I would rather have 2 year cycle with more substantial upgrades then this. X vs XS = literally no difference.
Lets see what 11 will give us
Just upgrade every other year.
[doublepost=1567205625][/doublepost]Without drastic lowlight camera improvement, I'm probably out this year. iPhone camera is horrible in low light.

I hope you are joking here, right?
Of course the update has to be big enough otherwise you are throwing money out the window.
But then again, some people don't care about value so yeah, I'm not surprised.
Regardless, I would rather Apple updates when an update is worth it than these nonsensical mini incremental tiny steps.
But we are different. I'm still on iPhone 6 because I get the value I need and this year I feel the need to actually update. Only time will tell if I need to or not. Otherwise I'll wait till next year if the 6 still holds up for another year :)
You totally missed the point. The point is that the updates to the line don’t have to be aimed at you, on your personal upgrade schedule.

You’ve just proved @EugW ‘s point for him. If Apple goes to a once every two year strategy, then what year are you going to update? This year or two years from now? And what happens when you want to upgrade next year? Do you buy “last” years model or wait until the 2021 is introduced? The iPhone is a mature product and innovation will come, but in more incremental and interative steps. This is not new for Apple, they’ve been doing this for their entire existence. They redefine a category, build incredible products in that category and then iterate in those as lightning in a bottle is not a simply something that happens all the time. We can count the number of “true” inventions on two hands.

  1. Fire
  2. Paper
  3. Wheel
  4. Printing press
  5. Steam/Combustion engine
  6. Flight
  7. Electricity
  8. Telephone
  9. Transistor
  10. Computer/Difference Engine
  11. *Bonus invention* Everyone’s favorite: Splitting the atom!
Apple offering incremental iterations is scorned in these forums and I find it laughable, as though any of the above innovations came one right after the other...Apple didn’t invent the computer, they didn’t invent the MP3 player, they didn’t invent the smartphone, they didn’t invent the tablet and they didn’t invent the watch, but they didn’t innovate in each of those categories. Now they are iterating...whether they innovate another invention is anyone’s guess.

No 5g? No sale. I will keep my iPhone 2 another year.

Apple yesterday invited the media to a special event on Tuesday, September 10 at the Steve Jobs Theater, where it is widely expected to unveil three new iPhones alongside an Apple Watch refresh and other announcements.

A tipster who claims to work at a major carrier has since provided MacRumors with internal communication that suggests the rumored iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro models will be available to pre-order Friday, September 13 ahead of deliveries to customers and in-store availability starting Friday, September 20.

MacRumors has received similar tips echoing these dates in recent weeks, so there is a good chance they are accurate.

iPhone pre-orders have begun two to three days after Apple's event for years now, followed by availability a week later, so these dates are hardly a surprise but good to know nevertheless. Unlike the iPhone X in November 2017 and the iPhone XR in October 2018, however, all three 2019 iPhones are expected to launch simultaneously.

The tipster requested anonymity and asked us not to share the screenshots of the internal communication.

We’ve reached peak smart phone for all manufacturers. The only reason to upgrade is depleted consumables.

As someone who still has an iPhone 6 (which I bought brand new), I not only agree with you, but thought that several years ago. Zero desire to upgrade, and will only do so when this phone dies. It's responsive, has a great retina screen, great camera, plenty of storage, brand new battery replaced by their free battery-gate replacement scheme, and.... has a headphone jack ha ha ha ha ha (and tbh, thus why my next phone will be Android).

It’s just that a 5G version is coming out next year, seriously, only iPhone 6s and earlier should be really considering this upgrade. But, if you have the money I guess.

Nah, my iPhone 6 is perfectly fine... and has a headphone jack. So in summary, there is no new current iPhone that isn't a downgrade for me.

People are not going to continue to upgrades with these costs. Several years ago it wasn’t as bad but now with these more than likely over the 1200 mark for the cheapest phone people will wait longer

The iPhone 11 XR replacement is going to start at over $1200 USD? You really believe that? What exactly are you people smoking?

If there are any headphone jacks left to be found on an Android phone in the next few years. They’re disappearing at a rapid clip in the flagship phones.

Will the iPhone 11 have wireless charging (Qi) capability at all since that wireless charging mat was cancelled by Apple?

Sure, why would they take it away after finally putting it in the iPhone 8/8 Plus and X generation. It’s a feature users wanted for years and now they have it. Apple isn’t going to shoot themselves in the foot over that.

I find the SoCs of iDevices of that era slow, but tolerable for light usage. However, I find the 1 GB RAM extremely limiting, with constant Safari tab reloads. I bought the iPhone 5S back in 2013, and within about 1.5 years, I wanted to get rid of it. I liked the size, but the tab reloads were incredibly infuriating. I finally got the 3 GB iPhone 7 Plus in 2016 which was an ENORMOUS improvement.

For the first time ever, we're a week or so out.. and I don't even care or think about the new iPhone.

iPhone. Pish! Who thinks about the iPhone anymore? What’s an iPhone?

So, when’s it coming out? I mean, not that I care of course. My cat likes the Apple stickers is all. Can’t disappoint Jony iWhiskers, can we?

Sorry. I forgot about the XR. I guess the 11x and 11XS max? Who knows what they are called but I know for sure the prices won’t Be lower and won’t stay the same. Can only go up from here

I've had every new iPhone every year since the iPhone 3G existed. This is the first time I don't feel the need to upgrade. My Xs is almost perfect. Waiting for the next big iPhone change. :)
I’m in the same boat and same upgrade cycle. On a XS Max and I don’t see anything that makes me think it’s worth a $1K upgrade. We’ll see. Actually, now that I think of it, I probably would have stuck to the OR X, but for the XS Max giant screen size.

I think the new phones will be pretty decent. A lot of people are still on 7’s and 8’s. I have an X, and I really feel like Tim Cook told the truth when he stated that the 10 was a glimpse at the future of the iPhone. Spitting image of these phones, and the capabilities match.
