Is it really that hard to throw in a combo EVDO HSDPA radio? Many of the smartphones on Verizon have those, and IMO are the best compromise. I would gladly take the VZW network over ATT (and do, with penalty of not being able to have an iPhone), but to those who go overseas often, EVDO just isn't usable. Therefore I think these combo phones are great. AND, Apple would only have to make one model and disable the EVDO chipset in countries without the proper infrastructure.

I'd say your mistaking "better" for "bigger". Better is more a personal call(speed might be more important to some)

AT&T's 3G speeds don't matter if you're in the majority of the nation which AT&T doesn't cover. Verizon has it.

I do hope that Apple will eventually offer Verizon capable versions of their devices. I'd really like to see a combo device that could work on all U.S. networks.

iPad has a "modem port". One day after the AT&T exclusivity expires the Verizon modem will be a BTO option.

The AT&T modem is $130. I wonder how much a Verizon modem will cost? $195? $260? I vote for $195 and a plan that is $5-10 per month more than AT&T.

Wait, I thought people hated AT&T and lower prices and vastly wider basic access, and massive wireless build-out and ability to take MASSIVE uptake and usage hits everywhere except NYC and the San Fransisco treat.

Hmmmm.

Give me Pay as you go refill model with months to use it up or I'll take a WiFi only but no way I give AT&T another $15 or $30 a month.

You can pay for 1 month at a time a cancel between months.

That is pretty much what you wanted. No Credit checks, no contract, no obligation other than to pay ATT for a month. Which is reasonable to me. Sure a day pass would be nice, but that gets tricky with billing and mobile devices moving from city to city.

Two Verizon iPad Thoughts

First, I understand that the CDMA network is Verizon specific and only in the US. My question is how does Verizon offer service in over 40 countries?

Second, perhaps I am dreaming, but what if Verizon came out with an Enterprise edition iPad with the web cam for video conferencing, VoIP connectivity like a Cisco softphone that could justify a higher price point?

Thanks for looking--waiting to get shot down!

Don't worry Verizionians, you will be able to use your Android AcmePad in 12-15 months.

I've used 61 MB of data so far this month on my iPhone and am on pace for about 100-110. I can't see my data access going up on an iPad, probably down if anything because I would not be using it outside of the house much - I do have an iPhone and won't carry the iPad everywhere with me. But when I do go to someone's house who doesn't have WiFi or my wife wants to surf the web a little (which does not use that much data) and check email in the car while I drive, then I would like to have 3G all the time, because most likely I would use a bit of it every month, just not enough to justify $15 a month. If my 3G usage on an iPad is 250MB every 4 months or even longer, 6 or 8, then that's not worth $60, 90, or $120.

Um, yeah. I think it'll be better off on the Sprint network. Where the 3G speeds are a little fasters then Verizon. (Tested them in 4 different locations.) And data plans are much easier for those in these economic situations.

It would be fantastic if Apple also offered a Verizon version of the iPad. There are probably a lot of folks who would purchase the iPad if it were offered on Verizon. Now if the iPhone would just be offered on both AT&T and Verizon.

Ditto.

We need a law in the US denying exclusivity of one carrier over others with phones and whatnot. People should be allowed to choose.

agreed

however you would still also need a law forcing companies to make all devices so they work on GSM AND CDMA if you want the ipad on Verizon.

Not. Gonna. Happen.

Keep dreaming. There will NEVER be a CDMA version of the iPhone. NEVER. Verizon may have a chance at Apple's mobile products some day in the future when LTE is widespread, but until that happens, Verizon gets nothing from Apple. I know this is a bitter pill for Verizon diehards to swallow, but it's simply the truth. Apple has a tight relationship with AT&T and is with them for the long term on an exclusive basis (in the US).

kind of off-topic but is the iphone coming to verizon?

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: Rumors about AT&T losing it's iPhone exclusivity have been circulating for a couple of years now and still, if you want an iPhone, you have to sign up with AT&T. Since Apple has repeatedly said that they have no interest in building a phone that will operate on the soon-to-be-obsolete CDMA networks and it will be at least two more years before Verizon can roll out a next generation LTE network and the iPhone won't work on T-Mobile's 3g network, AT&T will retain it's U.S. exclusivity by default.

These rumors could very well be FUD circulated by Verizon in an attempt to cause people considering switching to AT&T for an iPhone to wait just a little bit longer.

I wish everyone who wanted the iPhone and iPad would just hold their breath....

A majority of the people I've talked to only want the WiFi version of the iPad. It's the new computer for the Living Room.

Wouldn't you be pissed

Wouldn't you be pissed if in 90 days you bought the iPad with 3G to find out in 90 more days the iPad may come with Verizon? A PR disaster for Apple. I just don't see anything coming to Verizon in the near to mid-term unless it is announced before the release of the 3G version.
