Is that confirmed? Apple's website says "Available on iPad Air (5th generation), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation), and iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation)."
Yeah, in the promo they said "coming to iPadOS", and even the lowliest mini can do split-screen already, which is 2 apps at once.

So you agree its treated like an afterthought device. Glad we are on the same page.
You bought a Mini version of the previous Air. You didn't buy a Mini version of the M1 iPadAir.

I thought people understood there are tradeoffs when you get the Mini which has always been more of a consumption device.

The 2020 iPad Pro is technically just the previous gen, it’s not fair that it doesn’t get this feature. It’s a $1000 device!
So, because the 2020 iPad Pro is really just the 2018 iPad Pro, that is an argument that it should get the features of the very latest iPads? How does that work?

This is a very 'Apple' move and shouldn't surprise anyone (but is very disappointing). I understood when certain iPhones/iPads didn't get cool features because Apple cheaped-out and only put 1GB of RAM in them...but you're telling me that the mighty A14 Bionic chip with 64‑bit architecture and Neural Engine can't handle this feature?

Shame on you Tim Apple.

If only we could get a fully functional desktop version internet browser with fully functional extensions. Come on Google!!!

I am a bit annoyed that the new Mini didn’t get this feature. Its A15 is technically newer and you would think that a feature like this that is not just in development for a few weeks would factor in current devices ahead of release. If it’s to do with RAM, then the Mini should have gotten enough of it in the first place to make a feature work that appears within the lifetime of the iPad in question. And the Mini isn’t even a budget device...

Guess I won’t be buying new Apple stuff for a while. Glad I snagged an MBA M1 1TB 16GB off of eBay for 1000 with 9 months of warranty. Would have bought the new M2 but don’t feel like it now.

I thought consumption device meant not premium price. It's the only option in the smaller form factor and it went up in price from previous models.

It's okay that so many drink the Apple coolaid. They keep rasing prices even on "consumption" devices and they keep getting crippled with the caveat spend more for things you don't need (bigger screen, bigger processor) to get basic features gated by nothing more than design choices.

M2 Air could easily run two QHD screens. If it can run one 6K screen it could run two small QHD screens but no you need a bigger laptop with more processing power that you won't use. You can't multitask on a mini because Apple says so and throws bargain bin parts into it but continues to raise the price for less.

It's the newest mini and its less than a year old. Apple knew this was coming but since they gave it full screen and Touch ID they made everyone think they finally cared about the device. I fell for it. Won't fall for it again.

Hopefully sooner than later, we'll be able to sideload apps. Can't wait for VMware to release Fusion Player for iPad and put macOS in it. I'll be happy to just have an iPad then.

In the meantime, no pro(ductive) features/apps are to be expected. Guess Apple wants us to buy both an iPad for portability and touch interface and a computer for the rest of us who needs more.

Virtual memory has been around for sixty years, and 310 MB/s is plenty for virtual memory. Again, Apple just arbitrarily chooses not to let other iPads use it.
No, it's not enough unless you liked waiting for your computer 20 years ago when everything being read and written to swap felt like it was loading over a 300 baud modem.

I am lucky in that I have the iPad 12.9 with the M1, and have been looking forward to this feature that my son's Samsung tablet already has. But I too am out with Apple for a while. It looks like they will have the notch for the next iterations of laptop. They refuse to listen to their customer base, and we continue to buy. Until we say "enough", Apple will do what Apple does. Ask for better multitasking, or getting rid of the notch and they laugh at us, but they can spend time on creating a pregnant guy emoji.

But is it confirmed that the 64GB iPad Air does NOT support Stage Manager? Granted, there is much less storage (and Stage Manager can allocate up to 16GB of virtual memory), but Apple’s web site doesn’t say that.
