit, Mission Repair will be among the first to offer customization of the iPad ... which is completely typical of those guys.

If it turns out to be legit, I won't be surprised that MR got it first. Those guys know their stuff and are usually a step or two above other service providers ... keep an eye on their regularly updated blog, it's pretty neat!

Seriously, you'd have to be a moron to buy the 1.0 version of the iPad. But you just know there will be scores of dimwits sleeping outside the Apple stores the night before the iPad goes on sale.

They are sleeping out there now...old Dell employees I'm told.

You are right, but I also believe that some do need video chat.

Just think about it. Apples works very hard at the design and user experience.

If the Ipad had a camera ether you would tire your arms out holding out far enough from your face, or the other person would be looking up your nose it you had it on your lap.
This is one thing that needs to be understood, a built iin camera won't be as useful as one on a laptop. For that matter it wouldn't even work as well as a video chat camera on the iPhone.
The only time I see the camera working is when docked, and well thats not very apple to me.
Plus a docked iPad is a compromize and frankly I'm not convinced most would use ot like that. IPad isn't a desktop computer thus I think you will see Apple down play that usage.
I want a webcam in it, but I seriously can't see it working in a tablet. do to the fact that a laptop base sits flat a webcam works.

That is why I would have preferred that an USB port was part of iPad. Even if Apple only supported a limited number of profiles it would have permitted the addition of a chat camera. With a little for thought the camera could have mechanical attachment to the pad or the option of a short cord.

In any event I suspect that atleast part of the reason for no camera was to encourage businesses to adopt. Especially in the medical industry. I could see a good portion of Apples sales going this way.

As I said time and again, ipad rev A = iphone 2G with OS 1.0, aka epic fail, but give it time and all the missing features that matter will be added and we'll all be buying one.
Right now there aren't too many ipad apps we've seen, but in a year from now, the app store should be chock full of them ready for the next ipad.

You're in denial. If iPhone OS 4.0 comes out it will be at WWDC 2010 in June. After the iPad is being sold with iPhone OS 3.2

Developers would need to get ahold of 4.0 before anything came out.

I question the 4.0 stuff. To go from 3.2 to 4.0 is a big step.

Well since they went from 1.1.4 to 2.0 and 2.2.x or something like that to 3.0, I fail to see why it would be a big step? It will most likely be shown in March and releaased in summer along new hardware, like any iPhone OS before it.

1st generation products are for the suckers.

Need a camera? Buy our new second gen iPad.
Need a USB port? Buy our new third gen iPad.
Need...

ha ha :D
This is so apple.
They know how to get our money.

Umm.... that wouldn't get them more money just spread the demand over three years.

This camera thing is playing with my money. Is it worth it to buy now or later with camera for same price?

And playin wit my money, is like playin wit my emotions Smokey!

I found the whole camera assembly for a 3G iphone on this website http://chinaontrade.com/iphone-3g-spare-parts-c-22.html for around $15 retail. So even if you assume that Steve cant get any better deal than I can online, we are talking maybe an additional $5 to get a full video cam in the iPad. $20! I cant get a camera for $20?! I would have given them $100 for that $20 piece of equipment. Make it WiFi only for christ sake!

walks away shaking head......

Update: I found the 3GS camera for just $9! Steve you are killin me. Really.
