Well if the iPhone is any indication , you would have to wait a year for a rev2 . For only 500 bucks , why would you want to miss out on a year of having fun with it? Life is short.

Exactly. A year's worth of a useful device is well worth a dollar or two a day. When the new one comes out next year (and if it's a substantial upgrade) I'll either sell this one and buy the new one or simply keep - and use - both. One for my wife and one for me. The new one for me, of course. ;)

What's the problem with enjoying a first generation device??

Another possibility: is that the microphone? Those usually go right with the iSight camera, so it makes sense they'd stick it there regardless.

Was rewatching the SteveNote and doesn't this look like a camera hole in the exact spot this part belongs? Edit the photo lost some quality when I put it into seashore to circle that part. Here is the untouched one.
I did some contrast and color shifting of that pic and could not find a hint of anything there.

I have theorized that Apple has held back some info so as not to spill the beans on all the iPad features.

I think it's an old part the guy got through bad channels.

I was talking about my screen capture with the hole in the device. Not the Pictures posted in the article. I understand that it might be confusing.

You can't find the little hole in the picture or you cannot reveal anything more? My eyesight isn't the best and I see the hole.

Here's a screen grab from the keynote. In the keynote there is something there.

Hasn't anyone besides Agent 001, the Auto Spy noticed that an iPad 3GS was conspicuously absent from the product grid?

iPad 3GS will have the camera.

No, but I have noticed your site does nothing but reprint other sites' original works, and then tries to trick people in to clicking on your car picture galleries after posting the link to the original article buried beneath some ad, trying for ad revenue from accidental clicks.

Alter the contrast and brightness... Bingo! There be the front facing camera hole... Try it yourself with other screen caps...

Uhh... whoah! OK- now, what if they busted this out in March with another keynote talking about the new iphone, etc.?

Most users probably don't want this feature, so Apple left it out and passed the savings on to us. :)

Yeah they saved you a whopping $9.55 because the want to pass the savings on to you. Sure. OR. They can just get fools to buy another one when put the cheap camera in.

I still think Apple is going to include a camera last minute. It probably wasn't ready for the media event.

They would be REALLY dumb not to. Here's a perfect example, my parents:

Folks: "Son, we need a new computer to take back and forth from the house to the condo, and wherever we go in our travels. We also don't need a whole laptop."

Me: "You might want to consider the iPad. You can do email, internet, watch movies and listen to music from the one device. You can also cancel your internet service at both houses and only pay for one internet connection, that follows you around, nationwide."

Folks: "Wow, sounds like it has everything we need! What about videoconferencing with you and you siblings? Does it have a camera on it"

Me: "No. No camera."

Folks: "Well, that's too bad. We'll have to look at something else. Maybe a Netbook."

You get the idea. Apple really dropped the ball on this one.

If Apple surprised people with a camera and iPhone OS 4.0 there would be a LOT of angry developers. That I can guarantee you.

iPad will be released with OS 3.2, that's a given. iPhone OS 4.0 will be unveiled in March, before iPad's release. iPhone OS 4 will be released in June.

Developers would need a lot of time to go from 3.2 to 4.0.

That is NOT going to take place in a 2 week period.

OS 4.0 will not be shown until the WWDC in June.

Unlikely.
OS 2.0 was shown in March and released in June 2008.
OS 3.0 was shown in March and released in June 2009.
