2018 12.9 Apple keyboard case
Bought the iPad to attempt to replace my MacBook Pro13, so cursor keys (missing in onscreen keyboard) were the main reason to go for the keyboard case over non-keyboard.
Overall, I’m neutral about my experience with the case.
Magnets are quite strong, and the case 95% of the time is very secure. However in the recliner using it, it has popped off suddenly a couple times. All comes down to how you handle it, and I will adapt to it I’m sure.
Keyboard feel is fine. It will be a personal thing, and some folks will hate I’m sure. I’m good with it, and especially appreciate the thin-ness.
Caps lock key - several times have unknowingly brushed it, and am in caps mode. No indicator its active on keyboard or screen. That’s annoying.
Not backlit. I’m so used to my MacBook Pro having backlit keys. It’s very difficult to see the keys in living room lighting. This is by far the worst thing about it. C’mon, LED lighting couldn’t possibly add much thickness.
Using the keyboard on a desk is a good experience, in well it area. In your lap in the living room, its awkward - unlike the laptop.
The grooves for the 2 display angles hold everything in place very securely. The magnetic force is strong with this one Luke

At this point, it would be nice to have the standard folio cover but for the times you need a keyboard, and then it may be a better idea to use a Bluetooth keyboard on a desk.
If using Excel in the recliner - this is a poor setup. Web browsing in the recliner, its a marginal setup.
Good or bad, the onscreen keyboard is smart enough not to pop up when the keyboard is attached. This is great if you are wanting to use the keyboard. However for most uses, its more practical to use the onscreen keyboard. Would be nice if there was a toggle to disable it except when you want it on.
Using it folded back is comfortable enough as the non-keyboard area is close to the side you hold it when folded back, and you don’t hit the keys.
The lack of corner protection will be a trade off between depth of cover and the added protection. It gives me the impression if closed, the very slight overhang, and strong magnets preventing it slipping will provide a measure of protection. Not the kind of protection other snapon covers provide, but then they are thicker. A decision one will make based on their comfort level. However, I think for myself I will get the standard Apple folio over an aftermarket based on how thin and light they are.
The keyboard is quite stiff and doesn’t flex, which is great.
Would I recommend it - Yes. Until I find a light, thin, BACKLIT one, this is the only keyboard I see I want.
Were it backlit, I think I could live with the negatives, as they are a lot less an issue.
I’d give some thought to the standard folio and a Bluetooth keyboard for desk use.
For traveling with a keyboard, I think this is the best solution FOR NOW.
So many aftermarket cases on Amazon interfere with the Apple Pencil charging are are non-starters.
The iPad itself - faceID has become its go to feature for me. My apps that supported touchID now use faceID, and its so very convenient. The iPencil charging and magnet are another great feature. The smaller outside dimension is another big plus. When they shrink it again for a no bezel display, I’ll upgrade again. Battery life is better than my previous iPads. Otherwise - meh.... its just another iPad for me. The lack of audio out to feed audio back into a digital piano when the USB is used for MIDI out .... I think many folks who use this for music will be looking for an adapter ‘hub’ with headphone jack, and there is none available today I know of, though Ive seen an ad of one coming.
