This might be the first iPad I don't buy at launch. I've owned all the other iPads since the iPad 1 but this one just seems too big for every day use. I will need to look at it first before I decide. One of the things I like about the current iPads is that they are easy to handle and transport.

I have not purchased every iteration of iPad. In fact, I bought my wife an iPad "3" for her birthday the year it came out. She got an iPad Air through her job and passed the iPad 3 down to me (and my daughter).

BUT.... I was looking to replace the iPad 3 and was awaiting this new iPad. I'm starting to get the feeling that this is not made for me (and you, maybe). I'm not the target customer for an iPad "Pro" apparently because, like you, I don't see the benefit of it being so large. I suppose I'll have to see it in person first. The iPad 3 that was given to my wife and now that my daughter and I share seems to be adequate for now. I would love a bit more memory but at the time 32 GB seemed like it would suffice. I'll keep an eye on this like I am keeping an eye on the ATV but really, anymore, the iPhone is the only Apple product that I can't get in my hands soon enough.

Not sure if this has been asked yet so if so, my apologies. Anyone know if this will be a true pre-order this time on the Apple Store (unlike ATV4) where it will go on sale at midnight 01 on Wednesday or if this will just be a 9am ET regular business hours type of order like the ATV 4 just was ? Thanks

What would an iPad Air with A9 do for you that the current Air doesn't do? Is the current Air not fast enough?

It's not just the chip since the SoC isn't the only thing updated in an iPad revision.

Personally I'd like 3D Touch, a higher res display, an OLED display, thinner, lighter and stereo speakers, and if we are getting those things in an iPad we are now getting them a year later than we would if the Pro hadn't have elbowed it's way to the front of the queue.

You're spot on with 2016's lineup.

Think you are right about the processors. I wonder if the Air will get a smart cover to have a key board as well. Wouldn't surprise me if they went that way, just makes sense to have the cover provide some sort of input. Maybe not a complete rip like the Ipad Pro, but something cool. Apple had some cool patents.

What I'm curious about is, if the iPad indeed goes on sale in store Friday, what time would that be?

I remember with iPad 2 people spent he majority of the day lined up in front of apple at my mall until evening when they finally gave them their iPads.

I live almost 2 hours from an Apple Store but would be willing to make the trek and do some other shopping. Just not sure if I should plan to spend the day in line or walk out shortly after doors open. Curious what launched since iPad 2 have done

I thought the same, but then I thought maybe 3D Touch doesnt work well with the pencil? think about it, the pencil is pressure sensitive, so you're pushing down on the screen, can you imagine the frustration of always having 3D touch activate when all you want to do is draw a thicker line?

It would be easy enough for iOS to disable 3D touch when the Pencil is in contact with the screen. However, I think the reason for no 3D touch is just that it hasn't been engineered for surfaces that large yet and they didn't want the added bulk. I wouldn't be surprised to "not" see it on the iPad Pro 2, either. Maybe the third gen when there is significant weight saved on the other parts and then they can "fatten it up" again with 3D touch, if you know what I mean.

32 GB for professionals LOL, might as well put a 5400 rpm into it to complete the joke

I don't see it that way- It could still be a secondary device for a "Pro". In that case, 32 GB isn't bad- you might be doing your drawing and painting on the iPad and bringing the results back to your iMac for example.

Agree. They should make all products available to you Americans first. Because it is an American company right? Oh, but wait. You are not the largest market and only a fraction of the employees live in the US.

MURICA!!!

Have your snotty attitude all you want, but face it, spreading the launch over so many countries continues to cause delays in devices being shipped.

I wonder if the iPad pro will be able to actually play a 1080p or even a 720p mkv file as well as my three and a half year old android tablet.

First, I'll have to know when preorders start. Could get to me on the day of release perhaps Friday or during the weekend. It would be awesome if Thursday its available in stores. But that would be bad PR on Apple part due to just the day before they opened it for preorder.

Are you planning on preordering or going to the store?
I think all of their launches have been really poorly executed lately. I'm planning on doing an in-store purchase. Partly so I can avoid sales tax by traveling a little north up to New Hampshire, and partly so I can get Discover's 10% cash back for in-store Apple Pay purchases.

VLC has been on iOS for years.

The iPad Pro doesn't have an OLED display. And the iPad Air 2 needs to be thinner and lighter? Really?

Maybe this has been discussed to death, but I'm still wondering why Apple didn't make wifi+cell available in the 32GB model?

Only if you know that there is a shortage of these devices and you don't know that. I haven't heard anything about Apple TV shortages, and that one should be quite a bit more popular than the iPad Pro.

I wonder if a 0 year old Android tablet will ever be able to scroll through a PDF as well as an iPad 2... Will they *ever* get simple text resizing and scrolling right?

PDF scrolling works fine just like text resizing, and idea about 1080p or 720p mkv playback?

VLC has been on iOS for years.
Playback is not flawless on an iPad Air 2 like it is on my Asus Transformer.

Yup - the thinner and lighter the better. The iPad is still heavy to hold for long periods of time, it still needs to shed weight.

And read my comment again. I know the iPad Pro doesn't have an OLED display, I said any features we would be getting in the regular iPad range are now pushed back a year because of the Pro.

I do agree partially that all there launches has been poorly with the exception of the iPhone this year, but I'm planning on going outside of town this weekend... But there's an  Store where I'm heading yet I'm doubtful if they even get any models in, compared to the store in my town it's not really busy. I wonder by Wednesday is there anyway of contacting the  Store to find out if there will be any models available...
